984138 tn?1359813073 doxycycline is what they treat you with for lyme right? Odd thing but my gyno called me in that medicine for a common thing probaly yeast infection... i just talked to the recpetionist not the actual doctor because it was very minor she said. But anywho should i take it? Obviously i should but should i take it when im a positive for lyme but have no LLMD yet and my ID just got back to work today so shes catching up with everyhting and havent looked at my results yet.
Avatar n tn Two weeks later a large infected rash appeared. I got myself tested for Lyme and it came out negative. I was given a day of Doxycycline and then it was changed to Amoxicillan. I took it for two weeks. The doctor told me to stop the medication and get retested. Two weeks later, I got my positive results. I had, at this point, two weeks on, two weeks off the antibiotics. When I returned to the doctor with positive results, he put me back on Doxycycline for another two weeks.
Avatar f tn In your situation, I would find a different MD for a fresh look at your history and symptoms. Doxycycline works in the very earliest stages of Lyme, but even if you saw a recent tick/tickbite before you were started on Lythe meds, it's quite possible that you could have been bitten and gotten Lyme months or years before that: the ticks are so tiny that they can be impossible to see, esp. if on the scalp or other places where they just don't show up.
Avatar f tn i had lyme disease and was treated for 14 days with doxcylone. I was never retested to see if it was gone and now I have pain in left side of my head with some numbness running into my cheek and forehead---should I have been retested?
Avatar n tn Doxycycline ("doxy") is often used to treat Lyme and other tickborne illness. It was prescribed for me, but due to some other problems, I have not tried it. It can be hard on some people's digestive systems, but that doesn't happen to everyone, and I think it's considered one of the more effective treatments. I don't think it matters whether the infection is new or not; doxy is still effective if tolerated, so I have read. Another good question for your MD.
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Doxycycline before for Lyme. It always came as a blue capsule. Today when I picked up a new prescription, it came in the form of an apricot-colored tablet. I called the pharmacy to check with them that I was receiving the same thing and the pharmacist answered that it was Doxycycline. Is there any difference with absorption or anything else that I would have always received blue capsules and now are getting this tablet instead?
9258519 tn?1404468525 guidelines here say 2-3 weeks (usually 3) for early Lyme and 4 weeks for late Lyme. ILADS guidelines say to take it a bare minimum of 4 weeks as Lyme bacteria have a 4 week cycle. Many will treat even longer as there are treatment failures even at 4 weeks. For late stage Lyme, a patient usually needs months or even years of treatment. Twelve days is probably just enough to stir up the bugs and make them mad.
Avatar f tn I wonder how many people's Doxycycline treatment for an EM rash failed because they didn't know about avoiding dairy and calcium when taking each dose?!
Avatar f tn Just as a reminder, there are many areas in the country where state and local medical boards insist on MDs following the CDC approach to Lyme diagnosis and treatment, which is a couple of weeks of doxycycline and you're good to go, and any continuing symptoms are simply your immune system over-reacting to a now-gone infection. No, no, no!
Avatar f tn s made from colostrum. Chisolm Biological Laboratories has different formulas. There is one or more for viruses, one for lyme, one for mycoplasma infections, etc. There are other companies who sell similar products on the internet, but Chisolm is the originator and more potent and specific. Only a licensed professional can purchase the products from Chisolm-you cannot purchase them from the internet. They are expensive however-about $140 for 30 pills and they are kept in the freezer.
Avatar n tn I was just diagnosed with lyme disease and will be taking Doxycycline for 30 days. Can anyone tell me if I must avoid dairy entirely or just avoid it a couple of hours before and after taking this antibiotics? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have been on doxycycline for Lymes for 7 weeks now. I have noticed a discomfort in my chest. It does not increase with activity. I notice it when I lean forward. It is intermittent. I have no medical insurance so I cannot go for more tests. Is this a symptom of my Lymes disease?? I am a runner and have had heart testing and was told I had a strong heart.
Avatar f tn t leaving until it was removed and a nurse flushed a dead rotten tick out with a water pick! I was then tested for Lyme and came back positive for Lyme and erlichiosis. I switched drs of course, he proceeded to tell me mo. Had no Lyme disease, he tested me again... Positive! I was put on 6 weeks of doxycycline. That was in 2001 and I have never recovered and am on disability and STILL being told I never had Lyme disease!!!! HELP!!
