Doxycycline dosage in lyme disease

Common Questions and Answers about Doxycycline dosage in lyme disease

Avatar f tn We were not given doxycycline because we had had symptoms for quite a while, and once Lyme burrows in, doxy often isn't terribly effective. However, Lyme often has companion infections that do respond to doxycycline, so it does have its place. There are other antibiotics that treat additional infections, so there are ways to deal with the whole mess. What really matters is THE DOC.

Avatar m tn Amoxicillin is NOT the treatment for Lyme Disease.......All Tick diseases are treated with Doxycycline or a Tetracycline...You need a second opinion & I'd do it tomorrow if possible.......
Avatar m tn You can go to -- ILADS [dot] org -- and click on the 'physician referral' button, in addition to any personal recommendations you may receive here. ILADS is the main voluntary group for MDs who treat Lyme and its co-infections in a more 'progressive' manner ... as in something more than a couple weeks of doxycycline regardless of symptoms and test results. Let us know how we can help -- we've all been where you are. You go!
Avatar f tn .... [continued from above] So that says there are different way to treat, both in kind of meds taken and in dosage. If it were I, I would definitely ask about the dosage: "Dr, I was doing some reading and saw that 200 miligrams of doxycycline is at the bottom of the scale. Can it be given in higher doses? I'm so ready to get well!" Then smile gently and see what the doc says.
Avatar n tn I had the same problem as you and I finished my 28 day treatment and still had migraines even though my tests after treatment came back negative. Months later the Lyme Disease came back in my spinal fluid not in my blood and caused a brain infection. Now I deal with neurological and cardiac problems so don't take it lightly. Migraines are not normal and you may still have the infection. You should look for a Lyme specialist or Neurologist who knows about Lyme Disease.
Avatar f tn It is well recognized that some patients have various subjective complaints after treatment for Lyme disease [5–7]. In our experience as infectious disease clinicians, many (and perhaps most) patients with systemic infectious diseases complain of fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, and various body aches well after cure of their infection. However, such complaints are not an appropriate indication to continue or reinitiate therapy for an infection that is otherwise cured.
984138 tn?1359813073 however other antibiotics are often used by LLMDs, often in combination because of the peculiar way Lyme can hide in the body. Also, if you have a coinfection as yet undiagnosed (a disease other than Lyme that comes from the Lyme ticks), then other antibiotics or combinations of antibiotics or medications may be called for. I am not attempting to contradict your MD or give you advice other than what your MD is prescribing, but just want to give you another view.
Avatar n tn How long was your longest treatment and was it treated with doxycycline? If so, how many mgs a day? One of the girls in my office was recently treated with 1000 mgs. a day of doxycycline - having had three relapses myself I was never treated with that much. I think I will go to a lyme's specialist or infectious disease dr. Any opinions?
Avatar m tn This is fascinating to me, as Infectious Disease doctors will not treat a Lyme patient with doxycycline for more than a month. They say long term antibiotics are dangerous and risky. The other interesting thing on the CDC website is where they say: "Coxiella burnetii has the ability to persist for long periods of time in the host after infection.
Avatar f tn If I had known I could have shown them. No doubt in my mind now that it was Lyme Disease and I also wondered if another test is carried out will that be affected by the doxcycline it have taken.
Avatar f tn from Pub Med "to treat Lyme disease, cefuroxime is taken twice a day for 20 days.

Avatar f tn He also had shaking, muscle spasms. She took him to the vet and he was positive for lyme disease. He is on Doxycycline for 30 days, then will retest for the lyme. She said he looks and seems to feel terrible.... vet gave her pain pills for him too. Interesting..... people get brushed off, ..... At least the poor animals who have no voice get treated!! Best wishes and healing to all!
Avatar f tn The Centers for Disease Control in Washington DC (your Federal tax dollar at work!) have a firm position that Lyme (and even its co-infections, apparently) is rare, hard to get, and easy to cure with a couple weeks of doxycycline antibiotics. Any remaining symptoms are attributed to your overactive immune system causing problems, and the CDC clings to this idea regardless of findings made frequently regarding Lyme and the misery that it is.
Avatar n tn he referred me to my GP doctor. I have an appointment with my GP next week. Do you think I could have Lyme disease from the tick, and if so - are my current symptoms consistent with Lyme? I'm desparate; the pain is bad - and Aleve/Advill, etc. are no relief. Please help!
Avatar f tn I was sooo worried so I asked the Dr. to take my blood. a few days later (today) she calls me and said its Lyme Disease. I have no rash or anything that I can see that can be a "tick bite" but she says sometimes the bite and u feel and see nothing from it... the tests to determine this was an ELISHA TEST and a WESTERN BLOT TEST. same tests used for HIV. could it be at all possible that I could have HIV and not Lyme disease and they were diagnosed wrong?
594002 tn?1256303782 I was diagnosed with Lyme in August 2008. Over the last few weeks I have been feeling better.. I mistakenly forgot to take my night dose of doxy and then the next morning ran late with meetings and did not take next dose until afternoon. I have to say I felt better during that time than I have in a long time. About half hour after taking Doxy I felt the shaking, neck pain, nervousness again..
1138687 tn?1548643978 s only what your doctor will give, grab it and run to a doctor who is a specialist in treating Lyme. (We call them an LLMD, just a patient conferred nickname for Lyme Literate Medical Doctor. I see you're in Vermont. I'll send you a private message which will give you the links to sites that MAY be able to provide you with an LLMD. This site here has strict rules about not sending some links in the public area and I don't want to break any rules. Did I read you right?
14012411 tn?1432508856 Sorry to hear all you have been through and still are going through -- I'm not medically trained, but given your history, I would find a Lyme specialist for a review of your past tests (if you have copies) and to take a new look at your history and current symptoms.
Avatar f tn A healthy, well balanced diet will help anyone, any time. Many people with Lyme will restrict sugar and some doctors tell their patients that. The established way (by hundreds of doctors who treat Lyme) is antibiotics. If you have other symptoms because of allergies, gluten sensitivity or so forth, then a diet to exclude certain foods is a good idea. Are you being treated for Lyme disease now? Your post didn't indicate whether you are or not.
