fibromyalgia

193953 tn?1272078626 There is a trade off in using Lyrica, like almost any pain medication. I was taking it for severe arthritis in my spine, which causes numbness and pain down my leg but I was taking a lower dose than my dr wanted. Then I developed trigeminal neuritis, which for a year I believed was due to a bad tooth, and my dr increased my dose. This time I complied, because the pain in my face brought me to my knees. I take 300 mg a day. It makes me feel a little dopey.
193953 tn?1272078626 I tried every pain and neuralgia medication on the market from Neurontin (Gabapentin) to Lyrica and nothing would stop the horrendous burning & tingling that shot through my extremities. The pain was so tremendously bad at one time, that I attempted suicide just for relief. Then recently, I read on the internet that many patients with nerve pain have had success with medical cannabis, or medicinal marijuana and exasperated, I tried it myself.

Avatar n tn Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica. Nobody really knows how these medications treat the symptoms (particularly the aches and pains) of fibromyalgia. These medications can help some individuals with fibromyalgia. But these drugs also have serious side effects.
Avatar n tn Here are some of the treatment options - Lyrica, Cymbalta, and Savella are the only three drugs approved by the U.S. FDA for the treatment of fibromyalgia. Lyrica is an antiseizure medication, while Cymbalta and Savella are antidepressants. All three have been known to reduce the pain of fibromyalgia significantly.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed at the beginning of the year with fibromyalgia. dr. gave me lyrica samples and it was like a wonder drug. the pain was minimal and my afternoon exhaustion was gone. i went to fill the prescription and the insurance denied coverage and said it was "experimental". now, my dr. was not 100% certain that it was fibro. he said that i had a lot of sensory issues that made him under sure. i think that is why the insurance denied coverage. soooo, he tried me on gapapinten.
Avatar m tn One reason many conventional doctors do not think fibromyalgia is a “real” condition is that no specific medication is effective for treating this illness. Some medications do help lower the symptoms of fibromyalgia. These include analgesics such as Tylenol and Motrin. Some doctors will prescribe antidepressant medications, although there are many adverse effects. Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica.
Avatar m tn My Fiance has tried savella which creates severe sweating, Lyrica created nothing but drowsiness and dizziness i read cymbalta is even worse than Lyrica! Is there any treatment for Fibromyalgia you recommend?
Avatar m tn of gabapentin to see if the side effects could be dealt with. I don't want to get back on lyrica. For fibromyalgia I also take xanax and hydrocodone. Things were at least okay, with pain levels and fibro manifestations to deal with, but nothing like this hell. At first, I reached for anti-dizziness meds, but they aren't really much help, plus they swell my prostate for which I have had two operations for enlargement already.
394017 tn?1255018132 Other strategies to minimize fibromyalgia symptoms is to take some form of anti-depressant medication (this works for me. yes, I also have fibromyalgia). Be sure to ask your oncologist about these drugs and probably take some during the course of your treatment. Regards.
Avatar f tn Hi, A combination of Lyrica and Methadone has been found to be effective in controlling Fibromyalgia pain. Methadone may be administered alone without a combination because it is a potent analgesic. It is a narcotic analgesic similar to Morphine. However it is not used commonly for the treatment of Fibromyalgia. It has some serious side effects. Risk of serious side effects may occur even if patient has used other narcotic medications and if the drug is used improperly.

434278 tn?1324709825 The pain across the back of your shoulders is very typical of fibromyalgia. It is not uncommon for lupus patients to also have fibromyalgia. The one thing that seems to help with fibro is sleep. I take a benadryll and a melatonin to help me sleep. I'm not saying that you only have lupus. I was also told that all I had was fibro and deep don I knew I had more than fibro. I know people w/ fibro and they have never been as sick as I was.

462570 tn?1273636577 Hi Tink, Everyone's tolerance to medication is different. Anticonvulsants are often used to treat pain. I am the QUEEN OF ALLERGIC REACTIONS. Lyrica, was not a pleasant experience for me, but has worked for others. My only suggestion to you, if you try something and still experience the same Fibro pains try something else.
986593 tn?1283535811 It really doesn't matter what Lyrica was developed for. What matters is what it is prescribed for. Lyrica reminds me a lot of oxycontin in it's marketing. And it's all about the marketing. I'm not saying Lyrica is as addictive as oxycontin but we don't know the whole story about it yet. The history of oxycontin in Appalachia is a horror story. The FDA approves a drug which is then really tested on the general population.
216046 tn?1193947004 I was just prescribed Lyrica for fibromyalgia pain and take 100mgs of methadone daily for pain as well. Hopefully i can come off the methadone soon. My question is, has anyone heard of lyrica causing withdrawal symptoms when taken w/methadone? I was given Tramadol(Ultram) w/ methadone and thought I was going to die with the interaction it caused!!!
559187 tn?1330786456 I have a question: Is Lyrica an antidepressant? The nice lady in the commercials for fibromyalgia on TV says that "Lyrica is not an antidepressant" but is it or isn't it? I know that it is an anti seizure drug and also that it can be used for neuropathic pain, but are doctors also using it for patients who they believe have depression. I thought I'd put this out to you guys to see what you all think or have experienced with this drug. Thanks a bunch!

I am one of the fortunate ones who can tolerate it.. except during times when I have migraines and/or bad back pain.
Avatar f tn There is no cure for fibromyalgia and management consists of finding an effective combination of lifestyle adjustments, such as regular exercise and healthy diet, and medication therapy. Do consult your doctor before taking any medication. I hope it helps. Good luck!

Avatar f tn If you have a problem please give the pills to someone you can trust to dish them out to you, and if you feel you want to argue with them, stop and meditate how good you future is going to be off this grip of methadone. Be carefull with Lyrica because rarely you can get life threating rashes. Take it easy on Lyrica because it is additive to benzos. Good Luck!
939964 tn?1288020624 You can take Lyrica for the treatment of Fibromyalgia and Diabetic neuropathy. 1100837 tn?1267672275 Hello Leila006, It is not uncommon to have overlapping conditions such as RA and Fibromyalgia. I have Osteoarthritis of the spine, nerve damage and Fibromyalgia, which is different than what you are suffering from, but I have known a lot of people who have had both problems together. I am just guessing from what you have written, that the Lyrica has made you very drowsy...right?
Avatar f tn Hi, I never experienced it myself. I was only on Lyrica for several months and I didn't have any relief from the pain so I dropped it but I did find a web page that stated that it was a side effect problem. This is what it states: "Hair loss (known medically as alopecia) is a rare side effect of Lyrica® (pregabalin). In previous clinical studies, between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people taking Lyrica experienced hair loss.
572651 tn?1531002957 I'm wondering if any of you have experience with Cymbalta or Lyrica.... Why was it prescribed - what symptom was it supposed to work for? how long did it take for it to begin working with your pain? Did you have any problems with side effects? Anything else you can add?
Avatar m tn is there any medication for this disease? There could be various issues that lead to fibromyalgia, in my case I suspect it is because I've chronic hepatitis B infection. So dealing with the casue may be the right thing to do, unfortunately, there is also no cure for chronic hepatitis B.
