Common Questions and Answers about Peg intron

peg-intron

Avatar f tn I just took my first shot of Peg Intron Friday night, and I got pretty sick, but thank God after I stayed in bed the next day I felt better. Do these reactions happen every time you inject it or does your body eventually get use to it. Also my viral load is only 300 and I have genotype 1. Can anyone give me more information about my Hep C being cured after this treatment or does it ever get cured?
Avatar n tn Fewere symtoms, best results? Pegasys is a newer med but my doc wants to put me on Peg-intron?????? All that I've read, everyone prefers Pegasys....Anyone have a good doc in S.Fla?
Avatar n tn I have had Rebitron thearapy also 2 months of Peg-Intron and ribo 2 years ago. I had to stop Peg-Intron because of sides.
Avatar n tn I wanted to try Pegasys, but the Dr who runs the program at Kaizer in the portland area, has said that pegasys is used in people under 75Kg or about 165Lbs and Peg-Intron is more effective in people over 75Kg or 165Lbs. Have any of you been told this? I have searched all over the internet and cannot find anything to backup his thinking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn Starting the HepC Tx in Aug. I have done alot of research and PREFER to use Pegasys(Roche) over Peg Intron. My info says the side effects are less SVR is better with Pegasys; that, coupled with the fact that there is a class action lawsuit against Scherring-Plough because of PegIntron..well.... My doctor wants me to use Peg Intron because Pegasys is NOT weight based. However, Pegasys dosage CAN be configured to the patient and viral response as well as weight, with a little simple math!!
Avatar n tn In 2000, I tried Intron A/Ribaviron combination, Schering's predecessor to Peg-Intron. I lasted 7 weeks and had to stop due to severe sides. Before trying treatment again, I found research (posted on this site at some point) showing Pegasys had fewer sides and may better for type 1's. Also, some folks here reported fewer sides and better quality of life. My GI was cool either way.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Hep C type 1b in October 2001. I took the PEG Intron treatment in 2002 and so far there is no sign of the virus in my blood. However the treatment was very difficult for me. One of the side effects was a numbness in my feet. This hasn't gone away after four years. It has made me very clumsy and has effected my balance. If I close my eyes I can't tell if I'm upright and tend to fall. Has anyone else experianced this? Where can I go for more information about this?
276730 tn?1327966546 I have only been on Pegasys but I was told that PegIntron has more sides, but that was just hearsay..I thought you weren't starting tx till january, or am I confused?
Avatar f tn My husband who has been on the Peg Intron therapy for 17 weeks is suddenly experiencing nausea. His side effects have been mininal to date, but is it possible this is being caused by the medication? Can this side effect appear out of nowhere at this point in time?
335297 tn?1210601484 I had hardly any sides on the Pegasys - but I didn't have as good as a viral load drop as I did with the Peg-Intron. I had more sides with the Peg-Intron but a bigger viral load drop. I hope for you, that all the rest of your treatment day are sides free.
Avatar m tn My treatment doctor prefers Pegasys (he runs Pegasys trials) and one of my primary consulting docs prefers Peg Intron (he runs Peg Intron trials). I also sense some bias in attitudes on the new PI's with those involved in the trials being more optimistic toward a particular PI and those not involved being less optimistic and perhaps more optimistic toward a PI they are trialing. The 'human nature' factor is always there, be it a doctor or not.
442340 tn?1326821017 Hi All, Well it looks like my docs office wants to treat me with Peg Intron (80 mg) and Ribaviron 1000mg tablets. She said the Peg Intron in her experience causes a more "predictable" decline in red blood cells than pegasys. I am only 110 lbs, so she said because it is weight based too, that is better for me. Any thoughts on Pegasys vs. Peg Intron? My stats again - female, mid 20s, type 3a, VL 950,000. I have been infected since birth (my mom was HCV). Thanks!
541844 tn?1244313424 I asked my doctor for pegasys over peg intron. He addressed my concerns and told me sx's for me would be similar with either drug and kinetics were similar for both with regard to initial suppression of the virus. I had read about peaks and troughs with peg intron. He said that was dated info. Ok, so we decided to stay with peg intron. Now...about dosage. Can anyone explain why pegasys is one dose fits all and peg intron is weight based? I will get 80 mcg with weight at 114 lbs.
