Common Questions and Answers about Heart rate workout zones

Avatar n tn When I workout at the gym my heart rate can go over 160. The day after I can be fatigued and have a headache. Is this due the high heart rate? If so why? I am 67 and am in good shape.
Avatar n tn What do you mean "in the 100s"? Is that between 100 and 110, or is that 200 or more? As for "more info", I'm not able from memory to connect your current post with a past one you must be referring to.
Avatar n tn The next work out was very light cardio and strenght training. My heart rate went up to 190 and stayed weel above my target heart rate the entire workout. Even when I was on the floor it stayed elevated! THe ekg and heart monitor showed nothing out of the ordinary. I really like to work out but it makes me feel terrible while I am trying to do it. What could be the problem? Any suggestions?
Avatar m tn I take a medication to lower my heart rate. However, it would be preferred to lower heart rate through exercise, as side effects of mediation I do not care for. Also, continual stress may raise heart rate (Type A personality). May learn some relaxation techniques. Even though I do take medication for heart rate, I am able to exercise in the heart zones, and have seen improvement in my blood pressure. Some improvement in HR. Acutally, lately, sometimes my BP is low now.
Avatar f tn I am a 50 yr old female, obese, high blood pressure, otherwise generally healthy. For most of my life I have had high pulse rate, resting or not. I have not always been overweight but have had high blood pressure since my early 20's. I was in emerg in my 20's with tachycardia (125+ bpm) while stressed. My resting pulse rate is around 80 and over. It's not hard to find my pulse at 118 while shopping.
Avatar n tn I purchased a heart rate monitor to keep track of my target heart rate and have quickly noticed my heart rate is quite fast. My resting heart rate is 84 bpm. This was taken this morning when I woke up and was still lying in bed. A few days ago when I was working out I checked my heart rate and it was pretty steady at about 155 bpm. At one point when I increased the speed and incline of the treadmill, it peaked at about 180 bpm.
Avatar m tn I could write pages about this, but I'll just answer the question simple. The answer is YES! it's possible and very likely. You can forget the "normal values" of 60-100 beats pr minute. They are just the definition on what is sinus rhythm, or if below; sinus bradycardia, and above, sinus tachycardia. When you exercise, it's "normal" to have a heart rate above 100, and if you rest or sleep, it's normal to have a heart rate below 60.
Avatar m tn The question I have is I am taking Bystolic Imdur ER and Lisiniprol which I know the Bystolic keeps the heart rate way down...at what rate should I use for heart rate for training .. My max would normally 158 but I am not sure what changes on meds.......
Avatar m tn Sally Edwards has a good book on this. Basically, she divides your heart training rate into 5 zones and most aerobic benefits are found in zone 3, 70-80% of your target heart rate. 80-90% should be used if you are in good shape. This does seem to be helping me with my exercise and I have seen some improvement in heart rate and blood pressures using this system. Get yourself a heart rate monitor and use for training (I use a Polar because it does work in the pool).
Avatar f tn The Karvonen Formula is a mathematical formula that helps you determine your target heart rate zone. The formula involves using your maximum heart rate minus your age to come up with a target heart rate range (which is a percentage of your MHR). Staying within this range will help you work most effectively during your cardio workouts. This is an example of the Karvonen formula for a 23 year old person with a resting heart rate of 65 beats per minute 206.9 - (0.
Avatar f tn I got weighed today and I'm just six weeks, I don't want to gain much weight except what's needed for the baby!
Avatar m tn Hello, I am getting back to exercise after a 5-month break due to suspected viral myocarditis. My heart rate one hour after termination of exercise is around 12 to 15 beats above resting rate. Is this ok?
Avatar m tn My question was regarding heart rate. I am a 39 year old man. I am 5' 7". I weigh 190 lbs. I have been back in the gym for almost two months now I do anywhere from twenty minutes to an hour of cardio every time I go in including weight training. I have been going 4- 5 days a week. Prior to going back to the gym I was living a very unhealthy lifestyle. Eating very unhealthy foods and drinking to much alcohol. My question is when I get home form working out.
