485351 tn?1208647497 t have to see the flea that affected your cat since one flea bite can causing itching for at least a month if the cat flea allergy dermatitis; and the flea could be brought in on clothes, etc. There are some things that you can try at home, but, if they are not effective I encourage you to take her to the vet no matter how far away. I would switch her food to a hypo-allergenic, grain-free, novel protein, CANNED diet.
Avatar n tn Bird mites have to be treated with a bug bomb and the bird or rodent nest removed. Pet mites(or walking dandruff) look like tiny white dandruff that moves. This is treated with a strong flea/mite shampoo weekly for 4 weeks plus the carpet/upholstery must be treated with a flea carpet spray weekly for 4 weeks.
Avatar n tn There are several topical cat flea control products which work by affecting the nerve receptors of the flea. They are usually applied to the cat's skin at the back of the neck. You can use Advantage, Frontline, Revolution etc. Bathe the cat and brush..or keep doing it since you've been on top of things already. You're right. You should be nervous as the cat may become anemic.
Avatar n tn Which do you feel is better in controlling an out of control flea situation? the cat has had a reaction to fleas- which we put on frontline- and she does seem to be improving, however the flea situation is not. We did bomb the house this weekend but are finding fleas again already. As far as the cats treatment, do you find frontline or advantage better in killing the fleas and controlling the fleas? Also- advantage doesn't kill the eggs right? whereas frontline does?
Avatar f tn Hi I have a friend who has a cat and Is pregnant but she might have fleas and I have red online that I should not flea a cat that is pregnant so how can she get rid of the fleas of she can not flea the cat plz can u help Bombay xxx
Avatar n tn the dirt that you see on your cat is actually flea dirt (poop). you need to get your cat treated for fleas and you need to have a flea bomb put in your room. fleas jump.
436973 tn?1217947089 The past couple of days I've noticed my cat has a lot of dandruff. she has had a little flakiness before, but this is quite a bit. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Avatar f tn A cat who is allergic to fleas will react to a single flea bite. I would suggest flea treatment that kills fleas and eggs before they bite. She may also need a topical or systemic antihistamine to counter the allergic reaction.
Avatar f tn I have experince with this. Older cats can develop dry skin, which is flaky. It is not dangerous tho the cat or the owners. I would say your kitty is okay with the flakes, unless you notice other symptoms like excessive scratching or hair loss.
535822 tn?1443976780 She came in wet and I ot a towel to dry her, I noticed many white bits on her fur, got the wire brush and brushed her, it looks like dandruff do, cats get that ,its not flea eggs as when I looked through the magnifying glass you can se its like of flaky bits.. What can I do about it, are there dandruff shampoos .She's not been bathed as she hates water .Any ideas .
Avatar n tn My best results when dealing with a cat and fleas have been to put Frontline (or sometimes Revolution, as my vet recommends it) on the cat, and to comb the cat with a flea comb every night (these are fine-toothed combs that the fleas get trapped in, and you then drown the fleas). The cat pulls any fleas out of the environment because her body is warm, and I physically remove the fleas from the cat or they die because of the Frontline.
Avatar f tn They have several different shampoo's for this at your local pet store. If it is very severe. your Vet can prescribe a shampoo that is stronger. You want to give him a bath soon or he will scratch to the point of an infection. I use a brand called Malaseb for my bullies and it works great. They have skin problems all year long. If you choose to use this brand make sure your dog doesn't get any water in his mouth while bathing him. It will give him a stomachache. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn good advice given, I have also found a method to rid your home of the beggars. "fleas spend the majority of their time in your home or yard and not on your cat, therefore treating the cat isn't enough you also need to treat the areas the fleas live" a holistic method. -50% borax powder -15% dried lavender herb run through the coffee or spice grinder. -5% cornstarch -5% baking soda *also recommend adding 25% diatomaceous earth(?) food grade.
Avatar f tn If you go to Wikipedia you can find images on the life cycle of the flea and what the larve look like, what the eggs look like and what the fleas look like. All 3 have to be eradicated from the house and the kit must continue to receive flea medication during this time. If your kit is also an outdoor cat and indoor cat, you may have to rethink about letting her outside where other animals have active fleas...
Avatar f tn t stop itching bad scratches is self to death, he us going boild , my cat had fleas so I treated them all with flea stuff and my cat still got them, I can see one on my dog though, so wot could it be with him,
Avatar f tn That is strictly a function of climate. For every flea on a cat, there are 100 more not on a cat, so whether or not outdoor cats are treated for fleas will make no difference in terms of the outdoor environmental flea population. If your vet is telling you differently, then that is a total crock. Second, flea products contain one or both of two categories of chemicals. They are either insecticides or they are nerve inhibitors.
