diabetes

Avatar m tn Two years ago I got an A1C done and it was 5.7. Last month I got it tested again and it was 5.4. I've been on a very healthy diet with lower carbs, no sugar, more fiber, more unsaturated fats(especially Omega 3), limited saturated fat and completely cut out trans fats. About 85-90% of my diet is unprocessed whole foods that I cook myself. I put myself on this diet in the spring and have lost 40 pounds. I am 5'6 and weighed over 180 pounds. Now i'm down to 140 and still losing weight.
Avatar n tn There are so many diet plans on the market and really none of them will work better then a diabetic diet set up by a diabetic nutritionist, most professional athletes follow a made to plan diabetic diet. Exercising is the key ( something that I don’t do but need to). There are so many complications with diabetes over the long term and I am sure most of you with diabetes know the complications.
Avatar m tn What I also found prior to SVR was that my enzymes were the very lowest on a low protein, very low fat and very high complex carb diet, i.e. the Pritikin diet. They were the highest on the Zone diet. My thought was that the main difference was the much higher fat and protein intake of the Zone type of diet you seem to advocate as opposed to a much lower fat and protein diet. With the Zone, someone my weight was required around 12 ounces of lean animal protein per day.

I like that you have a plan and ready to take examples from others yet you are truthful enough to say what and where you are going to splurge at! Funny. It's good to have a little humor in all of this. It's just been a couple of days literally that I decided to join this thread and make a commitment. So I don't have a whole lot to report on.
144210 tn?1273092382 Your glucose looks good, especially if that was a fasting draw. I believe you said you were diabetic or borderline diabetic? Anyway, it looks pretty good, especially if you've been eating the kind of garbage I ate when I was on treatment ;-) . Also do you happen to know what your cholesterol breakdown is? The only reason I ask is because there's a study that strongly correlates tx success with elevated pre-tx cholesterol levels, especially LDL cholesterol (the bad kind).
Avatar n tn My mother (my roommate) is a diabetic so; we’ve been eating our meals based on her diet. LOW CARBS, NO SUGAR, lots of salmon and chicken. When I do fall off the wagon, the sugar does upset my stomach. So, no more refined sugar for me. I use replacements like Agave Nectar (light), honey crisp apples or Vita waters for my sweet tooth. Had to cut out Blended Espressos with Caramel too. I read somewhere that bakery goods and foods made with flour are no very good for us either.
87972 tn?1322664839 It's probably worth mentioning that I've made some changes regarding exercise and diet as well. As a diabetic, it's important that I maintain tight blood glucose control- particularly while on treatment. Over the last six months, I've managed to lose approx. 50 lbs; walking 8 miles daily in the hills here along with removing most processed foods as well as meats (salmon only now!) from my meals has been really helpful.

