Avatar n tn hi actually the layer of dandruff( the bump i presume) gets very hard, thus simple shampooing with tip of my fingers doesnt disturb the bump, hard combing leads to breaking of the bump and usually a chunk of dandruff(skin) comes out,but the bump seems to reappear the next day, so are the bump bcoz of dandruff? ZPTO & ketoconazole shampoo made by different companies are different ?
Avatar m tn I would go see another dermatologist about it before trying to treat it yourself. Dandruff shampoo should help a bit, but when I had eyebrow and face "dandruff" (seborrheic dermatitis), it was a course of ketoconazole cream that did the trick, and not the dandruff shampoo.
Avatar m tn I myself have had the same sort of thing lucky you had no burning it does sound like seborrhiec dermatitis using an anti dandruff shampoo such as nizorelle (costs about £5.00) contains ketocozanle which acts as an anti fungal ingredient and can also be used as a body wash (so my doc informs me) in the dry hair only formulation it uses collagen to nourish and repair the hair shaft as well as improving overall condition.
Avatar m tn Hello doctor. For the past month or so I have been using an anti-dandruff shampoo named "Triatop". It's main ingredient is "Ketoconazole". I've use it twice a week. Since I have noticed that my hair has thinned out a bit. Since this discovery I haev stopped use. My main question and concern is if the hair loss is permanent or if my hair will grow back again? I am 22 years old. What is your opinion on this and is there any action I should take? Thank you for your time.

Avatar f tn Seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp can be treated effectively by using an anti-dandruff dandruff shampoo containing ketoconazole or salicylic acid or selenium sulfide. If symptoms recur, you may again begin with the treatment prescribed by your dermatologist. Take care.
Avatar n tn There are many over the counter anti dandruff shampoos. Selsen Blue is one of them. If your hair is naturally too oily, try a shampoo the says "clarifying" . A lot of these type of shampoos help at the root of the hair shaft and help balance out the amount of moisture present. I have a teenage daughter with this exact problem. I ended up buying a clarifying shampoo from a local beauty salon.
Avatar f tn I experience a lot of itching in them. I oil my scalp regularly and use an anti dandruff shampoo but so far no improvement. I have 4-5 such patches on my scalp and every time i brush my hair, a lot of dandruff comes out. Someone please advise!
Avatar m tn I also wear a showercap on some days as too not wet my hair as I heard that is good for clearing the dandruff. Nothing has worked. I have used many different anti-dandruff shampoo with no luck. My scalp is itchy and feels EXTREMELY dry but at the same time if I run fingers through my hair it feels oily. I have noticed that I have red pimples on my scalp too. They have no pus or anything like that just a red bump and when I scratch on it some skin peels off.
Avatar n tn Hi, The best way to treat dandruff is to use a dandruff shampoo. Look for shampoos with ingredients such as zinc pyrithone, salicyclic acid, coal tar, selenium silfide, or ketoconazole. All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out.
Avatar n tn //www.healthline.com/health/ketoconazole-shampoos While it helps many people that have flaking of the scalp, it also can cause skin irritation for some. Did a doctor recommend it? A dermatologist is good to talk to about issues related to one's scalp and direction on how to treat it. You may be allergic to ketocanazole shampoo as severe itching is a sign of that. A lot of times, a tar based shampoo can be effective for dandruff. Here's a guide that goes through options.

Avatar n tn ll feel another tingle somewhere else on my head. It is ONLY happening to my head and nowhere else. I was using a 2% Ketoconazole shampoo for dandruff but I haven't used it in 2 weeks assuming the shampoo was the cause of it and I'm still itching. Again it was an overnight thing I went to bed just fine and woke up the next morning with all this. It's hard for me to sleep now and I'm very distraught over this that nothing I do makes it go away.
Avatar n tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.

Avatar n tn The spots are not scaly. Whenever he applies a dandruff shampoo to it, it eases and goes away. He has been told that it is the dandruff that has run down to his face.Others say that it is his high alcohol consumption which is in correlation to some liver disorder. The spots tend to look like ring worm but not exactly. When the weather becomes cool, it also surfaces. What do you think this condition sounds like?

Avatar n tn 5% selenium sulfide or 2% ketoconazole (Nizoral ointment and shampoo) applied to dry skin and washed off after 10 minutes, repeated daily for 2 weeks is the treatment. Recurrence is common and may be reduced by intermittent application of topical agents (such as tea tree oil) or adding a small amount of anti-dandruff shampoo to water used for bathing.
