Avatar n tn You should look for a Lyme specialist or Neurologist who knows about Lyme Disease.
984138 tn?1359813073 doxycycline is what they treat you with for lyme right? But anywho should i take it? Avatar f tn This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088. Doxycycline, like other tetracycline-class antibiotics, can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman.
Avatar f tn Medications come with side effects, especially at the higher doses as we are sometimes prescribed for Lyme. Does not always mean you are having a herx!!!
Avatar n tn I have lyme disease and for 4 months have not been able to go to sleep till 2, 3 or even 7 in the morning. When I finally do get to sleep i sleep till 3 in the afternoon, and i don't sleep soundly anymore. I am currently on doxycycline for lyme and ondansetron for nausea from the doxy. My sleeping still hasn't gotten any better, I was given lorazepam by my doctor, and went to the health store for melatonin.
4939681 tn?1361299299 Thank you for that link. And a sarcastic thank you to the FDA for FINALLY putting that warning out! Since at LEAST 2001 people have had terrible and long-lasting and sometimes horrible side-effects from the use of those drugs. I don't know if people here remember the anthrax scares after 9-11 when several high officials were sent anthrax in envelopes. "Tuesday, September 18, 2001, one week after the September 11 attacks.
255738 tn?1230233362 I was diagnosed a year and a half ago with Lyme disease after three months of flu-like symptoms and severe knee and foot pain. Finally, after several tests and an expensive MRI, I was diagnosed. I was put on doxycycline and had a severe reaction to that, so then they put me on a different medication. My pain still didn’t go away for good. I still had bouts of pain and fatigue that last weeks. I was seeking something to help regain my life to be able to do things for myself.
554044 tn?1215314691 However, one of our number is having problems which we cannot really address. She is convinced she has Lyme disease and wishes to try Doxycycline at 500mg doze but has hit a brick wall. Jenny lives in Canterbury, Kent, and her Neurologist has diagnosed her as having both MS and Parkinsons. Her GP is annoyed at Jenny's refusal to take any of the MS drugs and dismisses the possibility of Lyme disease out of hand.
Avatar f tn I am not medically trained, but I would not think that your immune system has simply reacted to the presence of doxycycline (since the doxy would not try to kill off your immune system), *but* if the doxy is killing Lyme bacteria, then you could be experiencing the side effects from die-off by the Lyme, in which toxins from the Lyme bacteria are released into the human body and cause feeling quite lousy.

Avatar f tn I then went to a lyme specialist. He went over my symptoms and tested me for lyme disease. The test came back negative. He wanted to start me on doxycycline to see if this helped my condition. Prior to seeing the lyme specialist I started having more pain in my hands and feet. I also have terrible muscle pain I think because of inflammation in the body. The doxycycline has helped take away the terrible pain in my hands and feet. It has also helped with my reactive hypoglycemia.
Avatar f tn Better post this on the Lyme forum. I am not a doctor, but I have Lyme disease, and those were some of my symptoms and still are. It doesn't have to be Lyme, but I know the symptoms are similar. Any tick bites? Where do you live (not that it matters much). I tested negative for Lyme by three conventional labs. I had to have my bloodwork sent to a specialty lab and I was clearly positive - after 3 years of searching for a diagnosis. Come on over to the Lyme forum if you like!
Avatar m tn Amoxicillin is NOT the treatment for Lyme Disease.......All Tick diseases are treated with Doxycycline or a Tetracycline...You need a second opinion & I'd do it tomorrow if possible.......
Avatar f tn Sounds like it's lyme related to me, lyme disease is known to cause skin sensations like "tingly" feelings although i've never read about one like you have. I don't want to scare you - but that sounds like it could also be related to a co-infection you received during the tick bite. However, symptoms can still develop while on doxycycline treatment as i've also had many new symptoms develop while on it.
Avatar f tn Welcome to MedHelp Lyme! Not exactly a party kind of event, but it has its own good aspects ... like getting rid of Lyme! Good for you for plowing ahead. I'm not medically trained, but from what I read, doxycycline (doxy for short) can be quite effective against a Lyme infection ... BUT only if the infection is diagnosed fairly soon.
Avatar f tn m not sure if I should continue the antiobiotics just in case I am showing Lyme symptoms or if I am reacting to side effects of the antiobiotic. Very Confused. I can't get in to see my family Dr. unitl June 8th as she is SO booked up. Any input welcome!!!!
Avatar m tn TXLDA is the short name for Texas Lyme Disease Association, and they can likely give you names of Lyme specialists near you. ---------------------------------------------------------------- As to cost of the tests and doctor visits, your insurance may cover much of it, or if you don't have insurance, then ask TXLDA (see above) and also go online at ILADS [dot] org for MDs or organizations who may be able to assist you financially. Best wishes to you!
Avatar f tn He was tested for Rickettsia (RMSF and related illnesses), ehrlichiosis and Lyme Disease. All tests came back NEGATIVE. The only abnormality was in band 39 on the Lyme test. I understand you need to have 2 abnormal bands to be Lyme + according to CDC. However, I read that band 39 is THE MOST SPECIFIC for the Lyme bacteria. Doesn't this imply a +Lyme antibody test, despite the CDC definition? I hear false negatives are common in Lyme. Are they also common in RMSF?
Avatar f tn , the state and local medical boards disagree with the way Lyme is treated by Lyme specialists and other docs who understand Lyme. The Centers for Disease Control in Washington DC (your Federal tax dollar at work!) have a firm position that Lyme (and even its co-infections, apparently) is rare, hard to get, and easy to cure with a couple weeks of doxycycline antibiotics.
Avatar m tn I had Lyme disease 10 years ago, and had 2 months of doxycycline. The symptoms gradually went away over the next 6 months. My western blot and ELISA Lyme disease blood tests are still positive, even though I do not have symptoms. Do I still have Lyme disease? An allergy doctor I had been seeing last year told me I still have Lyme disease, and he said that's why my allergy is bad. He convinced me to take antibiotics again, but the blood tests are still positive.
