Avatar f tn I am also sorry your post wasn't answered a bit sooner. Neurontin is an anti-epileptic medication, also called an anticonvulsant. It affects chemicals and nerves in the body that are involved in the cause of seizures and some types of pain. More and more this is being prescribed for various causes of nerve pain. Also it reportedly is showing success as a ************** option for fibromyalgia symptoms. Neurotin is chemically similar to the drug Lyrica.
1855076 tn?1337118903 I'm just curious if anyone is hearing that Neurontin is being abused? I was given this for nerve pain but couldn't tolerate it as it caused serious slurring of my words to the point people thought I was intoxicated. I also had trouble word-finding on it. But I didn't think it was something anyone abused. (Though I slurred my words, I didn't feel high or intoxicated with it; I sort of felt locked in ... I knew in my head what word I wanted but couldn't get it out.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, and I have severe muscle pain and stiffness. I was wondering if anyone could tell me any kind of medicine that might help? Everything I have tried so far didn't help at all......
Avatar n tn Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica. Nobody really knows how these medications treat the symptoms (particularly the aches and pains) of fibromyalgia. These medications can help some individuals with fibromyalgia. But these drugs also have serious side effects.
Avatar f tn I assume he is referring to fibromyalgia, but I am not certain. I have been treated for anxiety twice and do not feel this is the cause of my symptoms. I also had another Dr. try to treat me with adderall for ADD. I switched drs and none of my current ones feel this is the problem. I would love to here from those of you with fibromyalgia.
8496079 tn?1398416116 I was put on Gabapentin (generic for Neurontin) yesterday by my doctor for my Fibromyalgia Condition in addition to the Norco 7.5/325 I can take up to 4 pills day as needed for the massive pain I'm in.
Avatar m tn One reason many conventional doctors do not think fibromyalgia is a “real” condition is that no specific medication is effective for treating this illness. Some medications do help lower the symptoms of fibromyalgia. These include analgesics such as Tylenol and Motrin. Some doctors will prescribe antidepressant medications, although there are many adverse effects. Anti-seizure drugs are the conventional treatment for fibromyalgia. These include Neurontin and Lyrica.
1130095 tn?1267372859 Look up the link between fibromyalgia and thyroid. I've never heard of any of the other medication you take so I can't comment. Also, as far as the headaches foods, what you drink can bring on headaches. Nuts, cheese, dairy all bring headaches on for me. I too drink a ton of water, that's really good but make sure there isn't anything going on with your blood sugar. Good luck.
Avatar m tn first off, anything u take with neurontin, the neurontin intensifies, it is a medication intensifier, so if u drink with it, u wont need to drink your usual amount. smoke dope? well if your on neurontin, well, you know whats up, lol. but i suggest not do this because it is dangerous. ok, covered the intensifying part, it is an anticonvulsant, which is what it started off as, which is what the purpose of this med was first for. for eppilepsy.
1073473 tn?1257844249 As far as medication goes, and I am no doctor of course, but anti-seizure meds like Lyrica and Neurontin can be very effective for nerve tingling and pain for some people. I take a sister medication called Topamax, which works well for my nerve problems, but this one can also cause tingling too (ironic) when you are first getting used to it. I suggest talking to your doctor about your symptoms especially if it's been awhile since you've been in to see him or her. See what he or she suggests.
Avatar m tn How effective is the drug Topamax in which to treat Fibromyalgia. I am aware it is a drug to treat Epilepsy! Epilepsy is caused by over active shocks of Electricity in the Brain cells! Fibromyalgia is caused by over active nerves throughout the body!
Avatar f tn Hi all- I am a 27 year old female suffering from a very severe case of fibromyalgia. It has left me bed ridden for weeks at a time and when the flare ups are bad nothing works. I have prescriptions for morphine and oxycodone but on bad days they don't touch the pain. I can't do massages because the fibro pressure points are too painful to be touched.
Avatar f tn well just got back from lawyer apt and it didn't go well. It seemed as if he didn't believe in fibromyalgia even though he didn't say that. Said that all my test came back ok that it didn't appear that i have anything wrong with me besides my one seizure on my eeg. And that even if i did win since i don't have enough credits and i have to file for ssi and my husband works that i probably won't recieve much as far as a monthly benefit.
Avatar n tn How many people on this site have been put on neurontin for pain issues, etc? I have done reading on the side effects, withdrawals from this drug and it is scary. I have a whole *hitload of this stuff and have not touched it. Why are we becoming the guinea pigs for many of these drugs that have been on the market for a short time? I just would like some feedback.
