Throat pain post tonsillectomy

Common Questions and Answers about Throat pain post tonsillectomy

throat

Avatar n tn I am about 9 weeks post tonsillectomy. The holes have not closed and food is getting stuck in them. It causes the skin to become inflamed and it is painful. Twice, I was placed on steroids. They didn't work. Did you ever heal or find anything to help this??
Avatar f tn Hi ChrisaniBieber This acute pain, post tonsillectomy is because the fossa from where the tonsils were excised is fibrosed, the reason being there was a longstanding infection and inflammation in that region which delays the process of healing. Hence this pain usually stays for long in adults compared to that of the children. So no need to worry, try to take frequent small feeds so that with the movements of the jaw the pain comes down gradually.
Avatar m tn So recently I have been having throat pain, and i took a look in the mirror with a flash light. I noticed I have yellow stuff in the back on my throat that wont move( tried with a q-tip). My tonsils are also swollen and inflamed, they also have the yellow stuff on it, that stuff wipes off though. The yellow stuff looks like mucous to me. I also have pain in my ears, head, and stomach. What could this be a sign of?
Avatar f tn The pain is not always there but it does wake me up at night and when I eat and is a 9/10 on a pain scale. This pain is almost worse than the pain during the first week after surgery! Is this normal? Is it from nerve injury?? Can someone please advise. Thank you in advance.
Avatar f tn - I say it like that because I have had the scratch test and injections and did not show to have any seasonal allergies. However, with my sore throat I have a lot of post nasal drip (possible cause of sore throat?). I take a combo of ibuphrophen, tylenol, and musinex to manage the pain. About 7 years ago I had reoccurring tonsillitis, saw an ENT and he put me on a strong antibiotic for 3 weeks.
Avatar f tn I did smoke off and on as a teenager and drank moderately. My throat has been red for a while now but I also have allergies/ post nasal drip and acid reflux. I have been getting a sharp pain in left ear that comes and goes. I also have gotten quite a few sore throats and sinus infections and upper respiratory infections over the last 2 years.
Avatar m tn 18 days post op here. Mostly healed up, still on pain meds though. I have a similar issue. Mine was also slightly cut at the base, and now it's not only the uvula that's hanging sideways, but also the skin that was behind one of the tonsils is connected to the back of my uvula, and is covering up 1/3rd of my throat. I will be scheduling an appointment next month for a checkup, will ask the surgeon about it.
Avatar m tn It could be sinusitis, if it is accompanied by nasal stuffiness and facial pain or pressure. Post nasal drip could also be due to allergens. These are substances like pollen, dust, animal dander, certain foods, insect venoms and certain medications. Exposure to allergens causes a runny nose with a resultant post nasal drip where secretions from the nose go backward into the throat and irritate causing cough. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Avatar n tn I have had relief from my sx of ear pain, hyper-salivation, headaches, and sharp pain near my eye. The tonsillectomy was uneventful and my ENT thinks I will be fine from here on out. So far so good but I wonder about the piece of bone that broke off, will it just deteriorate over time? I wonder if I'll need additional surgery in the future and also if my ENT made the right decision not to remove the broken piece of the styloid bone. Any comments would be appreciated.
1149339 tn?1261805108 I saw an otologist for chronic ear pain who looked in my throat and noticed I still have some of my tonsils. Given that I saw several ENT's for various issues after the surgery, the otologist was the first to notice my tonsils being present. Tomorrow I'm seeing my regular ENT, who did the surgery, to see what I should do about the issue. Now that I'm aware, my throat hurts the same way it did before I had surgery.
Avatar n tn Its not so much as of when you finally try to get some sleep and you wake up an hour later your mouth automatically opens up and it feels as if your throat was stuck together and it rips apart. That is the only pain that I actually felt. Sorry if that sounds horrible, not my intentions. I just stuck with the diet they said, just one thing that they never told me. They tell you that you should suck on ice and popcicles and such.
Avatar m tn I have been experiencing sore throats that are quite sore often and especially at night I get extremely bad burning pain in the area of the tonsillectomy, when I brush my teeth it feels like the back of my throat is being burnt. I have since noticed that in the tonsil area there is like a slit which creates like a pocket on the left side, it seems as though there are little pockets in the area if that makes sense. Should I be concerned? This was never present before.
Avatar m tn It was a huge amount of pain and hardship but Im now in the 5th week post-tonsillectomy (post-op) and the surgery wounds have been long healed more or less and the related pain is gone. Despite all this, what has never gone away is the dysphagia. I still cant swallow food easily, food still gets stuck in my esophgaus often until I drink water. Its just as bad as a month ago.
Avatar n tn I want to believe everything is going to be okay, but the constant tonsil and throat pain is a reminder. Any support for me please? Has anyone been through this and everything was okay. Just a tonsillectomy and they over invented the other symptoms?
Avatar f tn In August I had unprotected oral sex (mutual) and protected vaginal intercourse. Two days later I had a scatchy throat, and the next day (3 days after incident) I had a fever (took tylenol to help-lasted 2 days), severe sore throat (lasted 2 days), and night sweats (one night). One tonsil stayed enlarged after the fever/sore throat. At week five I tested negative for HIV. In mid November I had the enlarged tonsil removed. All pathalogy reports came back normal.
5856129 tn?1375518025 constant pain in the throat ) for more than two years now, all starts after i had sex with my present GF, we both tested negative for HIV ( she tested more than 7 times , all negative , i tested only twice ).the sore throat starts after a mouth ulcers & patches for like 3 months on & off i saw many doctors , all saying YOU ARE FINE , but i have unbelievable pain in my throat 24\7 . the question is , could it be a rare sub-type of HIV ,? what else could it be ?
Avatar m tn Gosh, I guess anything is possible. But my guess is that is not the case. Do you have a post op appointment? Usually you do or the next time you are in for a well check, ask. Ask if this looks like it should post tonsillectomy. Your uvula is likely a little swollen too. I'd just have a doctor look at it next time you are in if its the post op check or a general doc appointment.
Avatar f tn It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Infections in the throat cause lymph node enlargement. As, it is subsiding with the infection, it is the most likely cause.
Avatar m tn The first, which the otolaryngologist is more familiar with, is throat pain radiating to the ear in a post-tonsillectomy patient. The second, and lesser-known presentation, is constant throbbing pain throughout either the internal or external carotid artery distributions.
