Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ureaplasma parvum. I was prescribed doxycycline for 2 weeks but the symptoms persisted. The doctor gave me 1 gr of Azythromicin as a single dose. I repeated the test 3 days after I took the antibiotic and it came negative but I still feel the infection is not gone. Is it possible to get false negative result because of the antibiotic? The doctor told me that PCR is a very accurate but I have my doubts.
Avatar m tn My nurse told me I have ureaplasma and I'm sort of freaking out. How serious is this? She found that I had it after doing a vaginal swab culture but this is the first time I've ever had one of those done, so I feel like I may have had ureaplasma for years. She told me to tell any partners I've had to get treated, but if I contracted it when I was 16 or 17, how awkward would it be to go back and tell partners from years and years ago that they should get tested for ureaplasma??
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Ureaplasma urealyticum tens days ago, before that, I had never had any symptom other than a tiny itchy inside the top of my urethra during this years, all my STD test turn out to be negative except for Ureaplasma urealyticum erine test. So my doctor give me doxycycline for 14 days dose. But today, after I pissed, at the end of my ****, I noticed some discharge, it is kind of transparent liquide very viscous, kind of like the semen.
Avatar f tn She did some test and the UTI came back inconclusive but prescribed me doxycycline in case, but suggested I also the next morning be tested for a couple of other things, Chlamydia, Ureaplasma etc. Over the next few days the pain persisted and I ended up going to the hospital in which they diagnosed me as having a UTI, gave me a dose of painkillers and a general UTI antibiotic and told me to stop taking the doxycycline. After that the symptoms seem to clear up.
Avatar n tn Symptoms persisted for several days. Called dr. back. He called in a prescription for doxycycline for my husband and he started taking it. Never had any relief of symptoms. I started having redness, swelling, burning pain in my vagina and vulva. DR. did a vaginal swab culture. It came back with heavy growth of Gardnerella. STD tests negative for gonorrhea, chlamydia, trich, herpes, and HPV. Took one dose of metrogel.
Avatar m tn Sorry Doctor. I take on board your comments. I probably need to be clearer, the STD panel test was taken last week before this incident yesterday hence the need to re-test for Chlamydia and Ghonnoreah in a couple of weeks.
Avatar m tn About 1 1/2 years ago I had sex with a girl and within a few days I was experiencing burning during urination and oozed disharge when pushing out poo. Went to doc and was tested for Chlamydia/Gonorrhea, test came back negative. Doc said symptoms were possibly because of Ureaplasma/Mycoplasma. I believe it was Azithromycin he prescribed, and the symptons went away. Fast forward to today. I had sex with my girlfriend a week ago.
Avatar n tn these have been giving me symptoms of frequent urination, irritation in the urethra i have heard of a few people having this for quite sometime and had every test possible only for a urologist to tell them he was testing them for Ureaplasma and she was positive and certain antibiotics cleared this. given the fact ive had the same symptoms as this person it does fit this is what i have as i have the same symptoms now as i did when i had the infections?
Avatar m tn If cervical cultures for ureaplasma and mycoplasma are positive, both the patient and her sexual partner are usually treated with antibiotics such as doxycycline. As these bacteria may have been present for many years without causing any symptoms, the finding of ureaplasma and mycoplasma on cervical cultures does not in any way indicate infidelity or sexual misconduct.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with Ureaplasma urealyticum ten days ago, before that, I had never had any symptom other than a tiny itchy inside the top of my urethra during this years(bother me for one year, because it is difficult to define the itchy feeling), all my STD test turn out to be negative except for Ureaplasma urealyticum urine test. So my doctor gave me doxycycline for 14 days dose.
Avatar m tn Without further DNA testing, I doubt you will know what type of ureaplasma was detected. The drug of choice for ureaplasma infections is a macrolide antibiotic. The best choice being azithromycin. Doxycycline is less effective, but if it's helping, that's good news. If you continue to have problems, ask your doctor about treatment with a macrolide such as azithromycine or erythromycin.
Avatar m tn My recommendation is it wait a couple of weeks since taking your antibiotics, do not have sex with anyone, and then test for Ureaplasma, Mycoplasma and Trichomonas. And here's some copy/paste info for you: Tests are available through LabCorp, they are often not covered by insurance. Mycoplasma/Ureaplasma, Real-Time PCR http://www.labcorp.com/datasets/labcorp/html/chapter/mono/vm003300.htm Number 138778 CPT 87801 Trichomonas vaginalis, Nucleic Acid Amplification (NAA): http://www.
