Avatar m tn What does make a point tho is that complex carbohydrates take longer time to break down in your body to that means the blood glucose remains more stable. Complex carbohydrates are startchy food like patatoes, rice and pastas. Simple carbohydrates are what you should avoid and those are desserts and candies.

Avatar f tn Hello, welcome here. Reducing carbs is actually a help to controlling weight and blood sugars. Fruits to eat are non-tropical ones, as the tropical ones tend to be sweeter. Berries are often fine. Apples. Some melons. The trick is to "eat to your meter". Try a food and test after 1 1/2 - 2 hours to see the effect on your blood sugar.

I just find it good to have options and to view an alternate way of cooking or preparing food. Libraries also have copies of some health magazines. That could be another source of info. It will be interesting to read the doctors response. Not too many people ask about cooking.
Avatar n tn That is very strange! Have you ingested any over the counter medicines, products or foods? Nyquil, Listerine, fruit cake? That's the first thing that came to mind...Although, I know Nyquil is a huge no-no for pregnant women because it does contain a small trace of alcohol...and because of the holidays, many foods and desserts are spiked with traces of alcohol...other than that, I'm stumped. When can they tell you what it is from?

Avatar f tn t have it with my other two so its scary but keep an eye on your sugar and I just eat small snacks every two to three hours to keep a stable blood sugar. I cut back on drinks, mainly water and natural juice now. and I eat more veggies. limit your bread and fatty meats intake also. stick to veggies salads some fruit and maybe a bread I team a day.

I was told in college (I"m 34) that I had hypoglycemia and both my grandparents (one on each side) has diabetes. Does 6.4 mean I'm prediabetic? diabetic? Thanks!

Avatar f tn do this first; go to vitamin store; buy super high quantity pro-biotics enough to take 200 BILLION cultures daily for 2 weeks AND see if problems don't go away in mean time buy some gas X which u can find at a dollar store and take handfuls if u want drink only tap water, no soda eat only skinless chicken, fish and add vegetable with little oil or butter, NO SAUSE no junk food, no snack food, so sugar, candy, cake, pie, desserts etc etc if in a week your problems r not gone, come back OR

Avatar f tn To gain weight you need to increase your protein intake. I suggest a high protein shake, such as body builders drink. Take it as a supplement not as a meal. This works to lose weight if one is too fat (as a meal replacement) and will cause weight gain for those that are too thin. Contrary to what some might think, weight bearing ie weight lifting, builds muscle mass and increases weight also. This does not mean you need to look like a male body builder, but it does help with weight gain.

Avatar n tn Fill the fridge with healthy snacks and food , baby carrots, dip, yoghort, fruit, cheese, get crackers in, the healthy ones, sweets /candy only at the weekend as a treat dont buy them in and all of you will get healthy, low fat desserts, like ice cream, Bananas , grapes, baby tomatoes,If the food is there children will eat it if it isnt there they cant eat it.explaining to a 5 yar old wont work, take her to the store let her choose some snacks and food ,but only healthy ones. ....

Im just sooo worry that this diabet stays with me after pregnancy.another thing I'm afraid of is ending up with c-section due to a bug baby because of my failure. Avatar n tn Start reading labels to get familiar with carbohydrate grams. I think 50 grams per meal is plenty, but she needs to see a diabetic nurse to help her with all that, and also you can subtract the fiber and thats helpful too. Another important factor is serving or portions of food. I always say hospital serving size is helpful. American Diabetic Association web site has a carb counter you can use also. I will try and find the link for you.

The second thing to try because it's available and does work for lots of people is going to Weight Watchers. You aren't obliged to buy the food marketed as "Weight Watchers" meals in the freezer case to do Weight Watchers, it's a good program and has a lot of reinforcement if you go to the meetings and participate.
