Paxil to zoloft

Common Questions and Answers about Paxil to zoloft

Avatar f tn what is the proper way to taper back to paxil? 3. How unsafe is paxil with pregnancy and what other options do I have? HELP! I feel like I am losing my mind!!!!
177505 tn?1220445858 she is going to get me off of the paxil and back onto the zoloft, but this time, i found out that my insurance covers the name brand. she said i will, for a little bit be on paxil and zoloft to wean down off of the paxil. this makes me nervous because of taking 2 meds at the same time plus taking ativan as needed. will this be safe or can i just go from paxil to zoloft since i haven't really be on a high dose of paxil for a long period of time? i am just wanting to feel better.
1258539 tn?1293843802 I have only been on Paxil 20mg for 6 days and my doc wants me to switch to zoloft100 and stop the paxil. Do you think I will have bad side affects of doing this?
Avatar n tn my doctor tried lexapro, then zoloft. when i went to 100mg of zoloft i had the worst panic attacks. i couldn't stand it anymore after 10 days. the doctor wants to switch me to wellbutrin. says i can just switch over with no effects. is this true. I keep seeing it wires you up and may not be good for anxiety.
Avatar f tn When I went to see my psychiatrist last night, we discussed it and he has decided to start me on Paxil, while tapering off of the Zoloft. I will still be taking my 100 mg of Zoloft in the a.m. but will be taking 20 mg of the Paxil in the evenings instead of the 2nd dose of Zoloft. I am curious as to what exactly the side effects will be during this transition? And how effective will it be? I am a very nervous and overly health-concious person (obviously) and am almost afraid to try it.
Avatar n tn Everyone has different answers for me and I don't know what to believe or do. My psychologist wants me to dump Zoloft for Effexor but i don't want to do that after only 5 days of Zoloft. My medical doctor wants me to up my Zoloft dose to 100mg/day but that seems extreme too after only a few days. Any recs? PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Avatar f tn Your doctor should put you on a regime to taper off the paxil and increase the zoloft. But if your doctor has said to stop paxil cold turkey and start zoloft you MAY experience withdrawals. You really need to discuss this further with your doctor and let him know what your fears are. There is no way to tell if the paxil has already hurt the baby, most likely not, but it's best to go ahead and switch to the zoloft as soon as possible as it is THE safest SSRI during pregnancy.
Avatar m tn The Zoloft dose seems to be pretty close to the Paxil dose, although due to all of these meds varying in mechanism of action, it is impossible to find a perfect dose to start at with the new med....for each individual person. I think breaking up the Zoloft dose like he did will be helpful to you as well. There is no way we would be able to tell you what dose your doctor will Rx you, that is something you need to discuss with him.
Avatar n tn your sex drive is probably not going to be that high while on most anti-depressants). So now, I am back to Zoloft. I have lost 50 pounds so far and I am going to continue to work on that. The key, I have found, is in DOSAGE. I take only 50mg per day vs. the 200mg a day I was taking when all of the weight piled on. I have been back on Zoloft for almost a year and so far, so good. I will give you so more information.
324184 tn?1308079803 Thats exactly what happened to me with Zoloft. How long were you on Paxil, any side effects for you?
Avatar n tn I am on Zoloft, Wellbutrin & Xanax. My Psychiatrist wants to try Paxil but I am terrified of weight gain? Is it really that common? Any one else out there have any insights?
Avatar n tn Because of weight gain doctor has suggested switching to Zoloft. How do you think the doctor could switch. Does it work for most people in switching from one SSRI to another or do most people have significant side effects?
Avatar n tn Juniper, Paxil, an SSRI(like Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox and Celexa) is indicated for the treatment of OCD as well as other anxiety and mood disorders. In general side effects( nausea, diarrhea, headache, fatigue) are minimal and generally resolve if experienced within the first few days to weeks of treatment. Please discuss these issues further with your psychiatrist. You may also find it helpful to search this forums archives for further information regarding OCD and Paxil.
Avatar n tn Personally, I found Prozac with Xanax as needed to be a perfect combo for me. I had been on Paxil, tried Zoloft, and Celexa. There's no med that works as well as Xanax [alprazolam] for anxiety. I never used too much and was always careful about that. I never had any side effects either. It's the best thing for insomnia also.
324184 tn?1308079803 I have been on zoloft for over a year and it seems as though my body has become immune to it and it's no longer working for me. My dr has switched me to Paxil and I know from experience (but did it anyways b/c I couldn't resist) that you shouldn't necessarily pay attention to the horror stories that you find online... b/c everyone is different, but I would like some feedback.
