Avatar f tn I cut out processed foods, bread, white potatoes, pasta, crackers, candy, cereal, desserts. My diet consists of salads with reduced fat dressings, salmon, chicken, tuna, occasional steak, green vegetables, occasional sweet potato, nuts, cottage cheese, greek yogurt and Atkins bars. I recently had a blood test and my fasting blood sugar went from 87 to 96, and my A1C rose from 5.8 to 5.9. I was shocked because my diet has not included simple carbs for the past 6 months.

1549468 tn?1345472336 I just found out the other day that I am a borderline diabetic. Something the old PCP didn't bother to let me know about. Just one of many things, actually. I am so glad I found a new PCP that I like. Yesterday I woke up feeling very weak and dizzy, which I feel was caused from not having a snack before bed tha night before...guess I won't do that again. This morning I had my oldest daughter, Alainna, get me some mandarin oranges before I even got out of bed.

Avatar f tn I don't have gestational. ..I'm a 20 year diabetic. Have some ice cream :) but go for a walk or exercise after. The main thing is not eat too much. Protein helps alot so you stay fuller longer. And protein doesn't break down into sugars later.
443878 tn?1205106796 My Dad is also type II diabetic. He put on weight when he started some of his diabetic medications. I think he's lost some again when he started insulin, but he's been overweight since becoming diabetic. I think many type II diabetics have problems losing weight. It just frustrates me because people who don't know me and don't know my eating habits just assume that I must eat everything in sight to be fat.

The important thing here is that you do what you can now for your baby. Most women the gd goes away after pregnancy.
872485 tn?1240607162 I had an A1C test and it came back at 6.4%. He said he wants me to follow a diabetic diet and exercise and have retest in 6 months. My fasting BS was 88, so that's good. I was told in college (I"m 34) that I had hypoglycemia and both my grandparents (one on each side) has diabetes. Does 6.4 mean I'm prediabetic? diabetic? Thanks!
Avatar f tn I crave sugar so badly. Do you guys have any recipes for desserts that are diabetic friendly? I've been eating fruit and I know that they say be careful of the sugars in grapes and bananas, but I really like having something that feels like dessert. Anyway, any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Avatar f tn I'm not perfect and I do slip up, but my diet is about 1400-1450 calories and the dietician I saw said while she would like me to have less carbs in relation to the fat and protein, the 60% of caloric intake from carbs I'm currently getting isn't hurting my weight loss and can't be helped considering I get sick from fat (gallstones). So a lower carb diet or diabetic friendly diet might be good for you, but don't cut it out all together. I've lost 16 kilos by trying to keep a balanced diet.
Avatar n tn It's quite a surprise to me since I'm not a sugarholic by any means. We never have desserts at home. Occasionally I will have the chocolate bar here and there but nothing extreme. Maybe once every two weeks. How will this affect my baby now that I'm 29 wks along? What kinda of foods should I be eating? I've been on pins and needles with my eating now that I've found out and I know this is not the time for dietiing. I am at a lost of what carbos, proteins, etc to eat. Help!
Avatar n tn I realize that it causes cancer and has caused cancer which is why they took it out of most Diet Sodas in the late 80s (I miss the original Diet DrPepper and TAB!) not record of clinical trials showing links to MS, Lupus, Fibro and the such....just good ole cancer. Stevia: I don't have much experience with this one - have tried it, though. I like the Orange Zevia Sodas. Different brands seem to taste different.
Avatar f tn I had this same question in my first pregnancy because I had been on the Atkins Diet and had switched to a lot of drinks with Splenda in it. Even after 'slipping' from the diet, I still drank diet soda and *loved* my Crystal Light. Here's what the American Pregnancy Association says about Splenda: "Sucralose: (Splenda) This is non-caloric sweetener that is made from sugar.
Avatar f tn My blood sugar is just fine, same as its always been. 60-90 fasting and 120 to 130 after a big meal. (On a diabetic glucose monitor.) Came back at 100 after the glucose test.

483733 tn?1326802046 Systemic lupus has become almost as rampant as multiple sclerosis, especially with Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi drinkers. The victim usually does not know that the Aspartame is the culprit. He or she continues its use; irritating the lupus to such a degree that it may become a life-threatening condition. We have seen patients with systemic lupus become asymptotic, once taken off diet sodas. In cases of those diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, most of the symptoms disappear.
Avatar f tn I also didn't pass the 3 hour test but Am controlling my sugar level with a heathly diet. (Mostly cut out sugar, substitute soda for water). Don't worry too much just need to modify your diet a bit.