432223 tn?1206552625 I have severe peripheral neuropathy in my hands in feet. I am treated with Neurontin, 800 mg. TID, Elavil, 100 mg. at bedtime for the pain which blunts the pain somewhat. I have also had tarsal tunnel release surgery on both legs with little success. In your experience prescribing medications for neuropathy pain management, have you found Lyrica to have better results than the meds I am currently on?
209591 tn?1267418314 Hi, I am a 25 year old female that was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in August along with many other things...I have been staying so tired, some days sleeping more than 15 hours....Just getting out of bed sometimes is almost impossible...For you all what has been the most helpful treatment (exercise, therapy or medication) for your fatigue? All of my medicines cause fatigue and so do all 8 to 10 diagnoses I currently have...Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar n tn I have been taking neurontin for fibromyalgia pain. 600mg daily in 3 doses. It worked pretty good for about 6 mo. It did decrease the pain level I was suffering and I thought I had found a wonder drug. 3 weeks ago I noticed a tremor in my hand every morning. It lasted about an hour and would reappear thru the day. I also became unable to follow a conversation as my memory seemed to be failing. It only got worse from there with problems focusing my eyes, dizzy.
Avatar n tn I was curious about Neurontin. I have been told that this medicine is good for Chronic Pain. I know it is also for use with people that have seizures. Could someone tell me how Neurontin has helped or hurt them. I have been taking it at night 300mg small dose for sleep and Chronic Pain. I dont want to go to a higher dosage until I research more. My doctor says this is a good helpful medicine. I just want to get more input. Thank you very much for your help. Shelly.
Avatar f tn 'm new to this forum, but came across your entry while trying to research Cymbalta vs. Neurontin. I was on Cymbalta (120 mgs) daily for 10+ years until I could not get it refilled due to Medicaid doctor policy. I was forced to stop cold turkey about 9 days ago.
Avatar f tn Please consult an endocrinologist for the same at the earliest because some of these symptoms are serious . . Please try Neurontin and Gabapentin once again after your dose of Armour Thyroid is adjusted because at present that is causing the main side effects . Long term use of Xanax does not cause a more severe addiction than most benzodiazepenes. If you take the medication in a controlled dose , it will not pose a threat for drug dependence .
Avatar f tn These symptoms could be fibromyalgia or could be any number of auto-immune issues. Please see a rheumatologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment.
Avatar f tn Pain all over the body & more severe at specific points Fatigue Sleep difficulties Loss of memory / difficulty in remebering Morning stiffness Muscle knots, cramping, weakness Digestive disorders Itchy/burning skin More urinating frequency Too much intake of water Mental depression It is more severe on the right side from shoulder till the leg possibly because she works with her right hand. It is very difficult to get up from bed during morning.
Avatar f tn I did a little better on Neurontin as far as less weight gain and less laziness, but I switched to a sister-medication known as Topamax. It is an anti-seizure medication just like Lyrica and Neurontin, but it doesn't have the same type of side effects and it helps with the nerve pain and migraines that Fibromyalgia can cause.
Avatar m tn I would like to know what experiences you have on different medications in which to treat Fibromyalgia and what you considered the best without severe side affects. My Fiance has tried savella which creates severe sweating, Lyrica created nothing but drowsiness and dizziness i read cymbalta is even worse than Lyrica! Is there any treatment for Fibromyalgia you recommend?
554442 tn?1221238825 It's a common misconception that fibromyalgia is an inflammatory or rheumatological condition, but it is not. While researchers still have many theories about the mechanisms behind fibromyalgia, many of them now believe the condition is more neurologically based. Aleve (naproxen sodium) and ibuprofen-based drugs (Motrin, Advil) are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and are most effective against pain that accompanies inflammation.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 50 yrs female 1991 was diagnosed with. ankylosing spnondylitis, & sacroiliitis. and I also swear i have fibromyalgia also ..after all my life of pain, it finally was given a 'name' But ever since 5 yrs ago the pain has gotten much worse and so unbearable, have had sciatica few times..and now for 1 1/2 yrs have had the most severe stiff neck that won't let me turn in either direction without pain..which limits my driving due to lack of mobility in my neck.
Avatar f tn I am a 32 year old female from Delaware who was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia 9 years ago.
Avatar n tn However, if there is a painful quality to the sensation then a trial of a neuropathic pain medication would be reasonable. Some of the more common drugs to try include Neurontin (gabapentin) and Elavil (amitryptiline). Good luck.
