Common Questions and Answers about Paxil zoloft side effects

paxil

2044839 tn?1331259441 I was recently tried on Zoloft and I thought the side effects I was having were withdrawls from my Effexor and new side effects from the Zoloft ... but it turned out I am allergic to the Zoloft and was having a reaction to it!
Avatar n tn - To restate my former Question #5 in the context above, if I switched to Wellbutrin (and weaned off Paxil), 1) what might Wellbutrin not do as well as Paxil, and 2) What different side effects is it known for? In other words, why would anyone choose Paxil over Wellbutrin? Is it less aggressive in treating anxiety? Or is it primarily a matter of trial and error with different drugs against people's inherently different brain/body chemistries?
Avatar n tn I am unsure of the dosage, but do know that he take it once a day in the morning. He briefly went off Paxil and was prescribed Zoloft but experienced ill effects. Now he is back on Paxil and we are having a hard time trying to conceive because he rarely ejaculates. This is putting further strain on him and he says that he wants to go off the medication entirely, but I don't think this will do good. Do you have any suggestions regarding what we can do or other medications that he can try?
Avatar f tn Why did you decide to get off of Paxil? Does it have different side effects? I know they are both SSRI's, so I was just wondering what the difference was in regards to planning for a family. Please keep us posted!
10361664 tn?1409613007 so he wants to up the paxil and take me off the zoloft cause of the side effects. I cant even work im sleeping til 2 in the afternoon and stomach is so upset! Thank you for your input I really appreciate it!
Avatar m tn I have been on zoloft for two weeks and the side effects are still pretty bad, without any benefits (it seems like it has been two years!). (I have tried lexapro, paxil, and celexa, but zoloft was the first AD I have taken and from my first experience seemed to produce the least side effects for me (although this time seems bad). I know it takes awhile for SSRI's to get working and initial side effects are common. I started taking 25mgs for a week and have been on 50mgs for a week.
Avatar n tn Juniper, Paxil, an SSRI(like Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox and Celexa) is indicated for the treatment of OCD as well as other anxiety and mood disorders. In general side effects( nausea, diarrhea, headache, fatigue) are minimal and generally resolve if experienced within the first few days to weeks of treatment. Please discuss these issues further with your psychiatrist. You may also find it helpful to search this forums archives for further information regarding OCD and Paxil.
Avatar f tn there are some other drugs out there with less side effects like cymbalta, zoloft, lexapro, celexa, buspar,. you need cut down the dosage slowly and start a new drug. i have tried some other ones but have not given them a chance im dependant on my paxil. did you notice with paxil if you drink you get drunk way quicker too?

Avatar n tn My own advice would be to wean off Paxil before trying another antidepressant so you can tell which effects are withdrawal from Paxil and which are side effects of the new med. It's hard to do when you're essentially on two meds at once; even though Paxil leaves the body quickly, the brain takes a while to adapt to the cessation of these meds. But this is just my opinion.
Avatar n tn I would NOT advise you to switch to Wellbutrin as the previous post suggested! I take Zoloft, which is relatively similar to Paxil. About three years ago, I was on the highest recommended dose of Zoloft. I was never advised that weight gain would be an issue. In less than two months, I gained over 30 pounds!!! I have never had a weight problem before. I could not figure out why I was gaining so fast and so much. The horrible stretch marks on my stomach were more devastating than the depression!
Avatar n tn I decided it was time to stop due to side effects (ie. wight gain and lost sex drive) I was taking 40mg tablets and I cut them in 1/2. I took 20mg for about 5 days. Then my Dr. said to cut the 20mgs in 1/2 to 10mg for 5 days. I did so. Ever since I've been on Paxil, Ive noticed that I get tingly in my hands and face and I get light headed. Its a really weird feeling. This feeling has increased and happens more often since as I've lowered the dosage and then went off the medication.
324184 tn?1308079803 Thats exactly what happened to me with Zoloft. How long were you on Paxil, any side effects for you?
Avatar n tn Hi Awadd. The Paxil might help, indeed, but - it might not, and... I hate to say it, but it's true -- it might make you feel worse. It is an AntiD that is frequently tried for social anxiety, sometimes with success; sometimes not. Most patients who can't tolerate it complain of "makes me feel like a zombie". That doesn't mean those side effects will happen to you. The most common side effects (which will be listed on the drug insert or on-line at http://www.paxil.
Avatar n tn Personally, I found Prozac with Xanax as needed to be a perfect combo for me. I had been on Paxil, tried Zoloft, and Celexa. There's no med that works as well as Xanax [alprazolam] for anxiety. I never used too much and was always careful about that. I never had any side effects either. It's the best thing for insomnia also.
Avatar f tn There are so many horror stories out there. Has anyone ever stopped taking paxil successfully?
1693156 tn?1306215876 anyways with all these post should i quit taking this med? i mean i get some side effects like nausea, and no appitite at all i have to make my self eat so i can take my med. what should i do, i no the side effects will go away. but all these post on here is scaring the h_ _ _ out of me!!

Avatar n tn Hi, I was on Paxil for a period of time and never gained any weight at all, but I also went to the gym 4 times a week and watched what I ate. Exercise also helped relieve my anixety/depression. If you can, try and get a little bit of exercise each day. As far as comming off of the Paxil, I did find it more difficult then when I came off of Prozac. In any case when (if) you decide to come off of the Paxil, don't quit cold turkey!
Avatar n tn If you have anxiety and panic, and now have anxiety about starting the meds, that doesn't bode well for success. All these drugs have side effects and it can be difficult to stick out the time (usually a couple weeks) until the side effects begin to mellow out. It is also true that we are all different in how we react to meds and you may not have ANY side effects at all. You won't know until you give them a fair trial.
Avatar n tn For example, my doc slowed down my taper when I was noticiing side effects....it helped me tremendously. I also choose to stay on a very low dose of Zoloft right now. In my opinion, one must weigh the benefits vs. side effects of anything we put into our bodies. I am of the addage, 'if ain't broke, don't fix it,' and I have chosen to do this, but some do not want to remain on medication and that is fine as well in my opinion.
550739 tn?1224166972 A lady that works with me is on it, she used to get panic attacks and she has been on Paxil for 15 years. She told me that she had no side effects from it and after about three weeks, she felt great again, like "herself" I long to feel like that again too, but I am so nervous about medication!!!! I just cannot stress it enough. I know that I need help and I thought I could teach myself to get over it, but it seems like the meds are my only other option.
Avatar n tn I have been very sensitive to paxil in the past (the intital side effects were totally crippling for me and it took 3 months or so to level out). I was on 40mg daily when I stopped though I'd missed a couple of days doses the previous week. 4/5 days after that I had 'things' happen to me at night that I cannot call nightmares.
648798 tn?1224654186 My pharmacist told to skip last night's dose of Paxil which I did, but he said only skip just 1. Honestly, if I am going to feel this way and have all these side effects from taking Paxil, I do not want to continue taking it, at all whatsoever. Would you? After this is posted, I am going to my local Walk-In Care Clinic to see their Doctor and ask him if I should swtich to Zoloft, starting tonight. Any suggestions OR recommendations from any one who has experienced what I just experienced?
Avatar f tn I used to take Paxil which worked very well...loved it. Like you, I couldn't cry if I wanted to and didn't for an entire year. I stopped the Paxil (weened off gradually, not easy either) and now just started on Wellbutrin which I love. You can cry on Wellbutrin too! Wellbutrin is not an MAOI nor an SSRI, so it doesn't have the weight gain. From what I have read it tends to have weight loss. I took Zoloft a long time ago and became an emotional wreck while I was on it.
