Peg intron ribavirin therapy

Common Questions and Answers about Peg intron ribavirin therapy

peg-intron

Avatar f tn My husband who has been on the Peg Intron therapy for 17 weeks is suddenly experiencing nausea. His side effects have been mininal to date, but is it possible this is being caused by the medication? Can this side effect appear out of nowhere at this point in time?
Avatar n tn Fewere symtoms, best results? Pegasys is a newer med but my doc wants to put me on Peg-intron?????? All that I've read, everyone prefers Pegasys....Anyone have a good doc in S.Fla?
Avatar m tn My experience was that Pegasys was by far and away easier to tolerate than was Peg-Intron and I took a bigger dose of ribavirin with Pegasys than I did with Peg-Intron. I treated with Peg-Intron on my second try and I cleared late probably around week 24. I knew that I shouldn't stop at week 53 but I was so beat up I just threw in the towel and prayed. I relapsed is less than 3 weeks and started on Pegasys 5 weeks later.
Avatar n tn I wanted to try Pegasys, but the Dr who runs the program at Kaizer in the portland area, has said that pegasys is used in people under 75Kg or about 165Lbs and Peg-Intron is more effective in people over 75Kg or 165Lbs. Have any of you been told this? I have searched all over the internet and cannot find anything to backup his thinking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Starting the HepC Tx in Aug. I have done alot of research and PREFER to use Pegasys(Roche) over Peg Intron. My info says the side effects are less SVR is better with Pegasys; that, coupled with the fact that there is a class action lawsuit against Scherring-Plough because of PegIntron..well.... My doctor wants me to use Peg Intron because Pegasys is NOT weight based. However, Pegasys dosage CAN be configured to the patient and viral response as well as weight, with a little simple math!!
Avatar n tn recommend her 80 microgram dose of peg-intron injections with 400mg Virex capsulse. While I have read on Peg-intron literature that its dose is given by weight. For monotherapy use 0.5 microgram/kg/week. For combination therapy 1.5 microgram/kg/week...i think my mother case is combination therapy (injections + capsules). And for 60 kg weight injection dose should be 100 micrograms. Please advise.
Avatar n tn I am interested in moving my peg-intron shot night from Friday to Sunday now that my kiddos will be back in school. My doc recommended doing it over a couple of weeks (i.e. go to saturday one week and then sunday the next). This sounds reasonable to me but just wanted to see if you guys have been any experience with doing this or have any advice. I guess my biggest concern is that I don't want to risk my peg levels getting too low. Many thanks.
442340 tn?1326821017 I got two letters today, one saying that I am denied Peg-Intron beacuse I did not try pegasys. And the second said I was denied Ribaviron because that is only approved for people with hep C using peg-intron or pegasys with geno 2 or 3. HELLO INSURANCE CO....I'm HCV and geno 3!!!! SOOOO FRUSTRATING! Sorry, needed to vent. Any advice would be great! Thanks!
Avatar n tn I've treated 7 times with Reg-Intron-A, Infergen, Pegasys, Peg-Intron, Maintenance and a combination of Infergen-Actimmune-Riba. All at different times, of course! Anyhow, this is what happened to me.
163305 tn?1333672171 I have heard that the sx for peg-intron are worse than pegasys. There is a thread from last week discussing this very topic. You might check the archives for a quick answer.
Avatar n tn I was just informed yesterday that I am a non-reponder after 12 weeks of PEG Intron treatment. I am enrolled in a clinical trial for Peg Intron and needed to have a 2 log drop in my viral load, mine is .93. When I started treatment, my load was 1,267,442 IU, dropped to 92,854 WK2; elevated to 641,599 WK4 and I am now at 149,000 WK12. I am told this is considered non-responsive and have a meeting with a nurse and hep doc tomorrow.
Avatar n tn This is why ppl usually get more sides with PEG-Intron. P.S.
26471 tn?1211940121 Mark Sulkowski of Johns Hopkins may have been the first guy to double Peg-Intron. Cecil made it popular. Sulkowski is probably more revered. Lots of heavy hitters out there are ignoring FDA recommended protocol and proving that novel therapies work for a significant number of nonresponders. One of the big things emerging is extended dosing for genotype 1.
Avatar f tn If taking Vic 3xtx do u get to pick Pegasus or peg intron Or do u have no choice? Cause another thread about int fevers said that a study done in Italy showed better results with Pegasus Thank u!
Avatar n tn My father was diagnosed w/Hep C and began treatment 7 months ago. After being on Peg-Intron and Ribavirin for 5 & 1/2 months, he was told that his liver enzymes were back to normal and only continue the treatment to complete a 6 month course. He was initially told that he would have to be on this treatment for 10 months. He has now been off of his interferon for 4 weeks and received a call from the Dr. telling him that his bloodwork came back showing elevated liver enzymes again.
314554 tn?1337457719 I realize this is a frequently addressed topic – but I am trying to get this straight in my mind; so, here goes: Given: 1) Due to it's longer and branched-chain PEG, Pegasys has a half-life ("terminal elimination") of 50-80 hours. 2) Whereas, due to it's shorter and linear-chain PEG, Peg Intron has a half-life of 30-50 hours. (Note that NPIA or non-pegylated interferon alfa has a half-life of only 3-5 hours.
