My 13-year-old daughter has just been placed on Doxycycline by a Dermatologist. She is displaying puffy eyes and tightness in her chest or possibly throat, she cannot localize it exactly. She has known allergies to Amoxicillin and Sulfa, can these be related.
Can we just give him the doxycycline 100mg once a day instead because the medication may cause nausea/vomiting. Also after 3 weeks medication, how do you he is treated ? Any advice !
After the doxycycline in liquid form my dog has been vomiting constantly. He can’t seem to swallow comfortably anymore. Even water seems to be a problem. His breath is very acidic. I tried to give him food through the syringe but he vomits everything, even after water. I gave him subq to keep him hydrated.
Vomiting blood is an emergency. I do hope he's been to the vet since you wrote this note. Did the vet mention any possibilities the last time you took him in? Can you get more medication for his stomach? If the med helped before, perhaps that's the answer then - a problem in the stomach. But they'll have to do more testing to determine the exact cause and I hope, cure it.
Is it OK if I have a few beers while I'm taking Doxycycline 100mg twice a day? I'm not getting wasted or anything, I just want to have a few with the guys this Friday.

My memory is vague on all the information, but I was prescribed Doxycycline for 7 days. The symptoms got much better and my urine cleared up. Fast forward a couple months and I began to have the symptoms again, but minus the blood in my urine, at least visibly. I took Doxycycline for 10 days to treat a sinus infection. A week after finishing the Doxy I developed a sore throat and sore tongue. I'm assuming it is a reaction to the drug. How long will this stay in my system and is there anything I can take to alleviate the reaction?

She developed a circular rash and fever in late June 2009. Doctor suspected ehrlichiosis, prescribed 30-day doxycycline. My mom also did lyme test right after the rash and fever, that came back negative. After just a few days doxycycline treatment, she does not have any symptom. Then in October, I want to make sure, she did a lyme test again although she does not have any symptom, but that came back positive.
On that day, however, I got really sick. Severe nausea/vomiting, lack of appetite and energy, and very bad fever. This only lasted one day; I didn't take the Bactrim that evening because I suspected a bad reaction, and I felt fine by noon of the following day. However, I noticed that the pain in my nipple was pretty much gone that day. I didn't touch the Bactrim again and the pain was gone for about a week, until about 8/20. It then started to come back.
I think it is fluid retention. My stomach is bloated also. I am also on doxycycline and dexamethosone. Is the fluid retention normal, esp the abdominal bloating? I also had nausea and vomiting this morning, but not sure if that is related to starting the follistim or due to not eating before taking the steroid and antibiotic. Anyone care to share the effects the meds had on them? Guess I am just looking for reassurance that this is normal.
Doxycycline nearly always causes nausea in dogs, and often vomiting. However, it is a very effective antibiotic.
Has he finished the antibiotic course already?
If so, then it would be a good idea if you can feed him some natural "Live" yogurt (unflavoured) daily for a few days until you see any improvement, as this will act as a pro-biotic, replacing natural gut bacteria which will have been wiped out by the long antibiotic course. This will help his digestive balance.
While taking doxycycline for suspected Lyme disease (which I did not have), I developed a number of sensitivities that have not abated totally after 3 years. While taking the drug I became nauseated and would retch violently. These symptoms have diminished but still occur.
Initially I would begin retching when I first woke up and at dinner times. If I got hungry and began to have hunger pains,I would start to retch.
I also discovered that oatmeal seems to exacerbate the problem.
Three weeks later the testicular pain (no discharge still) came back and I rushed back to the clinic, I was given a swab test,shot of rocephin, and doxycycline. The doxycycline made me very nauseous and caused me severe vomiting. I discontinued the use of it and was given levofloxacin. Meanwhile, the std swab tests came back negative. I didnt take the levofloxacin, because I wasn’t sure if I even needed it since I havent been properly diagnosed. I made an appointment with an actual Doctor.
Has anyone else had this disease, and did it give you stomach pains, like sharp cramps?

This is day 9 of having flu like symptoms - during this time I have had severe headache, fever, dizziness, body aches everywhere, vomiting, diarrhea, night sweats, chills, weakness. The Dr. said it is the Crud and gave me a shot of concentrated Ibuprofen and Promethazine 25 mg to treat the symptoms. They did nothing to help. Aspirin would bring my temperature down form 104 to 102. On Day 7 I began to get better with a temperature of only 101 and less headache.
