Avatar f tn I was recently told by someone that works with fibromyalgia patients that a gluten free diet could lessen my symptoms. Just trying to figure out what has or not has gluten has been confusing and a bit discouraging. But I am willing to try it if it works. Has anyone tried it? What were your results?
470168 tn?1237471245 The diet involves removing all sugar, alcohol, simple carbs from my diet and eating something sensible every 2-3 hours to regulate blood sugar levels. When I keep to this diet I feel well and the symptoms of Fibromyalgia diminish and my blood sugar levels out normal. If I stray off this diet my blood sugar goes up and then my GP starts sending me for blood tests, and repeat blood tests and then glucose tolerance tests.

You should also avoid simple carbs such as white flour, which, along with sugar, is pro-inflammatory and turns to sugar in the system very quickly. Also avoid dairy and wheat, which are also pro-inflammatory.

The diet consists of no sugar allowed, no artificial sugar, no honey etc., no caffeine, no white flour, 5-6 meals a day that consist of 20mg or less of carbs and 10mg or less of protien. The carbs need to be complex carbs. For example; brown rice, triskets, wheat chex, whole grain bread. Drink only water, water with lemon, and herbal teas without caffeine. The protien should be chicken, turkey or fish.

4856774 tn?1360095016 Any injury can worsen fibromyalgia, so yes, a car crash can be a real set back if you have fibromyalgia. However, aches and pains can also be the direct result of an injury from car crash. So, depending on your symptoms this aspect should be investigated. If your symptoms are due to worsening of fibromyalgia only, then the treatment is a mix and match of analgesics, anti depressants, anti seizure medications, physical therapy and counseling. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!

Avatar n tn s the type of carbs. Simple carbs, such as sugar and white flour, metabolize into sugar in your body very quickly and store as fat if not burned very quickly. Complex carbs burn more slowly and provide a long-lasting energy and provide us with our most important nutrients. High protein diets are a current fad, and some of them might one day prove out -- we just have to see what happens when we have a lot of years of people eating this way and see what happens to them.
978175 tn?1304439383 re welcome, Crystalann. Sugar comes in different varieties other than refined table sugar, or in your case, coffeemate. Google simple carbs vs complex carbs. Simple carbs are digested easily thus their sugars enter the bloodstream more quickly resulting in your glucose levels being jacked up. White foods are considered simple carbs; white flour, white bread, crackers, potatoes, pasta, and milk. Also, read the ingredient label carefully on packaged foods.
Avatar n tn that added sugar and fat make up more than 50 percent of the typical American diet and contributes to the obesity epidemic. Craving sweets after a meal can hamper weight loss efforts. You try to deny the craving, only making it more pronounced. If you indulge the craving, stopping with a small serving may be impossible for you.
Avatar f tn Both my husband and I immediately recognised that the change was SUGAR. Since then I have excluded sugar from my diet almost totally and am loosing weight steadily. I am eating a healthy diet, regulating portions and continuing to have a couple of glasses of wine in the evening. So - the questions, is it possible that I have spent the last twenty years struggling with a weight problem that has such a simple explanation? Is there any reason I shouldn't eliminate sugar from my diet?

Avatar f tn In order to fix this my doctor put me on a strict diet of no sugar, no caffeine, complex carbs only (brown rice, beans, whole grain breads, triskets), 5-6 small meals a day that must have at least 20 mg of carbs or less, 10 mg of protein or less (protein must always be half of carbs), veggies, fruit (in small amounts) and 30 min. of mild exercise every day (like walking). The diet and exercise helped but didn't fix the problem. She put me on a medication called metformin.