Avatar m tn i have many of the same problems you mention, abdom fat, lipid disorders, boarderline high BP, glucose between 103-115 fasting (i think this is pre-diabetic?) and as you know i have not tx'd yet. this just re-inforces the fact that if you can wait to tx then you should. perhaps the chance of doing tx for a shorter duration with the new drugs will not allow these harsh drugs to do so much damage. anyway i have tried several different supplement regimens.
Avatar m tn It stayed high (greater than reportable range of 5 million) for roughly two years. It was then, approximately 18 months before trying LDN, that I did an intense diet and exercise regimen. That got my viral load down to 1.6 million and relieved many of my symptoms. 18 months later I went to my integrative medicine doctor for the first time and he put me on LDN and supplements. Here are the pertinent labs: SEPT 2008 (STARTING POINT WITH LDN, AFTER 18 MONTH DIET/EXERCISE PROGRAM) VL-1.
1550026 tn?1299339682 Those of us that end up with a succesful thyroid treatment plan have learned about our condition, this means asking for and keeping copies of all lab work (your right and the law). This is essential. You need to ask them why. Removing the thyroid is only generally practiced for Graves hyper thyroid not Hashimoto. This is a fact, not an opinion of mine. Dont just take their word for it. Sorry for being so straight forward, I'm not so sure you totally understand my last reply.
Avatar n tn Also, you are on a 1200 calorie per day diet that is similar to a diabetic diet. But you aren't hungry at all, so it is no problem to stick to it! Hope this helps someone. So far so good over here!
20804558 tn?1517783610 Hi Specialmom, long time, no see and welcome back... bouncing things off each other is exactly what we're doing here... I'm always on a quest to lose weight, but it's more than "a few" pounds and I've been at it for the past 10 yrs... Neither am I spring chicken - I'm really an old hen, compared to most...lol but I don't give up, because I don't think age has a lot to do with it, since I got way all the way through my 50's and long past menopause before I gained weight.
Avatar n tn ) I am a type 2 diabetic and went on a fairly low carb diet to control high blood glucose and I'm convinced this is what cleared the itching and rash. I also took half an asprin to thin my blood and a multi vitamin daily. To this day I don't know what I had or where I got it from or even if it was connected to Diabetes. It nearly drove me crazy.
Avatar n tn Unfortunatly we only have 3 endo guys in our area, and I'm waiting for my April appt. Hopefully he can shed more light on the problem than my family MD. In the mean time I plan on weaning off the cytomel after I discuss a plan of action with my doc next week. Y'all take care.
Avatar f tn So, for all those reasons, getting to and maintaining an ideal BMI is a positive step. Additionally diet is important in taking care of the liver. Generally speaking, a low fat, healthy diet, high in veggies and fruit, preferably organic, is good. Sugar can be a problem. You didn't mention if he has been tested for diabetes, but being overweight and having a sweet tooth puts him at risk for diabetes. Hep C treatments can be very hard on the body and diabetes can complicate treatment.
Avatar n tn I have read Kevvie's book(s) and I find that the hcG thing - injections - are also to be followed with a Diet, darn! A diet that seems as if there isn't enough cookies. No chips and dips. No ice cream. Could the diet-lower calorie intake- help in assisting the body to burn more fat? If you eat less, will more fat be used? I wonder what would happen if I ran away from the syringe, would this type of activity assist in weight loss as well?
Avatar n tn My last two Docs were Endocrinologists and still gave me strange advice, so you need to check references etc... to choose a good one.
Avatar m tn What is your reaction to HONEY and to High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which is used as sweetener in several commercial foods (yoghurts, chocolates, drinks, any packaged food...)? ------------------------------------------------- Anyone, who have problems with fruits, invited to answer to above questionaire.
280891 tn?1261016650 He started his research in the 1950's and has had good results. There is web site supporting his diet. The Paleo Diet has also shown success in treating these neurological diseases. If you want to find out why you have MS Hal Huggins has a book "Solving The MS Mystery Help Hope and Recovery". It is my understanding that the earlier in the disease you address the problem the better chance you have of recovery. Is it all about our genes being messed up?
Avatar n tn I was eating over 1/2 cups of nut every single night and the same amount of shell pumkin seeds. I am type 2 diabetic, these snacks are permissible for a diabetic, but when I saw the Oaxalte content I quit eating the a day after the this latest issue. Nut contain no salt at all and the seed have light sea salt.
Avatar n tn I have been on the HCG Protocal for almost four weeks and have not achieved the expected results. I have been following the prescibed diet and HCG injection instructions to the letter. I live in Houston, Texas and have been working with a clinic in Colorado Springs. Is there a clinic in Houston that provides the HCG protocal. Perhaps support in my local area would achieve the desired results.
Avatar n tn We plan on exposing the entire situation at this well know LI Medical Center. OPD is conducting their investigation, however it will not stop there. I plan on writing a short text so that others can benifit from this tragedy. Make no mistake however, those who contributed to this tragedy will indeed be held acountable for their actions.
Avatar n tn (15 in the last 6 months) while continuing to diet and exercise the entire time (I have changed nothing and in fact have increased my exercise). This rapid unexplained weight gain has me going crazy. My thyroid has been tested and is well within normal range---my Dr thinks it's all just due to menapause--but this seems SO excessive especially for someone like me who is SO disciplined with my diet and also with exercise. WHat else could this be????
420882 tn?1205387172 Thanks for the points of reference. I will most certainly be pursuing this farther. It is good to have some examples for discussion with NP / Doc. It is the sort of info that I find difficult to search /discover. With all the various factors to consider, I am sure there are not any standard protocols or had numbers for dose reductions. I just need to fight for my best chance. There is so much to learn...
Avatar m tn Thank you for your posting. I'll be seeing my doctor, finally, on Jan. 7, 2010. I plan on bring with me the info I've found here online in an effort to get a good diagnosis. I'll post when I have a definitive answer and hopefully that will help the others who have this problem as well. To all a very happy holiday season and let's have some good health in the new year.
Avatar n tn per week. I'm only about 25 lbs. overweight so I figure that if I follow the easy diet plan and take my weekly shot I should be at my desired weight in a month. I'll let everyone know how this goes. Wish me luck!
Avatar n tn When I returned to my doctor after breaking out (the steroids were done) she prescribed another dose, gave me a shot and also told me I was diabetic. Just had to do more blood work and sent me home. I had no meds for being diabetic because she wanted to see the results of the A1C test. I got a glucose meter and started testing myself immediately. I had taken 3 does of the steroids at this time...when I did my blood sugar it was 268! It should be around 110.
