fibromyalgia

939964 tn?1288017024 I was waiting anxiously when I heard this medication was very helpful for fibromyalgia patients, and coming to Canada. To my dismay I had all the side effects mentioned for this medication and was told by my doctor to stop taking it. Like Doctor Rajgopal mentioned about medications, I was given amitriptyline which helps me have a good night sleep and I feel more refreshed when I wake up.
Avatar n tn Here are some of the treatment options - Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the only three drugs approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly.
1023657 tn?1251844941 When used to treat fibromyalgia, it reduced pain in 80% of patients), Low doses of antidepressant medication (improve sleep, decrease pain and eliminate depression). There are a number of alternative therapies that are helpful in relieving the symptoms. One of them is exercise. Fibromyalgia pain is muscle pain and the most important therapy for muscle pain is regular, gentle and low-impact exercise. It keeps muscles conditioned and healthy and decreases the amount of discomfort.
Avatar f tn I also take trazadone. It is an older sleep medication that is taken at bedtime. You and your doctor can decide if taking something would help. To me your top list would be your headaches, not sleeping and pain. If you can deal with foods, digestion and drinking more water on your own and allow the doctors to work with you on the rest you might be able to get a plan of action in place.
1073473 tn?1257840649 Hello jwles, I am sorry you are experiencing numbness and pain. Did you say the numbness only happens when you lay on a limb, or does it happen all of the time? Sometimes numbness can occur with Fibromyalgia. It's a common neurological symptom of Fibro. I have numbness in my left foot due to nerve dysfunction in my spine. My case is somewhat severe in that I have some other co-occurring conditions along with my Fibromyalgia.
Avatar f tn Does anyone who has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia know of the best medication to take to help relieve the discomfort associated with this disease?
Avatar f tn I am going to because the research for the medication will be over in June and I will not be on any medication, they alter you inside, not my style.
1130095 tn?1267369259 Ask your doctor about Topamax. I had daily headaches for years and this is the only thing that has helped. What most likely is happening is your pain is causing the headaches but the pills or some of the pills your taking are causing "rebound headaches" a lot of pain medications do that. I didn't know that for years and I was suffering. Diclofenac comes in a topical form, if that helps see if the doctor will give it to you that way.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with fibromyalgia. dr. gave me lyrica samples and it was like a wonder drug. the pain was minimal and my afternoon exhaustion was gone. i went to fill the prescription and the insurance denied coverage and said it was "experimental". now, my dr. was not 100% certain that it was fibro. he said that i had a lot of sensory issues that made him under sure. i think that is why the insurance denied coverage. soooo, he tried me on gapapinten.
5586759 tn?1370435272 5-HTP supposedly helps produce the serotonin you need which consequently helps produce the melatonin for sleep. I do have problems with quality sleep. I have gone through a sleep study to rule out any sleep apnea or RLS, thank heavens that isn't an issue. I have problems completing the proper sleep cycles people should. Thus my sleep isn't restful enough which does contribute to pain levels.
4861077 tn?1360156139 That helps our sleep arousals, which may not wake you up, but lighter sleep stages wont get you the growth hormone manufacture that is needed for daily tissue repair. Couple of thoughts. Have you honestly reduced your amount of repetitive work yet? Some (a lot) fibro patients are going to have to cut back, perhaps significantly. Standards of cleanliness may take a negative adjustment, and family members will need to pitch in and/or an occasional maid service gets things caught up.
Avatar f tn or could it be a side effect of the medication? If I stopped taking the medication would I be able to put a proper sentence together with fumbling for every word? I don't take anything for pain because I haven't found anything that works for me so I have been taking the sleeping pill for a while because I have to sleep if nothing else.
Avatar f tn My doctor thinks I may have FM or CFS. I am having a test for sleep apnea tonight. I have been prescribed Provigil for the fatigue. My question is this..When you feel 'fatigued' does it affect your mind as well as your body? I know that some of you say your head is 'in a fog'. My head is almost always clear. It seems to be my body that is extremely weak and fatigued; also all of my mucles ache(almost feels as if the bones hurt) all over my body, especially my legs.
Avatar f tn these tender spots sometimes have little nodules under the skin. is this connected with my fibromyalgia?
1075109 tn?1281835691 Anyway, finally I got the right medication which included sleep medication. Not sleeping pills but Clonazapam which helped relax me into sleep because of my Anxiety. So having listened to all of this it should come as no surprise that at 41, with a divorce in the works that I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia that keeps me awake for 36 hours at a time and then I get about 6 hours. Then we go for the 36 hours again. The pain has alot to do with it.
Avatar f tn I also have been told about the link between poor sleep and worse fibro symptoms. However, I have not been told about not napping. In fact, my doctors have actually told me to get sleep when and where I can. For me, sleep is a major problem - it doesn't matter whether I have napped during the day or not, so when I feel that irresistable urge to close my eyes for a few minutes, if at all possible, I do it.
Avatar f tn t have to if they interfere with your sleep. Years ago I took Paxil and it made me sleep and I remember all my pain going away. Noone seemed to care back then as I hadn't been diagnozed with FMS yet. Doctors just said maybe I needed the sleep hence I was sleeping so much. The specialist I rececently told me not to nap at all (that will be hard) and not to consume any food or beverage with caifiene after twelve noon.
675329 tn?1297288378 I think that anyone with fibromyalgia should be screen for obstructive sleep apnea. If you have underlying obstructive sleep apnea, then taking any medication that relaxes your muscles can aggravate the breathing pauses. I would consider undergoing a sleep study.

517902 tn?1314715429 I WOULD SUGGEST SEEING A RHEUMATOLOGIST WITH COMPLAINT OF FIBROMYALGIA. THAT IS THE VERY BEST PLACE TO START. YOU NEED TO BE PLACED ON MEDICATION; NUMBER ONE TO HELP YOU SLEEP SOUNDLY AT NIGHT. IF YOU WAKE UP VERY FATIGUED YOU MIGHT WANT TO ASK ABOUT RESTLESS LEG SYNDROME (RLS) WHICH IS A HORRIBLE THING TO DEAL WITH, AND IF YOU SLEEP ALONE YOU MAY NOT EVEN KNOW THAT YOU HAVE IT. MAJOR PRIORITY IS MEDICATION TO HELP YOU REACH THE DEEP SLEEP LEVEL.
372876 tn?1215129292 I have chronic insomnia. I can only sleep with medication (Lendormin 25mg). If I try to sleep or take a nap without medication I cannot. Sometimes I'm just on the brink of falling asleep when I abruptly become fully alert and experience an uncomfortable feeling throughout my body, particularly the pit of my stomach. I also have very weak legs and aching leg muscles. Anybody know what I can do? The doctors I've seen don't.
