Avatar m tn My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?
436973 tn?1217947089 The past couple of days I've noticed my cat has a lot of dandruff. she has had a little flakiness before, but this is quite a bit. Is this something I should be concerned about?
791533 tn?1309745344 I agree with Dr. Amthis, veterinary evaluation is needed. Behavioral causes of self mutilation are possible, but are diagnosed by eliminating other treatable medical causes such as parasites, bladder pain, spinal pain, etc.
658901 tn?1403814634 Are you seeing any blood in the diarrhea? If you are, please take your cat to the veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and possibly xrays. If you are not seeing any blood, you can try to prepare a bland diet for your cat using white rice and chicken. Try to not give him any food for about 12 hours, only water, and then give him some small amounts of cooked white rice and boiled chicken. It is important that he only take a small amount (a couple of spoon fulls at most).
Avatar n tn If your cat is not eating or drinking, then this is an emergency, and your cat should go to the veterinarian ASAP. The excessive licking may be due to fleas, allergies, or anxiety (or a combination), and your veterinarian can examine her to tell you the best course of treatment.
Avatar n tn All of a sudden, the cat attacked her, I came out, and the cat attacked me. We sat on the couch, cat was fine again, ate some treats, when our feet touched the floor, cat freaked out again. Fangs out, growling, hissing, everything!! I mean cat was screaming! Normally, gentle loving cat. Had here from baby. Never been outside, got all shots, been spayed. We ran out of apartment, afraid to go back in. I am scared and don't know what to do.
Avatar m tn This may sound bizarre, but we have a female rescue cat, now 3 years of age, who has been spayed three times. She was originally spayed and had her stitches when we adopted her at 3 months. She went on heat, and we took her back to the original Vet who did the operation again. She recovered had her stitches removed and then went on heat again.
Avatar f tn I would stop the Vetasyl if you try the Benefiber. Ask your veterinarian about possibly using DSS, a stool softener. It does not make the cat go, it merely assists in the passage of stool. If your veterinarian has not run a general blood and urine test on your cat, I would strongly recommend that you ask for a panel. You want to be sure that there are no underlying medical issues that could be exacerbating the constipation. When in doubt, ask your primary care veterinarian.
1608004 tn?1390770990 I have a lovely little black cat. I noticed yesterday she seems to be having a bad case of the flakes. she has a lot of dandruff in her hair. she only eats grain free food (both wet and dry) should I be giving her something to counteract this dandruff? maybe some sardines or olive oil or something. thank you!
Avatar f tn As a holistic veterinarian, a few weeks ago a veterinarian contacted me about a cat, that sounds very similar to yours. This cat was 18 years old, had arthritis due to multiple pelvic fractures, megacolon and was unable to defecate without daily enemas and fluids. The owner was considering euthanasia. As a last resort, we started the cat on an all-natural vitamin supplement, patented for cats called Paaws.
Avatar n tn My 6yr old male cat has allergic dermitis. He just had to get a shot last week b/c he had sores all over his belly from biting and scratching. Now he has a fat bottom lip. He had the same thing in February, got a shot and it went away. I read that fish based foods can cause allergies. He only eats chicken flavored food but I had just given him a salmon flavored treat a day or so before the lip flare up.
Avatar m tn We found my long haired cat outside about 3-4 years ago and she was a healthy cat, been spayed. But lately we've noticed that shes lost some weight and more recently we noticed that shes lost quite a bit of fur on her back and the bottem of her tail. We don't have the money to take her to the vet unless we know theres somethig wrong, could anyone tell me whats wrong?
Avatar n tn My 9 year old cat was just diagnosed with Feline Lukemia. I was wondering what natural supplements have been shown to improve quality of life for cat's with Feline Lukemia..
4734825 tn?1358563369 At the Veterinarian I would wait 30 minutes. My puppy was still not observed. Veterinarian #2 would apologize and say we had a emergency C section. Let's give him a shot to reduce the swelling in his cheeks. The shot was given. Early that same day before leaving I would pay $549 dollars for this examination. The only examination was the one performed in front of me. I was just happy to take home our puppy. A steroid shot unknown, 14 Clavamox 375mg, 20 Prednisone 20mg.
663774 tn?1297225152 If she is negative, depending on her lifestyle (indoors only or outdoors, single cat vs multi cat household) you and your veterinarian could also consider the Feline Leukemia vaccine. After her boosters, she should be vaccinated per the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) protocols. That is rabies and distemper once every 3 years and feline leukemia vaccine based on her risk factors.
Avatar n tn s GI tract and the size of the milk ring, I would be hesitant to say that this will pass easily. If you take your cat to the veterinarian soon, they might be able to catch the ring in the stomach with an endoscope. I would call your veterinarian for advice on this...in some cases with dogs, veterinarians will recommend a heavy meal to try and coat the object and help move it out of the system. I am not sure if this is an option in cats or not. Good luck...keep us posted!
Avatar f tn If is, of course, impossible for us to say here. But both as a veterinarian, and as a cat owner, this is what I would do. Get a new set of eyes and a new professional opinion - and express your feelings anew to this second veterinarian and proceed with confidence. In finding this new veterinarian I would look for a specialist in internal medicine. Most major cities have them (DACVIM is after their name), or a Board Certified Veterinary Practitioner (ABVP is after their name).
Avatar n tn Sounds to me that there is possibly a cat in the home of the babies or at least one of them. Your cat sounds like it is marking his territory. If your cat smells other cats on the infants it can feel threatened. The cat could also be jealous of the babies. The babies are now getting all the attention and your cat no longer is getting as much attention as before. such as maybe being shooed away as to not accidentally scratch the baby. Your cat has feelings remember that.
496949 tn?1209721192 Hi! my cat is 19 years old and she has a strange type of knob above her left hind leg, its been there for years now! Shes also very sensitive to sounds and sleepy most of the time! pls help...is there something wrong, is there anything that i can do? i need your advice!!!
Avatar n tn My cat is about 7 years old. She has terrible dandruff. Also her entire body seems to be very sensitive, almost painful to the touch. So uncomfortable that she only allows me to pet her head. Please help! I have no idea what this may be & she seems so uncomfortable. She has always had a slight dandruff problem, but now it is really bad. It also looks like her fur is clumping together. Any & all advice would greatly be appreciated!
Avatar f tn You should take this cat into the veterinarian as soon as possible, especially since it sounds as if she has not been to a veterinarian in the time you have had her. FYI...tapeworms in cats are generally due to fleas. And they are unlikely to cause these type of symptoms.
Avatar n tn Our cat has had a persistent wheezy cough with a sometimes gagging response..so far with no vomitting. Also, picking him up will sometimes cause these symtoms to occur. we took him to the vet last october(2008) and the diagnosis was suspected asthma. He was given Prednisone 5mg for ten days, then with usual 10 day reduction schedule. he was also given Clavamox 62.5 tabs 1 orally every 12 hours until gone (20 days).
