675347 tn?1365460645 This really helped me understand about why she sheds twice a year. The dandruff thing she ONLY ever gets when shedding, and not other times I've noticed. I'm not certain if it is dander though in her case.....(?) It does seem to be more like dead skin-cells She also is not inclined to lick her fur, except the hair-free parts of her belly, (and dog-bits!
485351 tn?1208647497 My cat is just about a year old and she is experiencing a sudden increase in appetite, dandruff in her rump area, and a sudden loss of fur. The loss of fur is not in clumps, she just seems to be shedding a whole lot lately. She has been more inactive than usual too, almost depressed. We have not found any flea droppings or presence of worms in her stool. I've noticed lately that she can't seem to jump as high as she used to, and gives up playing earlier than before.
Avatar n tn We never had this problem with our cat, until we brought the younger cat home briefly. We adopted the younger cat out a week ago and my cat is still urinating in the house. She not spraying. Just peeing on the floor in places. Any suggestions on the shedding and urinating. Thank you.
Avatar m tn My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?
436973 tn?1217947089 Well, to some degree it depends on what you are feeding your cat but yes, dietary enzymes are very useful. Unless you are feeding your cat the highest-end, human-grade foods, I can pretty much guarantee that they aren't "processing" everything as they should. Cats are "obligate carnivores", a type of predator that gets it's nutrition in a very specific way that is difficult to reproduce successfully. So, I absolutely recommend using digestive enzymes.
Avatar n tn Over the past few months ive developed dandruff i think then my head started to itch and now i have 2 hard bumps on the back of my head close to my neck and in my hair. its really irritating me what should i do?
Avatar m tn This problem began quite a few months ago. I noticed my hair texture suddenly change - it became very dry, coarse, and brittle. It began to break very easily and whenever I washed it there was a lot of shedding. However, I didn't (and still don't) seem to be actually losing any hair. I did have a slight problem with dandruff. Some nights I would massage coconut oil into my scalp then wash it out the next day.
1608004 tn?1390770990 All you need to do is go to your local pet store and buy a special shampoo for cats for dandruff, itchiness, and dry skin. And, you can buy some salmon oil or omega 3 oil for cats and give her a half teaspoon a day in her food. This should really help a lot. I have done it myself and my cat looks great!
Avatar f tn My kitty Chesapeake has dandruff. I try and brush her a couple of times a week, but she's not keen on that even after over a decade she's been with us. She's very healthy otherwise (9even though she is chubby).
Avatar n tn My cat is about 7 years old. She has terrible dandruff. Also her entire body seems to be very sensitive, almost painful to the touch. So uncomfortable that she only allows me to pet her head. Please help! I have no idea what this may be & she seems so uncomfortable. She has always had a slight dandruff problem, but now it is really bad. It also looks like her fur is clumping together. Any & all advice would greatly be appreciated!
875771 tn?1240274933 I have an 8 year old cat and a 2 1/2 year old cat. I've had both since they were little kittens and when I got the younger one, my older cat surprisingly took her in and now the two of them get along great. The 8 year old is a male who thinks he's the younger female's mother. Anyway....lately he has been using my bed, both urinating on it and pooping on it. A couple days ago I was standing right there in front of him and he pooped on my bed with me watching!
Avatar n tn She was only 7 pounds and 5 years old. We started feeding her Iams cat food and she has gained 3 pounds and the shedding is getting better. She is not losing as much and she is more active now with the extra weight. She was so thin before that I didn't even want to pet her (felt all her bones).
1488781 tn?1301479298 If you mean "reduce", then you can benefit both yourself and the cat by using a shedding loop tool. Look at my cat's pictures in my profile, as there is at least one picture showing one of these "brushes". My cat has a double thick coat and this kind of grooming tool does wonders. It even prevents her swallowing so much hair that she gets hair balls. So, it's a win-win type of grooming tool.
