706949 tn?1228923298 I just came across and article that says "Adenosine and other AV node blockers should be avoided in atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter with WPW or history of it; this includes adenosine, diltiazem, verapamil, other calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers." And my son is on atenolol for WPW. Should I be concerned?
523728 tn?1264621521 The American Cancer Society reports that "[t]here is no reliable scientific evidence that ****** therapy is effective in treating cancer, and the principles behind it are not widely accepted by the medical community. It is not approved for use in the United States.
Avatar m tn Cozaar or losartan is ARB, that's right, it is more preferred than ACE inhibitors since it does not cause side effect particularly cough. I am taking cozaar too ;D another is maybe you become tachycardic because as we urinate (which is because sodium excretion is promoted by cozaar), blood volume decreases, as a result , increase in HR occur to compensate in low blood volume by trying to pump more blood. that's the reason i think behind the tachycardia thing.
Avatar n tn ____________ These muscle cramps can have many possible causes including hormonal imbalances, dehydration, low levels of potassium or calcium in the blood, side effects of medication, or, more seriously, diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and neuropathy. ____________ It also mentions that they are often seen during pregnancy. I sure had them then.

2046116 tn?1330102721 Yes my blood work is fine. Haemoglobin is good, blood count is good, white blood cells good and blood pressure is normal. No cancer. I am not anaemic. There is no problem showing, but there is obviously one. I can tell you when one is going to start. I get immense pressure in my head, eyes and gums, then out of no where bleed. After bleeding, due to so much blood loss, I get a headache and really dizzy. They have no explanation. can you think of anything?
Avatar m tn 1- is it true that calcium might be affected if he has low vitamin D even though the blood tests showed nothing concerning calcium ? 2- is there any relation between both ? 3- should he take calcium needles even though his blood tests were normal ? p.s , he is already on track on solving his vitamin D deficiency .
Avatar n tn why would one have a high calcium level in a blood test? Mine was 11.2. My doctor sent a note to stop taking calcium supplements - I never take any calcium supplements and I hate milk. Should I follow up on this or is it just something that happens from time to time? thank you.
Avatar m tn What do you take Calcium channel blockers for? Does your Calcium channel blocker consistently slow your heart down? I have an always fast heart, (daytime resting pulse in the mid 80's). During excercise, my pulse goes high quickly, and does not come down to a normal rythm in a normal timeframe. I am hoping Calcium channel blockers will slow my heart down, but I have read that a side effect of the medication actually can speed it up.
Avatar n tn What could it mean if I have too much calcium in my blood? I guess it is just slightly more than regular, but my doc is monitoring it. Also, do small goiters usually go away with Synthroid?
Avatar n tn OK, just received results of blood test & says high calcium (10.8). Well.......All winter I've been very well, no colds, no brochitis even when the rest of the family was ill. I believe Vit D3 helped keep me well. Been taking about 5000 iu per day. Think that could be causing trouble with the calcium?
Avatar f tn The only thing I saw (doctor did not think it was a problem) was my blood calcium had crept up from 9.7 in December of 2012 to 9.9 in December of 2013. Note: I do take hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg/day. My Vitamin D was 32 in June 2013 and was 29.5 in December 2013. She told me to take supplements to increase it after 29.5 reading. Is 9..9 too high? No parathyroid or thyroid test done. Doctor thinks this is perfectly normal.
Avatar f tn My cholesterol is now great (143 LDL and 73 HDL) and kidney function is also good. The only problem I had with my blood test (done on 12/5/2013) was that my calcium has crept up from 9.7 ti 9.9 from December 2012 to December 2013. They did not tell me about the calcium - I always ask about it since calcium was part of what was clogging my artery. They said the calcium level (9.9) was no problem. My Vitamin D was 29.5 and she did say to increase my supplement to raise to level.