Avatar n tn BUT since I am taking the Atenolol it keeps me from beating fast. So the heart resting rate and exercise rate is really a artificial heart rate and not my real heart rate without medication. The best I have been able to get is about 98-100 bpm. But is that a true reading or am I really over exerting my heart at a much higher rate. And if so, what should my exercise target rate be taking the medication.
Avatar m tn Many of us can have heart rate zones where premature beats (in young people usually PACs - extra beats from the upper heart chambers) occur. They can have many causes, and adrenaline excess is the most common. If we start to worry about the heart rhythm during exercise, it can get a lot worse. From what I've heard (and unfortunately experienced myself from time to time) it usually happens in the beginning of exercise, or in the heart rate zones 130-160 bpm.
Avatar f tn aspx  Figure your maximum heart rate by subtracting your age from 220 - 22 = 198 I suggest buying a heart rate monitor that straps around your chest and the other part goes on your wrist like a watch. You want to get your heart rate 65% to 85% of your maximum rate! That would be 128 - 168. It's important to first do your strength training first and then the cardio. last! The cardio will only take 20 minutes. Check the link that I posted above. Get the OK from your doctor first!
Avatar n tn I got sick about one year ago and was bedwritten for 2 1/2 weeks, heart rate went high and I have been on medication ever since to lower heart rate. Try not to go on medication to lower heart rate, as it will change your life. Not always in a good way. I'm on Atenolol, a beta blocker, and believe me I would much rather to have lowered my heart rate by exercising. However, no one ever told me this. Check out Sally Edward's book, Heart Zones Training, to give more info on this.
Avatar n tn I am not aware of any causal relationship between a HR in the 48-58 range and being tired, rest HR assumed. Some who normally have a resting HR of 70, say, might feel dizzy when standing with a rate in the upper 40s, and it could be a sign of trouble. If you haven't had a change in, or new medications, then it isn't caused, I think, by medications. What had your resting HR been prior to the last few months?

Avatar f tn I have used Jillian Michaels no more trouble zones to achieve that in less than one month, it is a fun workout, I do not consider it too intense, cos I've had no injuries but I feel the burn and I have the result to show for it.
Avatar m tn Your heart rate is fine while working out. Your max predicted heart rate is calculated as 220 - your age which is 204 for you so no worries. As far as a heart attack from a blood clot, it is very rare and even more so at your age, don't worry about things like heart attacks, enjoy life.
Avatar f tn As long as you were a runner petfore pregnancy and not just wanting to pick it up know, running is great! I am now 29+6 and have had to cut my exersise drastically, but my Dr still encourages exersise all the way up till delivery.
Avatar f tn Hi. I've had my heart rate go to 180 due to a panic attack while at a gym. However, then a year later I was in the ER getting my heart converted back into normal rhythm. I have SVT, short for supra ventricular tachycardia. SVT typically cannot be diagnosed unless you wear a heart holter and have an episode while wearing it. But, it could also very well be anxiety as well. Just keep your doctor informed. Good luck!
Avatar n tn 30 to a 7:00 pace. In watching my heart rate monitor on a treadmil I have noticed that initially my heart rate increases for the first few miles, then drops off. It seems to consistantly do that when I wear the monitor. Below are the BBM from running yesterday. I'm wondering why this happens and if this is normal. Pulse Before Workout: 42 First 1.5 miles: 177 (7:30/mile pace) (Warmup) Next 1.
1101325 tn?1321253073 t tolerate a heart rate of 150, will probably have an ICD programmed to shock at heart rate 140. A young person who can tolerate a heart rate of 220, will probably not shock before the heart rate is very high or they go into ventricular fibrillation. It sounds weird to have VT from an ASD repair. The atria do not produce VT, if you have atrial scar tissue, you can develop reentry atrial tachycardia.