Avatar m tn I think the test name was “The Big 10”, meaning they test for the 10 most common STIs. It was this test that was positive for ureaplasma. With that I saw a urologist who has treated me with doxycycline 100mg 2x daily. His opinion is that a very large percentage of the population has this infection and it makes up the normal flora in most men and women even stating that in all likelihood he probably had it (I thought that was humorous).
Avatar f tn I though may be its due to that sickness but after i recoverd i checked with doc where he did all std together test and found ureaplasma pervum...he gave doxycycline antibiotic for 15 days but now i still feel pain in penis.. 1.this issue is dangrous for pregnancy of my wife 2.any issue for mu sperm quality 3.
Avatar m tn I would really appreciate your advice. I have always suffered from frequent bouts of cystitis but 2 months ago came down with a horrible flare that has rendered me bedridden. I have urethral, bladder, pelvic and vulvar pain. It particularly hurts when my bladder is full and when I urinate but I don't so much have urgency and frequency. Finally I was checked and tested positive for ureaplasma urealyticum on DNA swab (clear for absolutely everything else).
Avatar m tn I have tried single dose azithromycin and doxycycline 2x/day for 24 days with no improvement. My doctor recently prescribed me bactrim. I suspect that this may be caused by persistent ureaplasma and/or mycoplasma. Will the Bactrim treat this? If no should I test for ureaplasma/mycoplasma? What antibiotic should I take?

Avatar f tn If this is not the usual bacterial infection, based on urine cultures that are clear, this could be a urethritis with an atypical organism like ureaplasma or mycoplasma. The best treatment for these usuaual organisms is cipro 500mg twice daily or doxycycline 100 mg twice daily. If that doesn't clear it up, this could be a structural problem and you need a pelvic exam and look into your urethra by a Urologist who can diagnose a urethral diverticulum or bladder problem.
Avatar f tn Recently I switched doctors and went to a female gynocologist who diagnosed me with ureaplasma/mycoplasma. I was given doxycycline to take for 7 days and told that the symptoms would go away. However the symptoms have not gone away & I still have the daily discharge and the occasional sour odor. Most times there is no itching just the white discharge, however when the discharge turns yellow the odor is also present & then there is a slight itch. What can I do about this?
Avatar n tn i had been infertile for years, 10 to be exact. i was tested for ureaplasma, which came back positive. both my husband and i were treated and within one month we were pregnant with our first child. three years later, we decided we wanted another child. without being retested, my doctor prescribed us the same medication and with 6 months we had achieved pregnancy number two. anyone who has been diagnosed with unexplained infertility, please ask your doctor to test for UREAPLASMA.
Avatar m tn Just recently, I went to a new urologist and he finally ran some tests for mycoplasma and ureaplasma (I know there is some controversey about these but...) in any event, a test finally came back positive for something, ureaplasma! Finally something came up! So, the doctor prescribed me 10 days of azythromicyn 250mg. Again, it was as effective as the doxy BUT this time, the infection came back only 2 days after finishing the prescription. This is the fastest it has ever came back.
Avatar f tn A week later I went to my gynecologist who ordered some more tests and came back positive for ureaplasma urealyticum. The doctor prescribed azithromycin and two and a half weeks weeks after finishing the treatment, a new test for ureaplasma came back positive again. My doctor ordered a basic antibiogram and it turns out that it has resistance for: tetracycline, doxycycline, erythromycin, azithromycin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin and clindamycin.
Avatar f tn No bacteria have been found before but Ureaplasma was cultured 2 weeks ago and he has prescribed Erithromycin 500mg qid for 7 days (a dose I understand to be very high and will undoubtedly spark off my thrush!). I have had blood tests last week: all within normal limits (blood glucose (fasting); full blood count; and autoimmune profile and I have no other health problems. My husband is circumcised and we have always used condoms.
Avatar m tn I went to a urologist and they diagnosed me with prostatitis. Ive been on Doxycycline for 1 month and nothings truly got better. i have 2 more weeks on the medication. WHAT CAN I DO? also im skeptical on it being prostatitis. especially if antibiotics hasnt cleared this up. Should i try and do a semen anaylsis? and how do i go about getting my doctor to use a camera to look into my urethera. (if the discharge is being cause by herpes sores im assuming this could diagnose it.