847050 tn?1240137379 one capsule for stomach, 1 tablet for body ache etc.. with this i m doning my job.. i have two questions: 1. games reduce my stress. can i play bedminton etc? i play it, but people ask me not to do so... 2. i am coping up with side effects, but the thing i m sick of, it Piles..hemmoriods cause a hell of pain for me.. i have this problm since last 10 years. but it was not that much painful before treatmnt..
Avatar n tn My pharmacy tells me that Blue Cross knows that Peg-Intron is an injectable and, therefore, they cannot "adjust" the insurance codes to get a little more for themselves (which means I would pay a little less). Anyone know which codes can be used to stick it to the insurance company so that I can continue sticking without fear of bankruptcy?
29837 tn?1414538248 NM283 is a newer drug that combined with Peg Intron and Ribavirin is supposed to act on non-responders like myself. Naturally, I'm a little hesitant to enroll in this trial without further information, since I've failed three brutal treatments already. Has anyone gone through or anyone know someone who's gone through this NM238 clinical trial? If so, has there been any success or just more torture? Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I am interested in moving my peg-intron shot night from Friday to Sunday now that my kiddos will be back in school. My doc recommended doing it over a couple of weeks (i.e. go to saturday one week and then sunday the next). This sounds reasonable to me but just wanted to see if you guys have been any experience with doing this or have any advice. I guess my biggest concern is that I don't want to risk my peg levels getting too low. Many thanks.
Avatar n tn I chose pegasys but in looking back would prob have gone peg intron. Some say peg-intron works better, not sure I've heard that claim for pegasys (most say they're 'bout the same). Many say peg-intron has worse sides - I don't know on that one. There are studies supporting short treatments for geno 2's and they were based on 12 weeks with peg-intron and 16 weks with pegasys. They also require a higher riba dose than what might be prescribed.
Avatar n tn Anecdotally, people seem to describe the side effects of Pegasys as being not so rough as Peg-intron, but since everyone reacts to these meds a little differently I think it's a tough one to call. If you travel a lot Peg-intron might be the better choice because you can get it in powder form and don't have to worry about refrigeration. I travel a lot though and did Pegasys without any problems. I've heard a lot of people complain about the Peg-intron redi-pen delivery system.
Avatar f tn Sometimes doctors prefer Peg Intron for overweight folks, or sometimes they just want to change the Peg if someone isn't responding as fast as they'd like to current Peg. Or sometimes the Peg Intron rep is just plain better looking than the Pegasys rep.
Avatar f tn 2 weeks ago I started on Peg Intron once a week and Infergen 3 times a week. Is anyone currently on this cocktail? Please respond if you are.
Avatar f tn now my doctor gave me a new drug ... its peg-intron redipen pre-filled pen my question is how long can the device ( peg-intron redipen pre-filled pen ) survive in room temperature??? I think i screwed up somewhere when taking back the medicine to my country ( 10 hours travel ) ... i used ice packs to keep them cold but i went through a lot of custom checks and they have to open the bag ....
442340 tn?1326821017 He uses Pegasys and my GI doctor (whom I love) uses peg-intron. My question for all peg-intron users is how bad have your sx been? The doctor I saw today said pegasys seems to have less sx, but of course not all people react the same way. I love my GI doctor and want to treat with him, but am I making a mistake by going Peg-Intron? Thanks for your input. My stats: 26 years old, really healthy, active female, geno 3a, VL 949,000. No biopsy done Thanks!
Avatar n tn recommend her 80 microgram dose of peg-intron injections with 400mg Virex capsulse. While I have read on Peg-intron literature that its dose is given by weight. For monotherapy use 0.5 microgram/kg/week. For combination therapy 1.5 microgram/kg/week...i think my mother case is combination therapy (injections + capsules). And for 60 kg weight injection dose should be 100 micrograms. Please advise.
Avatar n tn This is why ppl usually get more sides with PEG-Intron. P.S.