1093351 tn?1317810854 Anyone had High Calcitriol (85) and High PTH (78) ? ? This time, calcium was 9.1 but I gave up all calcium last month and drink tons of water. Nurse told me the only way to lower calcium levels was to flush it out. I had some lasix back in February and it worked. Dropped my 10.5 calcium to 9.6 in 2 days. Feel better too.... but no calcium intake isn't good either. Still fatigued and achy but headaches, nausea, most of flank pain, and occasional vomiting have stopped.
393685 tn?1425812522 I am not sure how they survive but I do know the doctor tries to preserve them because they help with they way our body absorbs calcium. I am guessing that is why some have very low calcium after surgery if thay are affected by cancer, etc. My doctor said if they were damaged or had to be remove with my thyroid I would also have to take a calcium supplement for the rest of my life. This may sound crazy but, I thought about this all night.
Avatar m tn Hello everybody! I'm a 21 year old man, who is experiencing muscle twitches over the last 3 weeks. It's especially in my right foot, but i also have it in my both calves and sometimes in my other foot. Sometimes the twitching is less than other days, but i feel it everyday. I'm very concerned about this, i'm very affraid of illnesses like ALS.
Avatar f tn The Heart Rhythm Society did a few randomized trials to assess the efficacy of calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers and digoxin in SVT. A comparison of verapamil, propranolol and digoxin showed equivalent efficacy in a small group of patients. However, in general calcium channel blockers and beta-blockers are preferred to digoxin. Digoxin has been around for a long time! I used Digoxin over 50 years ago for my PSVT, and my recollection was that it did little to prevent episodes.
Avatar n tn My PTH is also high as is my calcium serum. My serum Vit D is very low. My urine phosphorus is LOW and my urine calcium is very low normal. Didn't get tests results back for the TSH yet. Took nuclear and contrasted scans and ultrasound of my thyroid and parathyroids but they weren't enlarged. I'm seeing an Endocronolgist for this. She's trying to put the pieces together. High parathyroidism can be Primary or secondary.
Avatar f tn When I am looking at something bright (like a computer screen or a white wall) and I blink, I can see something that resembles a vein or blood vessel in my vision when I first open my eye. It is only in my left eye and it goes away in about a second. I have been experiencing this for a couple of years and I am getting quite concerned because I seem to be noticing it more.
Avatar m tn The article is from Wikipedia, search for "Atheroma". Ok, apart from the CT scan for the Calcium Score, I had ECG, Echocardiogram, Ultrasound of carotid arteries and Nuclear Stress test. I know that the Calcium Score is misleading, that's why nobody can tell me how far my LAD is blocked.
Avatar f tn I have read a lot about "invisible cuts" permitting the entry of HIV. Take a look at wikipedia and masturbation. It states that "tiny mico tears" can allow for HIV to enter the body. Is this bs? Or true? Under what circumstances is it true?
Avatar f tn The very first thing to do is to try a calcium supplement. About eighteen percent of those with high blood pressure will have the pressure reduced with such a supplement. That data comes from a study I reviewed two decades ago for a major pharmaceutical company researching calcium-channel blockers. Squre two is to go to four cloves of garlic a day. Calcium supplements should be tried before introducing any medication, but these days many physicians get their M.D.s by sending in boxtops.
Avatar n tn If you are taking 4x/day then that would be 80 mg not 60 mg, which is not alot of extra calcium/day. Adults need between 1000-1500 mg of calcium/day. You definitely don't need to be taking any extra if your level is high at this time. I would ask your physician for recommendations about what else to take instead of the Peri-colace. Exactly how high was the level?
1611319 tn?1378618399 If your pth is inappropiately high at the same time as the calcium it could be a problem. Regardless, I am almost CERTAIN that a one time calcium reading of 10.8 means you have hyperparathyroidism. The problem is most docs other than Dr. Norman won't even mess with it unless its way higher. My calcium was 10 (10.1) being normal and pth 55, and Dr Norman told me I needed a lot more testing. His website does say though that even ONE reading of a high calcium is enough to diagnose you.