Avatar f tn remember only those that have 'problems' tend to shout about them. Few say that 'the drugs saved my life' etc. I'm now on Effexor/Zoloft for life due to relapsing too many times ~ but Paxil was not the cause of it.
Avatar m tn Paxil is one the most difficult meds to take and especially to quit, so nobody's going to give it to you other than a quack unless everything else is tried first and they can monitor you. That's just how it goes. Can your dad take you to the psychiatrist for a chat?
Avatar f tn Paxil is associated with a discontinuation syndrome. To minimize this, taper the dose slowly and gradually. You can ask your doctor to recommend a taper schedule. Also, ask your doctor about other medications without sexual side effects.
Avatar n tn Hi I have been on Paxil for over a year now. I am taking 40mg daily. I decided it was time to stop due to side effects (ie. wight gain and lost sex drive) I was taking 40mg tablets and I cut them in 1/2. I took 20mg for about 5 days. Then my Dr. said to cut the 20mgs in 1/2 to 10mg for 5 days. I did so. Ever since I've been on Paxil, Ive noticed that I get tingly in my hands and face and I get light headed. Its a really weird feeling.
Avatar n tn I've been taking paxil for 10 years and I have not gained weight but I do moderate exercise every morning to help me feel relaxed physically in addition to mentally. Im nervous to stop taking paxil so the comments here have helped me know what to expect. I'm kinda thinking if I'm nervous about it then.. ha ha I probably shouldn't go off of it. I'm still building my tool box of skills to keep anxiety at a minimum. The paxil works great because I feel more in control and more reasonable.
273488 tn?1191180219 I was on Paxil for 3 years (prescribed for Panic Disorder & Extreme Anxiety). I thought mine gave me a bit of problems with my GI tract from time to time, but you sound just like I did. Worrying about every little thing. Stress and anxiety can do some funny things to you physically if you dwell and obsess. (I know the feeling!) The more you obsess, the more you're going to find and question and you could end up going to the ER over it (as I did, many times).
Avatar n tn But withdrawal was too much for me to handle in my teen years so I always had to go back to the medication. At this point I'm only on 10 milligrams, but still I want to be off it all together. My question is: is it too late? Will I be able to function without this medication or is my brain trained to rely on it?
1693156 tn?1306215876 so i weaned my self off of it slowly took me a while, i have been off paxil for like a year, and i went back to the doctor cause having uncontrolable thoughts, and i keep thinking about the past panick actacks wich in turn make me have more panick attachs ect.. so she put me on paxil again. its only been one week today and i lost 6 pounds!!! is that normal cause all ive heard was about everyone elses weight gains.
Avatar n tn If your anxiety and panic begin to interfer with your daily life, then it may be time to discuss turning to meds for relief. Either way, therapy is the key to getting over your anxiety/panic. Medication only masks the symptoms, they do nothing to help you understand where and why you have the anxiety. When you understand and confront that, you can, with the help of your therapist, conquer your anxiety.
Avatar m tn He was taking 20mg when we got married, 7 years ago, but he reduced the amount to 10 mg since then. He also tried to reduce to 5mg, but his stomach was upset, (the reason why he is taking this is social anxiety, he cannot eat well with bothered stomach when he has worry, stress, or occasion to to something like presentation or meet new people) so he could not quit all the amount. We have a son born after 1 and half year after marriage, 6 years ago.
Avatar n tn I do have one friend, however, who had to change to zoloft because the Paxil did not agree with her. Best of luck to you! Hope you feel better very soon!
550739 tn?1224166972 Its just that we all need people to understand and relate to what we are going thru. My aunt was also on Paxil and she said that she did great. Other people and online stories, I hear some bad things about it. I am supposed to go to the doctors for a follow up to this medication, little does she know, the bottle of paxil has been in my purse for almost two weeks and everyday, I struggle to get the courage to take a pill. I am so lost. Please, give me advice.
Avatar n tn Thanks to all that replied. As far as tapering off is concerned I have tried that with no sucess. I take 60 mil. per day and unfortuantly I can't afford the 180.00 a month that it takes to buy the drug. I have been researching the side affects of not taking the drug and was hoping there was something over the counter I could take to help with the withdrawl process. I know that there is Kava-Kava. Thanks.
177505 tn?1220445858 hey a question... my doc just switched me from zoloft (75mg) to paxil (10mg for now)(panic disorder.) zoloft just wasn't working for me anymore. i have been taking the paxil for 3 days now and i keep getting those damn electric zaps. otherwise i feel great...but the zaps are really getting strong and i hate it. how long do you think i will feel this?