Avatar n tn I did both but relapsed w/Peg-Intron. But I cleared late and stopped at 53 weeks. Also ribavirin dose was 800 mg. and I think that is why I cleared with Pegasys & 1000 mg. ribavirin- but I did 73 weeks too.
Avatar m tn http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1804105/ The above study also indicates that lean body weight has an impact on levels in the blood. I'm in my first week of triple tx with Incivek so my morning dose of RBV is taken with the fatty meal for that. It's the evening dose that I am not taking with a fatty snack because of the difference in the 8 hour /12 hour dosing schedule.
Avatar n tn He was sicker on Peg intron than he was Infergen but he hasn't tried Pegasys. His Doctor prefers Peg-intron but I'm sure he never had to take it! I think our plan is to try Pegasys /Riba and Alinia. Hopefully the Alinia will keep him covered when they have to reduce Riba. He is also taking PPC which could help this time.
Avatar n tn I have the kind of HCV positive(chronic) that does not respond so wellto interferon treatments. I have choosen to try this Interferon-Ribavirin therapy regardless with hopes of getting better. I start this therapy soon after the new year.I live in Bend,Oregon and feel I need to attend a support group either for Interferon-Ribavirin therapy users or HCV positive(chronic) patients. Do you know if there are support groups in my area????
Avatar f tn I have used it TOO MANY times to count, not only it but the original interferon Intron-A and Pegasys's competition Peg-Intron and another type of interferon- and older type called Infergen. I would definitely have preferred to start out doing my first treatment with one of these newer power drugs (as in pills) as opposed to sticking myself with a needle. Honestly, in my case, it was a needle that I got the Hep C from in the beginning of all this. My own youthful folly.., but still.
80575 tn?1207135964 I am having a problem with posting here and I don't know why?? Anyway, I've done maintenance therapy on the old interferon, Intron-A.
Avatar f tn Sorry, I forgot to mention extreme perspiration (dripping wet) and insomnia. I'm done complaining now, not complaining, just venting.
901131 tn?1293748153 Interim Phase II study results showed that, when paired with ribavirin, Locteron demonstrated potency against Hepatitis C similar to pegylated interferon. In addition, Locteron demonstrated 57 percent fewer adverse effects at a more favorable dosing schedule of once every other week.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I've just started peg-intron/ribasphere therapy about 7 weeks ago. I had a blood test last week that showed my viral load dropped from 800,000 at the beginning to 81 last week. The doctor seems to think I have a really good chance of being undetectable at the crucial 12 week mark. The problem is, the therapy is horrendous. I'm afraid I'm going to lose my job and maybe my wife because it has turned me into a serious butthead. Of course I also have 0 energy.
Avatar n tn I am post-transplant on tx for the first time, week 14 of 48, with peg-intron .5 on the #4 redipen and 1200 mg ribavirin a day. Here are some of my transplant/treatment stats: age 51 male; 5'10, 200 lbs.; liver is about 57 years old; genotype 1a; contracted virus in 1974; last biopsy was 6/2004, grade 2, stage 2) eight days in a coma in 1999 with sepsis and multi-organ failure; transplanted January 2001; bilirubin always between 2.3 and 2.
Avatar n tn Given your low pre-tx viral load and minimal liver damage (stage 1), you should also discuss with your doctor the option of treating only 12 or 16 weeks (12 for Peg Intron, 16 for Pegasys)if you are non-detectible via a very sensitive blood test by week 4. Studies suggest that those with low pre-tx viral loads who are non-detec at week 4 have comparable success rates with those who treat 24 weeks. My guess is this is what your doctor has in mind with the early 3 week test, but do ask him.
Avatar f tn I supposedly found the top Gastro in Orlando, had a biopsy, and was placed on a waiting list for Peg-Intron. The biopsy showed that I had carried the disease for around 30 plus yrs., so their was significant disease. The Gastro was the pits & really knew nothing about Hep C. So, that was my second mistake. My first was not researching, finding out everything I could about the disease, instead I panicked and suffered terribly during the first treatment with no aids to help.
Avatar m tn There seems to be a renewed interest in the Tapering off the Interferon and Ribavirin as some are getting closer to the EOT or are in the planing stages as to what to do. Most are aware that being on these meds for so long that the body had become adapted to the higher than normal levels of the interferon in the body and are concerned about when treatment is stopped what will be the lasting effects if any, after stopping abruptly.
Avatar n tn I'm still leaving myself with an emergency PEG - Peg-Intron, in case I decide against Infergen and start right off with Pegasys/Actimmune. If I don't get the kinetics slope I want, I'll stop treatment for a bit, then start in with high-dose Peg-Intron twice a week.
