Paxil and zoloft sexual dysfunction

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil and zoloft sexual dysfunction

Avatar n tn Hello Doctor, I would like to give you a little background information about myself. As a young teen, I once urinated and ejacuated at the same time during masturbation. I contracted my PC muscles really hard to stop the flow of urine and ever since then, ejaculation has been painful throughout the PC muscle contractions so I would only masturbate to near climax, fearing that it would be even more painful if I reached climax.
Avatar n tn K, Paxil is generally well tolerated and there are usually no problems when discontinued as you describe. Sexual dysfunction is not uncommon and like other related side effects , it resolves after the medication is stopped. A flu-like syndrome is the most common problem when discontinuing Paxil. The numbness/tingling may represent a rare side effect, a seperate medical condition, or symptom of anxiety/depression. I recommend that you discuss these issues further with your physician.
Avatar n tn I can tell you that I was on Zoloft briefly (a week or two) and it made me anxious/shaky/nervous and I had some tremor from it. I had to go off of it and onto Paxil.... which didn't turn out to be a great thing for me either!
Avatar n tn JB, SSRI related sexual dysfunction is fairly common. The additon of Wellbutrin SR, Buspar and somtimes Ritalin are some of the possible medications that may improve your situation. Please discuss this issue further with your psychiatrist. It may also be helpful to search this forums archives using sexual dysfunction as a keyword.
Avatar n tn Prozac, Zoloft, Wellbrutrin, and now Paxil- The paxil has been a wonder drug for me- I actually have a normal life now. However the down side is the weight gain- I have gained a tremendous amount of weight in the year that Ive taken this. This is very sad to me- for fear that if I keep going I could weigh more and more. I do exercise (not as much as I should), Ive just started back and I hope this will help.
Avatar n tn Edema or face edema in particular is an infrequent side effect of Paxil. Sexual dysfunction is a common side effect among the Selecive serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) which includes Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Luvox. Other medications with low or no incidence of sexual dysfunction include Wellbutrin and Remeron. You may want to discuss other alternatives regarding your present medications to your physician.
Avatar n tn No fatigue or sexual dysfunction. 3. Zoloft can increase both energy and nervous energy. It can be overstimulating and counteract the anti-anxiety effect you are looking for. 4.You would use Wellbutrin and Paxil concurrently at adjusted doses for about 3 weeks, then gradually wean from Paxil. 5. I think I answered this in other answers.
Avatar n tn The Zoloft made me feel emtionless, slow-witted, and dull - like the world was passing me by very, very quickly but I was moving very, very slowly - NOT a good feeling at all but I felt that I needed the Zoloft and so I kept taking it. My mother and boyfried both claim that the Zoloft has destroyed my sense of humor and that I don't see the world as it is and I am apt to agree with them - I just very slow to react and I know it.
Avatar n tn Side effects may include sedation and sexual dysfunction. Consider taking Paxil earlier in the evening to avoid early morning tiredness. Zoloft and Prozac are similar to Paxil in their side effect profiles for sexual dysfunction (20-25%). Antidepressants with minimal sexual side effects are Wellbutrin and Remeron. Discuss your concerns with your psychiatrist. Please remember, side effects are a possibility with medication and not a definite occurance. Best Wishes, HFHS M.D.
Avatar n tn I've heard this is wonderful in relation to panic. I was on zoloft, paxil and prozac for panic and had fine results with all, except for nasty sexual side effects from prozac. I went off that. There are so many drugs available for this now - ask your doctor. They are not all necessarily in the paxil/prozac family, so I am sure there will be one to fit your needs. It takes so long to find one that works - hang in there and don't give up because there is hope. I'm living proof!
Avatar n tn Is there anything out there that treats the fatigue and doesn't cause sexual dysfunction??? Why is it that these types of medication affect having an orgasm???
Avatar n tn I think I started with anxiety, tied into hypocondriac (not sure how to spell that one) and after months of seeing every doctor on earth they put me on paxil. Gain tons of weight and they swtiched me to zoloft, 50mg. I took it for about 6 months (with paxil about a year) and got slowly off of it. I was ok but we had a major change in our life so I started with my panick attacks again. I just dont know how to control that fear of dying.
Avatar n tn A little over a year ago I went to a walk-in clinic and confessed my feelings to the doctor, he perscribed Zoloft. I took it for awhile and was feeling happier but the sexual side effects were taking a toll on my relationship with my boyfriend, which was the one good thing I felt I had in my life. The doctor switched me to Wellbutrin and I felt 100% better. So I after a year a stopped taking it, about a month after I began to feel depressed again and so I began to take the Wellbutrin again.
Avatar f tn Personally, I'd stay away from Paxil and Effexor just as Nursegirl said unless they were the last thing left to try. And I also agree, how long were you on the Lexapro? I've been on Paxil and Lexapro, and Paxil was much more sedating and made me gain a lot of weight, and I'm very active. Or was. Prozac can be stimulating, and its effectiveness with anxiety by reputation isn't as good as other ssris, but it is the most benign to stop taking.