Avatar n tn Last tests were positive for Mono (which I had when I was 17) and Lyme Disease. Started on three weeks of doxycycline. Lots of questions: Is it very likely to have so few symptoms with Lyme Disease? Are hypertension and tachycardia common symptoms of Lyme? Is it possible that I've had it since February without more symptoms and without worsening? Have any of you had Mono and Lyme at the same time? Are false positives common in this type of situation?
Avatar f tn Below is copied from Dr Burrascano's treatment guidelines for Lyme (posted on the ILADS website), including an entry on doxycycline [aka doxy] dosage: "Adults: 200 mg bid [meaning twice a day] with food; doses of up to 600 mg daily are often needed, as doxycycline is only effective at high blood levels." So perhaps your doc's doses are on the light side -- I'd ask him, but sometimes docs get huffy. I'd ask him anyway. It's your health we're talking about.
Avatar m tn My St. Bernard was diagnosed with Lyme Disease Monday evening. She was limping for a few days and then it stopped and came back. We gave her an aspirin and it made her very sick, so we took her to vet and the the vet did a blood test that came back positive for Lyme. He gave us Amoxacilin and a med to settle her stomach. My problem is this, She is limping much worse today then she was on Monday. She is eating but not as much previous to Lyme.
Avatar f tn If the UK physicians follow that same approach (as it sounds they may), then finding an ILADS physician is important, to test both for Lyme disease and for possible co-infections and then to know how best to treat any infections present. The variety of infections the tick carry often need different antibiotics for each one.
Avatar n tn I was treated twice with Doxycycline (2 mos.) for the Lymes but the treatment did not work and the doctors suspected that I may not have Lupus but had Lymes the entire time. In July 2009, a year later, I was tested and the IGM Lymes test was again positive. The neurologist confirmed I have Lymes Disease but told me that it should have showed up on the IGG test and not the IGM test because of the length of time I have had Lymes. Now I have numerous questions. 1.
Avatar m tn Recent lyme diagnosis. On day 5 of taking doxycycline developed red, pinpoint extremely itchy rash all over body. Doctor had me stop medication and detox. Now day 3 off meds and still have very uncomfortable rash all over. Could this be allergic reactions to doxycycline or a herx? Is it hard to tell the difference? Thank you for your insight.
Avatar m tn Because of this, doxycycline (400 mg daily) remains the preferred antibiotic for treatment of Lyme neuroborreliosis. For patients for whom treatment fails, minocycline may be a therapeutic option [footnote omitted]. "Minocycline may permit a shorter duration of treatment in Lyme neuroborreliosis than high dose oral doxycycline because of its excellent CNS penetration [footnote omitted].
Avatar f tn This doctor did think that there was a small possiblity I may have Lyme and put me on a 4 weeks course of 200mg Doxycycline per day as well as taking blood for testing. I took the Doxycycline for 2 weeks then stopped after receiving an email from the doctor saying that my blood results were clear. 2 days later he emailed me back to say that I had the Lyme antibodies in my blood so I restarted the course. My headache disappeared whilst on the course but the muscular pain persisted.
Avatar m tn Hello all I am a 21 year old male who has had troubling symptoms for the past 8 years. I have tested for lyme at least 3 times. I think the test was Lyme AB (EIA) Screen. Not sure where they sent blood to. I know you guys favor Igenix. Anyway because I wasn't getting better my doctor recently decided to put me on an antibiotic called minocycline. I was wondering if say Lyme presented itself when i was 12-13 would it still be treatable by such a drug? I take 50mg two times a day.
Avatar f tn Sounds like it's lyme related to me, lyme disease is known to cause skin sensations like "tingly" feelings although i've never read about one like you have. I don't want to scare you - but that sounds like it could also be related to a co-infection you received during the tick bite. However, symptoms can still develop while on doxycycline treatment as i've also had many new symptoms develop while on it.
Avatar f tn s better to go to a Lyme specialist, in my experience, and if you go to the ILADS website (short for International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society), there is a referral function to help you find a Lyme specialist near you. Let us know what you do and how it goes, okay? Take care!
Avatar m tn Yes, I would take my child to be treated further. The problem is that your current doc certainly believes that s/he has done what is appropriate, and getting them to prescribe something you read about online is difficult at best. Amoxicillin may or may not be the right medication against Lyme, and there is also the concern that maybe half of ticks carrying Lyme also carry other diseases that are not treatable by the same meds that Lyme is.