1395422 tn?1308016251 The last 2 times i was pregnant i knew straight away by my hair, Like you i have naturally curly hair and after washing it the day later it would go really greesy and id get bad dandruff and every day was a bad hair day (literally) LOL.
514349 tn?1272801633 She said you have to expect an older cat to have problems. He is shedding like crazy, also. I brush and brush and still his fur is almost falling out in clumps. I don't think it's mange. He is an indoor cat only and not exposed to many things. I just wonder if the shedding could be due to it's been so unseasonably hot lately. I don't have air conditioning and where the cat stays most of the time, it got near 80 F for several days.
Avatar n tn Bird mites have to be treated with a bug bomb and the bird or rodent nest removed. Pet mites(or walking dandruff) look like tiny white dandruff that moves. This is treated with a strong flea/mite shampoo weekly for 4 weeks plus the carpet/upholstery must be treated with a flea carpet spray weekly for 4 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hello. I'm a 20 year old male and during the fall season of 2012 my scalp started really iching and my hair started to shed severely around the crown region. During this time I also had dandruff. This itchyness and dandruff persisted for about another 3 months, that's when I jumped on Nizoral 1%. It stopped the dandruff and the itching, but till this day I'm shedding and its very noticable. My hairloss started at the crown and has worked its way up to my hairline.
Avatar f tn I am almost four weeks post treatment SOC and I am still shedding. Anyone know how long this continues????? Not as bad as when on treatment but still pretty bad.
535822 tn?1443976780 I believe that I did buy the replacement "brush" at Petsmart. These things are great and I've yet to meet up with a cat that doesn't just love these shedding loops. I'm not sure why it was hard for someone else to find at Petco, since when I was shopping around some time ago, I saw some there, too. Ce la vie. It has been quite a while since bought the replacement one.
Avatar n tn I went to the Dr. and he said that it was like dandruff and that I would have it the rest of my life. He told me to take fish oil pills to calm it down. I have been taking 1000 mili pills three times a day and it isn't doing anything except for making me burp up a fishy taste. Today after my shower I was drying off and felt something on my back where my bra sits. I looked in the mirror and there was a scabby rash thing that looks like the one on the back of my head.
Avatar n tn My scalp is always dry and flaky, as well as my face, especially around my eyebrows, forehead, and hairline. I have tried everything in the book-steroid foams, creams, lotions, shampoos, salicylic acid, sulfur, you name it. I cannot even put on my makeup without first slathering cream and aquaphor ointment on my face. I get microdermabrasion once every two weeks, and have even had UV light therapy.
Avatar n tn I went to several doctors who have told me to try different dandruff shampoos (Selsun Blue, Nizoral 2%, Head and Shoulders) and none of the shampoos have ever worked. I've even tried leaving shampoo on my skin for several hours and then washing it off. I always thought it was tinea versacolor because of the photos I've seen of other cases, but none of the remedies have helped. Is there anything out there that will get rid of this fungus permanently?
1109547 tn?1300235266 hi and welcome to our cat forum, first of all if you want to improve their coat and physical health YES you most certainly do need to feed them a much better diet and fast!!! No wonder they are always hungry, they are starving for nutrients.....most foods are filled with grains and animal by products NOT real meat. Dry food is a no, no.....its full of chemicals to preserve and its lacking in the much need moisture cats need. dry food has 10% moisture cans have 78%.
1729448 tn?1342094737 Hi Tiffie, first, I know you love your kitty and mean well; you're doing a Great job caring for her, but cats are self cleaning so they don't need to be bathed. It dries their skin out and well, just not necessary. I understand you're doing it to get the loose fur off, but again, not necessary. If anything, it might be stressing her more which will in turn, cause her to shed more.
890634 tn?1241186679 I am limited in products that I can use because my Celiac Disease causes me to react to topical products that contain gluten, which is in most products for dandruff shampoo. My scalp is in terrible shape, and my hair is shedding way more than is normal. I do take vitamin supplements and fish oil daily. Please help! Thank you.