Avatar f tn Get a flea and tick shampoo for cats. They're already in your house, so taking the poor little thing back won't help. You will need to treat your house at the same time: wash all bedding, vacuum like crazy, and use something like diatomaceous earth to kill any left. But first make sure they're actually fleas, and not ticks. If you can count then and pick them, it sounds more like ticks to me. Fleas are tiny, usually much more of them in one place, and jump around when disturbed.
7395901 tn?1390576733 I swear I've tried just about everything, I've sprayed the house three times with the spray that Pest control uses and given her(my 10lb cat) a good flea bath at the same time. I've brought spray to spray on her and the furniture. Beside the three I just named, I've given her countless of flea baths. I've brought every product Harts has got to offer, I got the drips to put on her back and a flea collar, and everything has failed me.
Avatar n tn He kept coming into our backyard looking for food, and he had a collar (no nametag or information though). He kept coming for a month or so and we realized his owner had likely abandoned him. After taking him in and putting up posters, taking him to the vet, etc, we couldn't identify the owner and took him for our own. We would let him out and a few years into this he started getting fleas. We had had a flea collar on him, but apparently it didn't do anything.
Avatar m tn I would NOT use an over-the-counter flea treatment, but one of the safer and more effective ones available through the vet, like Frontline or Revolution. It sounds like she has flea problems (the internal flea meds like Frontline will also help kill fleas that are in kitty's environment), but don't use Advantage because although people buy it because it's OTC, it can be dosed incorrectly and can harm the cat's kidneys.
Avatar n tn s 16 was raised with her with no signs of the same condition affecting her. We have not changed her cat food and have not found any flea droppings on her at all. The only changes in the house, was a recent loss of our 13 yr old dog and an addition of a 7 mo puppy in December. There were no affects to the new addition and they have gotten along well in that the cat hisses and the puppy leaves the area.
3114542 tn?1341839684 Hi my name is Tess, I have a cat Gigi. I have had her since she was about 2 weeks old. She is now 9 1/2 years old. She had never really been normal, she doesn't really like anyone (even ME) I got her from a lady who rescues cats, she was the only one of her litter to live. Now with all that, she talks to me in the morning and sometimes I can pet her, but only for a few moments. But she seems pretty happy all around as long as nobody bothers her. I live alone, no kids.
Avatar f tn Ok so for about 3 weeks now I have had an itchy scalp. I thought it was just from dandruff, which I get from this time of year, along with an itchy scalp. However, twice I have found centimeter-sized bugs in my hair when I was taking a shower. My mom has gone through my hair thoroughly three times and has found no bugs, only white flecks, which she can't distinguish dandruff from nit eggs.
Avatar n tn ve got a continual low level flea problem, then you probably need to treat your house/apartment for fleas as well. Rugs, bedding, etc... either a flea bomb or powder/spray with plenty of vacuuming (not the normal cleaning you do, this is a "special cleaning regime" for flea deterrence"). That plus the front-line will do the trick. Personally, I'm against flea collars. They tend to cause problems in the long run (health wise) and to be dangerous for your cat.
1110049 tn?1409402144 Hi Maddie, we, too, use Frontline and it does kill the fleas and eggs; however, the problem with an outdoor cat is there are fleas out there, so new ones jump on. Jade is outdoors in the summer ALL the time so we are faced with the same problem. I don't actually see any fleas, but she starts scratching well before her next application is due. Something else. We've been using Frontline for 5yrs, but due to finances, I went with Advantage this month and it seems to be working great.
Avatar f tn She is getting them either directly from the mice or by ingesting flea eggs on the mice. You will need to treat mama and the kittens and then keep them inside to prevent them from continually getting reinfected.
Avatar f tn Exterminator or flea bomb through the house, which means just be gone for the day, n to be safe steam.clean the carpet.u can rent a machine, its more cost efficient, u can purchase the flea bomb anywhere.
Avatar f tn If your kitty will tolerate, you may bathe him in a hypoallergenic or oatmeal bath 48 hours BEFORE or AFTER you apply the flea medication so that it can take full effect. *** WARNING***: DO NOT bathe if he has open wounds, sores or signs of infection! It is NOT an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY and will either cause even more grooming due to irritation or introduce bacteria. Hope this Helps! Keep us updated and maybe let us know bit more about him just as M suggested.