784382 tn?1376934640 I can tell you about MY experience with Zoloft. First, it is actually one of the the most commonly Rx'd SSRI's for anxiety and panic with a great record of success. Zoloft was the first med I ever took for my panic disorder and I'll tell you, it gave me my life back. I went from literally housebound to "back to me" in a matter of months. I am a huge Zoloft supporter.
Avatar n tn ) I went off Paxil due to frustration over 1) somnolence (sleeping good part of weekend days away), 2) asthenia (the 5 mile run I'd done for years became a difficult chore), 3) lessened motivation (one of the good parts of anxiety, I guess), 4) sexual dysfunction and 5) weight gain (5 side-effects in one patient--not bad, eh?) Withdrawl symptoms were unpleasant but not near as crippling as I've read about (mostly brain zaps).
Avatar f tn I just wanted to share an experience that might give people some hope with regards to coping with the sexual dysfunction often experienced on the SSRI class of drugs. My husband takes Zoloft and has had problems reaching orgasm and maintaining an erection during sex practically his whole adult life/he's been on some form of SSRI since age 22. His doc prescribed Buspar,(buspirone) as a possible counter to this side effect.
Avatar n tn I have a friend on 200mg zoloft and 75 mg far as SSRIs go, the worst offenders seem to be paxil, effexor and lexapro, with cymbalta now gaining recognition as well. And the side effect profile is just awful! Hope this helps some people..if you ARE on a high dose of SSRI for a while, like others have mentioned, and just like with benzos, tapering is the only way to go. Yes, it will be uncomfortable, but nothing like abrupt discontinuation.
Avatar n tn It is in a similar class to Viagra and Levitra. Unfortunately, sexual dysfunction is a common side effect for Zoloft and similar medications (i.e. Prozac and Paxil). If this is a consideration, changing medications can be discussed. Other antidepressants, such as Wellbutrin or Wellbutrin XL, are another class of antidepressants that does not have sexual side effects. Discussion if this medication can be done with your personal physician.
Avatar m tn The sustained release formulation fared almost as well with a rate of 25%. In contrast, the SSRIs (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft and Celexa), venlafaxine (Effexor) and mirtazapine (Remeron) averaged about 40%. When subjects were removed who had other probable causes of sexual dysfunction, the results were even better. Wellbutrin's rate dropped to 7% with the other medications dropping to between 23-30%. "
Avatar n tn My husband is being treated for depression and has been given first Prozac and now Paxil. The medicines have blocked his ability to orgasm which is making him more frustrated than ever. Is there another medicine that would work better?
Avatar n tn The things you do not like change or throw them out of your life. I will try to finf the site for the free Paxil and repost it to you. Take care and as Skip on the addiction forum would say, " keep an angel on your shoulder". Take care and I will be praying for you.
Avatar n tn I have been battling depression and anxiety ever since i was a teenager (I am now 31 years of age). After trying out Paxil, Wellbutrin and Zoloft over the last 5 years (always short term ) and disliking all of them, I have been on Effexor for the past year. I am taking 2 x 37.5 mg a day. Some side effects occured during this time, like increased sweating and sexual dysfunction, but all in all i was content and improved immensely. Also, seeing a therapist helps a lot.
Avatar n tn and the comfort of knowing that she wasn't the Lone Ranger in her complaints, with sexual dysfunction being one of them (Zoloft didn't conain that, but the Paxil did). I just had to comment on this topic... because my own daughter and sister complained of the very same side-effects.
Avatar f tn I have constant grinding, popping, and cracking sounds in my joints all over my body, especially in my neck, very badly in my shoulders, my back, jaw, elbows, wrists, knees and hips. It does not usually hurt but my muscles and joints hurt and seem to be tense, weak and stiff. Can anxiety cause all of these CONSTANT symptoms? This problem is effecting my life and my relationships and I just want to feel normal and like my old self again.
Avatar n tn I have been taking anti-depressants for over a week now and they have stopped my anxiety, well lessened it at least, but I'm really worried about the side-effects of taking SSRI's; for example weight gain and sexual dysfunction. Has anyone experienced these? What I'm saying really is do the positives outweigh the negatives.
Avatar f tn I never had any nausea from Paxil, by the way, and the sexual dysfunction was the same as from imipramine. But if you read accounts of people who take these drugs, you'll see sexual dysfunction from all of them, for some people, and nausea from all of them, for some people. I had no problem discontinuing imipramine, but many people have terrible times going off tricyclics. It all depends on the person.
Avatar n tn I have been taking it for 6 years with noe of the side effects you get with lots of anti depressants like tremors.tics and sexual dysfunction.
503727 tn?1210442710 i was taking sertraline (zoloft) and didnt find it effective. i stopped taking it and now im trying to shake the last bit of this anxiety stuff off. meds can be good if you are in really deep anxiety though, only use them temproarily (or at least thats what i say) until you can conquer these panic attacks. having scientific reassurance helps a lot. since you've been tested for multiple things and show up fine, be relieved, that's perfect.
