Avatar n tn Hi, Good snacks are low carb snacks. Cheese, eggs, cold meats, vegetable sticks with cream based dips, nuts (best are macadamias and other high fat nuts - peanuts and cashews are best limited as they are high carb). You may get used to not having such sweetened foods over time. You may get more ideas by looking at low carb / keto / paleo recipes.

Avatar n tn I am not the parent of a type 1 diabetic, but am a type 1 diabetic myself. I was a child when diagnosed, and know the worry you are feeling, for I saw it in my own mother. I AM a mother, though, and know that getting a 4-year-old to eat an exact amount of food borders on impossible. I personally find that simple foods are the easiest to deal with when trying to balance food with insulin.

Can anyone please give me any tips/ideas about what kind of food and snacks) to eat throughout the day while I'm there? I'm not big on sweets (i.e.-doughnuts, cookies, pies etc) and I don't really care for fast food (McDonalds) unless it is the absolutely ONLY place available if we're in the middle of nowhere or something.

Avatar n tn Seeds are also good high protein low sugar snacks. But again, the first thing I would do is read read read and you'll get a lot of ideas that way. A good place to look for good things to eat that doesn't use a lot of sugar are recipes from macrobiotic cooking and eating -- they use almost no cane sugar at all, though they do use some complex sugar such as barley and rice malt.

Avatar n tn Hi, I'm 28 and have been a diabetic since I was 13. I have enjoyed alcohol since I was 18. Been of a large size (6`5 and 95kg) it has never effected me. I have only been drunk 2-3 times in my life. I also don't drink heavily. My control has been excellent with a averege Hemoglobin A1C result of around 5.5. Now late last year I went from Acrapid and Monotard, to Protaphane and Novorapid. I easily adapted to the new insulins and my control was fine. But I can no longer enjoy alcohol.
1767171 tn?1328022442 Thank you for the links..they had some great ideas for excercises that I can do inside! I did the crawling on the floor one, and made a game out of it with the kids, so they could laugh with me instead of at me, lol. Unfortunately it's not that I need to diet, I need to eat more. I'm only eating once a day, since my meds create a lack of appetite.
Avatar f tn I was never overweight, I'm 5'4'' have a child already, and my weight when im not pregnant is consistent 115. Any tips, ideas???? I've been through EXTREME stress this pregnancy, could that contribute?? I'm lost....
Avatar m tn I am a non smoker, not overweight, not diabetic and have no chronic history of heartburn, but in the past, I have been unable to take large doses (800mg) of ibuprofen without having strong reflux problems at night time. Other than that, reflux was infrequent and sporadic. However, I do like my coffee as well as my spicy and fatty foods. About four weeks ago, I started having mild heartburn symptoms at night, that were generally relieved by Zantac.
Avatar f tn For breakfast I can only have 25 total carbohydrates. For snacks (you should have three snacks a day including one before bed) no more then 30. For lunch and dinner no more then 45. I have to test my sugars four times a day and with my diet they haven't been bad at all! Good luck and don't worry its not that bad at all and if you have it it goes away after pregnancy usually. If I can help you in any way like sharing with you my meal plan or some good ideas I'll be happy to help just message me.
Avatar n tn Thank you so much! It is so scary to know that from this point on whatever i put in my mouth does not only affect me but my baby, I want to do everything right!

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in October, 2013. Since then I have lost 26 pounds (now down to 250 - I know, I know, EEK) and totally changed my eating habits. Yet in the same time period, my fasting glucose went from 6.0 to 6.3. Any ideas why that would happen? Thx.
Avatar n tn I just want to know what this means as far as a diagnosis is concerned so that I can educate myself a little more and determine what lifestyle changes I have to make in order to deal with this illness. I have recently been forcing myself to eat several small sensible meals/snacks throughout the day to try and maintain a steady blood sugar level but don't even know if this is the right thing to do or not either.
12773 tn?1328916786 I have been on a diet for the last 5 weeks and eating balanced meals and snacks throughout the day, as I am also diabetic. I started experiencing back pain about a week ago, and went to the dr on Friday, she didnt feel it was my kidneys, but did a urinalysis and said there was no infection, urine was clear. but sent it off anyway, and will get back to me, one thing I didnt mention to her was the smell of Ammonia I had started smelling the day before.
Avatar n tn My 13-yr-old daughter Kristal was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on 27 January 2004. We live in Canberra, Australia. And we think your idea is good! Kristal thinks that there should be something like a "forum" for people who don't have access to the internet and a page where readers can send in poems, pictures, etc...
