Switching from paxil to zoloft

Common Questions and Answers about Switching from paxil to zoloft

paxil

Avatar m tn The Zoloft dose seems to be pretty close to the Paxil dose, although due to all of these meds varying in mechanism of action, it is impossible to find a perfect dose to start at with the new med....for each individual person. I think breaking up the Zoloft dose like he did will be helpful to you as well. There is no way we would be able to tell you what dose your doctor will Rx you, that is something you need to discuss with him.
Avatar n tn I too am switching from 37.5 mg Paxil CR to 50 mg Zoloft. I have been on Paxil for 11 years. I wish I could find that psych that prescribed it to me back when I was 16 and scream at him. Over the years Paxil has seemed to stop working for me and the wonderful doc's soultion was always, "Well...let's up the dose" and then "Well...let's try the controlled release formula.
Avatar n tn I've been on Zoloft for one year, in which time I've had to up my dosage to 200 mg to get the best results. Previously I was on Paxil for four years, but went off it due to weight gain, and then got depressed again two years later. Now, my Zoloft seems to be not working. I'm definitely feeling like I was when I first got depressed.
177505 tn?1220445858 hey everyone...got a question... my doc just switched me from zoloft (75mg) to paxil (10mg for now)(panic disorder.) zoloft just wasn't working for me anymore. i have been taking the paxil for 3 days now and i keep getting those damn electric zaps. otherwise i feel great...but the zaps are really getting strong and i hate it. how long do you think i will feel this?
Avatar f tn When I first decided to switch from Celexa to Zoloft three years ago, I was definately feeling anxious and like I was losing control. Is it due to the medications switch or to my underlying anxiety? In my opinion, it was probably a little bit of both. I went back to the doctor and my therapist and told them that I thought Zoloft was not right for me but I decided to stick with it and it actually is my personal choice combined with talk therapy.
3324154 tn?1347157977 I am wanting switch to Zoloft because I could sleep my life away and have gained 40lbs on Paxil. Went to the Doctor and she prescibed me to take 50 mg of Zoloft and to continue taking Paxil and cutting it into 10mg. I have had much more energy since starting the zoloft, however I am dizzy and feel like I am having brain ZAPS...I just feel really weird. I am suppose to stop my paxil on Tuesday and I am scared...wondering if I should take 100mg of Zoloft and than take 5mg of Paxil?
Avatar f tn Hello, I am in the process of switching from one medication to another as well. Your dosages are a bit different from mine but in my experience the slower the better. I say this only because it lessens the change of side effects but also it felt better for me. I was less nervouse about making the change. I found out that both of my medications came in liquid form and I am able to go down a mg at a time while going up on the new medication 2 mg.
Avatar n tn Right now you're stuck between what may be side effects of a new med and withdrawal from an old one. Better to complete withdrawal from Paxil first. Read a book called The Antidepressant Solution by Joseph Glanville, and get a psychiatrist who knows about these things. Good luck.
Avatar n tn my doctor tried lexapro, then zoloft. when i went to 100mg of zoloft i had the worst panic attacks. i couldn't stand it anymore after 10 days. the doctor wants to switch me to wellbutrin. says i can just switch over with no effects. is this true. I keep seeing it wires you up and may not be good for anxiety.
Avatar f tn Your doctor should put you on a regime to taper off the paxil and increase the zoloft. But if your doctor has said to stop paxil cold turkey and start zoloft you MAY experience withdrawals. You really need to discuss this further with your doctor and let him know what your fears are. There is no way to tell if the paxil has already hurt the baby, most likely not, but it's best to go ahead and switch to the zoloft as soon as possible as it is THE safest SSRI during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I know of two instances - one person switched from Paxil to Celexa and a second person switched from Effexor to Celexa - neither had any side effects. By the way, there was no "tapering off" period used for either one of these two people - changed the following day to the new medication.
Avatar n tn The standard way of treating this problem is to add Wellbutrin to the Paxil instead of switching. Weight gain with Zoloft is just as likely as paxil, so there is no advantage to that.
648798 tn?1224654186 My father is 71 years old and is on Zoloft and has been taking it for years and I am considering switching to Zoloft, overnight, hopefully starting tonight. My father also said the only side effect he had when he started taking the Zoloft, was a dry mouth. Although, I am very aware that everyone is different and sometimes do not have the same side effects as others. My pharmacist told to skip last night's dose of Paxil which I did, but he said only skip just 1.
Avatar n tn My dr decided to switch my medication from Paxil 80mg to Zoloft. He didn't wean me off either. I feel very odd, like I am disconnected from myself and on edge, not as relaxed. I feel at any moment like I am on the verge of having a panic attack. My last dose of Paxil was last night. My first dose of Zoloft was this morning. 100mg morning and 100mg at night. I wonder if this will get worse over the next few days. Has anyone ever experienced withdrawal from switching from one SSRI to another.
Avatar f tn Hello. I've recently been changed from Paroxetine to Zoloft as am looking to try for a baby and this is supposed to be 'safer'. My doctor has changed me over gradually. I took Paroxetine 20mg for 2 weeks plus Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg, then went to Paroxetine 10mg and Sertraline/Zoloft 50mg and 2 days ago I've stopped Paroxetine altogether and am now just on Zoloft 50mg...I'm off work today as I'm so depressed. All I want to do is cry and lay in bed. How long does it take for Zoloft to kick in?
Avatar f tn I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately. I'm at 100 mg now (for almost 7 weeks) and it hasn't gotten much better. I aslo take .5 mg of lorazapam twice a day.
Avatar n tn I know what normal feels like b/c that is when I Am the happiest. So, is it ok to take Zoloft to see if i were to really need it? Like to find out for sure if i suffer from depression?
Avatar f tn It may be easier to switch to the 12 hour formulation than to change drugs totally. Zoloft, paxil, and prozac are all similar to each other and can all cause drowsiness.
