I was just diagnosed with lyme disease and will be taking Doxycycline for 30 days. Can anyone tell me if I must avoid dairy entirely or just avoid it a couple of hours before and after taking this antibiotics?

You can take the medication with or without food. I was going to suggest hat you take it with milk but you cannot take it with milk or other dairy products, unless your doctor has told you to. Dairy products can make it harder for your body to absorb the medicine. According to the literature a select few brands of doxycycline may not have restrictions about taking them with dairy products. Any way I would be sure and take the meds with your meals as this should help ease the tummy upset.
Here is a great article about food interactions with drugs sometimes used to treat Lyme and coinfections. I have been on a few of the meds listed in the artIcle, and I was unaware of these conflicts, especially dairy / calcium with the tetracyclines (Doxycycline, Minocycline) & fluroquinolones (Cipro, Avelox, Levaquin).
It also mentions that caffeine, and therefore chocolate, can interfere with some antibiotics, but then doesn't say which ones.

given me for dog bite with allergy to several other meds. have consumed small amounts of dairy. there is 5 more days of the med to be taken. it seems to be working despite consuming the small amounts of milk/cheese. will avoid it for 2 hours from the dose. is there anything else i need to do. thank you!
ve heard eating yogurt can help fight it, but what about dairy free yogurt? Would eating one container of dairy free yogurt help? I have an allergy to dairy, I looked online and found "so delicious" yogurt which is dairy free. Has anyone tried this or know if this would help me? Is it bad if I have one thing of the yogurt while on the doxycycline hydate medication? My doctor said I could stop taking it after a week if i didn't feel better at all (which I might do).
I had sex with my girlfriend within the time frame of me receiving oral and feeling the onset of symptoms I then went into a walk-in clinic where the physician diagnosed me with doxycycline for 7 days. I felt as if they were working and by the end of the 7 days felt normal. About 5 days later I felt the pain in my restocked, groin, lower abdomen and lower back return.
I got a rash on the back of my neck back in December. It got worse and spread. I was put different medications. The first med was Fluocinolone Acetonide Body Oil the end of December. It didn't work. The next script was for Doxycycline Monohydrate 100mg Tabs and Cetirizine 5mg Tablets for one month this was in January. That didn't work. Then they did a biopsy and said it was Eczema. I was told to use Triamcinolone 0.1% Ointment 454gm. This was end of January.
The first couple of months of my pregnancy I couldn't get enough dairy but then dairy would cause vomiting almost immediately after consumption. I am six months now and am very limited on dairy. I was at the doctors today and he said a lot of pregnant women go through this and to make sure to get calcium by other means.

Omg me! I've never had a problem with dairy. With my other three kids I was fine with it but for some reason I get really nauseous and an ugly taste with even a little dairy.

Hello, I was tested positive with clymida and was given a 7 day course of doxycycline and I was retested a week after and came back negatice. My bf started his course of doxycycline the week i did my retest that came back negative, he finished his course of doxycycline 4 days ago. We haven't had intercourse but we did have oral sex today, would we be re-infected?
The doctors prescribed me 10 days (2 100 Mg pills a day) of doxycycline. I was only able to take 9 days because at this point I could not keep food down. I have tried everything. Prunes, vinegar, laxatives, enemas, magnesium citrate, probiotics, eliminating wheat, gluten, soy, dairy and everything else imaginable. The bouts are now becoming consecutive. The images have shown that the stool is stuck up in the upper part of the large intestine so it is not coming down. I am beyond miserable.
I was diagnosed with gonorrhea and received a shot (don't know which kind) on December 13th, started Doxycycline the next day, once a day for 7 days ending on the 20th. So that's 7 days after after receiving the shot. I had unprotected sex 4 days after finishing the pills, which is also 7 days after the shot. Is my partner at risk for gonorrhea? I went to a urologist and he prescribed me doxycycline and did a swab test and checked my prostate with an ultrasound machine (atleast that's what i think it was) and everything was normal. After a week i came back and the swab test was negative, but the doctor prescribed me doxycycline again for a week just in case. The symptoms disappeared, however after 1 or 2 weeks they started coming back and now, a month after, the discharge is white again and the urination is uncomfortable.
