443878 tn?1205106796 I even switched to sprouted grain bread to have a lower GI (no flour) and eat fresh vegetables and fruits instead of frozen or canned. I don't eat any desserts or snacks. I feel so food deprived, and then I get bozos telling me that I really need to cut out the snacking. I don't snack on stuff except celery and carrot sticks! They just don't know.
872485 tn?1240607162 I had an A1C test and it came back at 6.4%. He said he wants me to follow a diabetic diet and exercise and have retest in 6 months. My fasting BS was 88, so that's good. I was told in college (I"m 34) that I had hypoglycemia and both my grandparents (one on each side) has diabetes. Does 6.4 mean I'm prediabetic? diabetic? Thanks!
Avatar m tn ths usual times to check blood sugar are fasting. Optimal level is in the 80s, but ‹95 is truely ok. >125 is diabetic. Other time is 2 hours after starting to eat. Optimal in this case is also <95, but 180 2 hrs after rating is considered diabetic. If you suspect you are at risk, for health, cut added sugars from your diet and reduce intake of processed foods. If you are diabetic, then low carb diet and meds, if necessary, is typically effective approach.
Avatar n tn It's quite a surprise to me since I'm not a sugarholic by any means. We never have desserts at home. Occasionally I will have the chocolate bar here and there but nothing extreme. Maybe once every two weeks. How will this affect my baby now that I'm 29 wks along? What kinda of foods should I be eating? I've been on pins and needles with my eating now that I've found out and I know this is not the time for dietiing. I am at a lost of what carbos, proteins, etc to eat. Help!

Avatar f tn I have lots of fruits throughout the day as my snacks, homemade frozen yogurt for desserts, and tons of steamed veggies during lunch and dinner. I'm not perfect and I do slip up, but my diet is about 1400-1450 calories and the dietician I saw said while she would like me to have less carbs in relation to the fat and protein, the 60% of caloric intake from carbs I'm currently getting isn't hurting my weight loss and can't be helped considering I get sick from fat (gallstones).
Avatar n tn You've gotten great advice & suggestions already. On the low/ no carb snacks topic, many kids like frozen desserts 'n' ice pops and there are plenty out there now with very few carbs. Talk with your endo about target *ranges* of bgs for your daughter. Most pediatric endos are more concerned about avoiding serious lows than tolerating some highs. Long term, do whatever your family can do to minimize any reward/ punishment connotation of food.
Avatar n tn Dont even worry (at first) about what you are eating at meal time. Just start out with baby steps, take out your snacks, start walking 3 times a week. In a month or so you will see progress and you will want to cut back at meal time also. We do all want to lose it fast (especially me!), but it is a daily thing. I have now lost a total of 40 of the 50 I gained during pregnancy. I have 10 of that left, but 20 to get to what I want to weigh ( i had already gained some before preggo HEHEHE).
Avatar f tn I mean he hides behind the entertainment center at night he has even fake slept while I checked on him at 3 am and I found that he had ice cream in bed with him and he was awake eating it just seconds before I get into his room. He is fed well, gets desserts and rewarded for good behavior etc. grounded loses his game cube game boy etc. for negative behavior. I have 4 children and the two younger are starting to try to get away with it.

1406332 tn?1315966360 Now I just do not like processed food. When I am really in a mood I try some of the chocolate desserts on Doctor Oz. We keep no snacks in the house except fruits or vegetables, I have to drive for a snack if I want it and usually I do not want it. I stopped drinking coffee out or eating out for the most part. Actually most food I eat out tastes bad now. Oh and Greek yogurt subsitute for sour cream on potatoes and in dips. My scale did not budge for years now I I am almost to perfect BMI.

Because most of my family is diabetic, I have become very aware of some of the mistakes doctors can make. The main one is a common attitude that patients won't comply with difficult regimes, so why not make it easy for them - even if their glucose readings remain somewhat high. This can cause tremendous damage.
Avatar f tn I could drink regular dew, but then I would weigh far too much and/or end up being diabetic. As for the headaches... once upon a time, when I was first switching over to diet soda from regular soda (because I was gaining a lot of weight) I also got headaches. But then, after awhile, I realized that there were 2 factors at play there. Not only was I adding aspartame to my system, but I was also reducing my sugar intake.
Avatar f tn Generally I'd suggest seeing a nutritionist for a weight reduction diet so the weight gain doesn't turn into diabetes which can be a concern if weight gain goes unchecked. Sometimes its a matter of reducing snacks, desserts and soda and the like. I was able to lose all the weight I gained from the Zyprexa in that manner. The mood stabilizer I am on now Clonidine can cause weight gain but I do the same thing.

I have started exercising at a gym and following a diabetic diet and lost 6kg in 3 months, the metformin also contributes to weight loss.. The cramps and pains dont go away. I need to know if anyone has overcome pcos ? Have you lost the weight completely ? Most importantly, have you managed to concieve and deliver a healthy baby ?
Avatar n tn for two years, and from the beginning, he hasn't lost ANY weight! And his doctor had him taking 1000mg AM, and PM. He is diabetic. I think you changing what you're eating, the amount you eat, and walking more often is the reasons why you loose weight! And also, it is VERY, VERY unhealthy to loose 19LBS in 1 week! If that's what is happening you should eat more Cal's! I've never meet a doctor who would be OK with ANYONE losing that much so fast!
Avatar n tn For the past 3 weeks I have been watching what I eat, not so much calories, but I eat several small snacks 2-3 times during the day, such as popcorn, or other 100 calorie snack packs (max 300-400 calories), then I go to the gym and do some weight training (abs, legs, back and arms), then I do cardio for another 30-40 minutes on high intensity (stair climber, elliptical, treadmill, bike) and then I come home and have a regular dinner, yet I have cut my portions in half.

Avatar n tn My advice to people for whom Slimquick doesn't work is to keep up your exercise routines and try South beach Diet or join a group like Weight Watchers.I'm a lifetime member & have been for many years.They teach you how to eat real food in the real world without pills.I've also belonged to a gym for 30 plus years.Weight training is one of the best ways to keep up your metabolism.The more muscle you have,the higher your metabolism because muscle is active tissue.
Avatar n tn Pepper, and Vanilla Coke Zero are my favs) You'd think i'd get tired of this and sometimes I do and have tuna with fat free mayo for lunch but when I see the weight coming off and know I have plenty of fat and carbs left over for snacks and dinner, I don't mind as much. It is really filling too. I usually don't get hungry for three hours unless I have craving but that's what the Phentermine was for. It is started to wear off now and I will be weening off it next month.

Avatar n tn When I returned to my doctor after breaking out (the steroids were done) she prescribed another dose, gave me a shot and also told me I was diabetic. Just had to do more blood work and sent me home. I had no meds for being diabetic because she wanted to see the results of the A1C test. I got a glucose meter and started testing myself immediately. I had taken 3 does of the steroids at this time...when I did my blood sugar it was 268! It should be around 110.

I have noticed certain variables that may or may not be the cause for these severe chills with no fever: - I usually am tired or have not slept well the previous night - I not hungry in the morning and have not eaten - my blood glucose is not controlled during the episode...rising on it's own. The chills usually occur a few hours after I awake and last about 2-4 hours. I will lay back, cover up and use a heating pad in order to get warm.
