Avatar m tn My grandma has two female cats that are about 2 years old. The one cat has been losing hair around her front legs and back legs. Has anyone seen this kind of problem before?
791533 tn?1309745344 It is highly likely that one or more of these problems is the culprit that needs prompt veterinary treatment. Your cat is obviously bothered by the situation and your veterinarian can get your cat some relief.
Avatar n tn s checked out, the better success with treatment. Your veterinarian will work hard to find the answer to your frustration with, "why???" Best of luck!
Avatar n tn If your cat is not eating or drinking, then this is an emergency, and your cat should go to the veterinarian ASAP. The excessive licking may be due to fleas, allergies, or anxiety (or a combination), and your veterinarian can examine her to tell you the best course of treatment.
1351676 tn?1301339436 Hello, I have just started to notice my black cat has got dandruff,. How do I treat this?
Avatar m tn Vaccination of a particular cat is something that should be discussed and decided on between a cat owner and their veterinarian. It is my understanding that the URI (herpes and calicivirus) vaccine does not completely prevent the cat from getting the virus but it usually greatly reduces the severity of the symptoms. These two viruses are very contagious stable viruses that are very widespread among cat. Most cats are exposed when they are young and have developed some immunity to them.
Avatar f tn As a holistic veterinarian, a few weeks ago a veterinarian contacted me about a cat, that sounds very similar to yours. This cat was 18 years old, had arthritis due to multiple pelvic fractures, megacolon and was unable to defecate without daily enemas and fluids. The owner was considering euthanasia. As a last resort, we started the cat on an all-natural vitamin supplement, patented for cats called Paaws.
277836 tn?1359666174 Okay I ned help my cat has dandruff and I am pretty sure it is coming from the lack of dry air here in the house it has been very cold.. Avatar n tn Our cat has had a persistent wheezy cough with a sometimes gagging response..so far with no vomitting. Also, picking him up will sometimes cause these symtoms to occur. we took him to the vet last october(2008) and the diagnosis was suspected asthma. He was given Prednisone 5mg for ten days, then with usual 10 day reduction schedule. he was also given Clavamox 62.5 tabs 1 orally every 12 hours until gone (20 days).
Avatar n tn My 6yr old male cat has allergic dermitis. He just had to get a shot last week b/c he had sores all over his belly from biting and scratching. Now he has a fat bottom lip. He had the same thing in February, got a shot and it went away. I read that fish based foods can cause allergies. He only eats chicken flavored food but I had just given him a salmon flavored treat a day or so before the lip flare up.
Avatar m tn My 7 yr old female cat has developed what appears to be dandruff thick skin flakes that slough off. Is this a cat's allergy or a dietary problem?
436973 tn?1217947089 The past couple of days I've noticed my cat has a lot of dandruff. she has had a little flakiness before, but this is quite a bit. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Avatar n tn My 10 year old cat has asthma. She wheezes after playing with her sister. Is there a homeopathic treatment such as Dr. Bach Flower remedy that would work?
658901 tn?1403814634 Are you seeing any blood in the diarrhea? If you are, please take your cat to the veterinarian as soon as possible for an exam and possibly xrays. If you are not seeing any blood, you can try to prepare a bland diet for your cat using white rice and chicken. Try to not give him any food for about 12 hours, only water, and then give him some small amounts of cooked white rice and boiled chicken. It is important that he only take a small amount (a couple of spoon fulls at most).
Avatar f tn If a cat is on sub-q fluids for a short time and becomes very lethargic, isn't that a sign of possible CHF? And wouldn't or shouldn't a veterinarian recognize that and stop the fluids and do an x-ray?
Avatar f tn I would ask your veterinarian for a FeLV/FIV test and an abdominal ultrasound (by a qualified veterinarian). Surely one or both of those test will be able to give you more information that may lead to a diagnosis/improved treatment that you are seeking. In the meantime, the fluid therapy and all that you have mentioned are appropriate. Fluids are economical and extremely beneficial - keep it up! Thank you for checking on lab tests so you can have some better direction.

Avatar f tn A pet store is no place to pursue medical care, no more than a department store would be for a person. If in doubt about your cats health see a licensed veterinarian for diagnosis and treatment recommendations. Please select and visit a veterinarian for your kitten. There is undoubtedy other issues to address, especially parasites such as worms, ear mites, ticks and others. Good luck!
683609 tn?1226764977 I checked him carefully for fleas, dandruff, rashes, ear mites and anything else I could think of but I don't see anything that could cause this... I am not working at the moment and I cant afford to go to the vet but I will if I really have no other choice, does anyone have any ideas?
Avatar m tn Unfortunately the symptoms that your cat has are not specific to any one disease so it may take a little bit of diagnostics (testing) and time to find the cause. That can be very frustrating for the owner and for the veterinarian trying to treat your cat. Sometimes we are left with treating the symptoms and not being able to identify the disease. Either way talk with your veterinarian. If they aren't able to talk a lot on the phone make an appointment time to go in and talk with them.
Avatar n tn I have a 13 year old neutered male cat with megacolon, chronic renal failure, and a narrow pelvis. My vet prescribed 0.5 ml of cisapride twice a day, 3 ml of lactulose twice a day, and a 1.5 inch strip of lax'aire twice a day to treat my cat's chronic constipation. Unfortunately, the medicine is not working. He still requires frequent trips to the vet to get enemas and is losing weight due to a loss of appetite.

Avatar n tn All of a sudden, the cat attacked her, I came out, and the cat attacked me. We sat on the couch, cat was fine again, ate some treats, when our feet touched the floor, cat freaked out again. Fangs out, growling, hissing, everything!! I mean cat was screaming! Normally, gentle loving cat. Had here from baby. Never been outside, got all shots, been spayed. We ran out of apartment, afraid to go back in. I am scared and don't know what to do.
Avatar f tn About a month ago my cat Riley, had really bad diarrhea, I called my vet and he said Riley has worms and do go and purchase deworming medication at the pet store or grocery store and follow the directions and if this did not work to bring him in, the deworming medication work and I also gave him children's Caopectate, and Riley is feeling much better and now I will be deworming him every 3 months.
Avatar f tn m not a veterinarian but from you initial profile you say your cat suffers from hyperthyroidism so that's another thing you veterinarian should be rechecking as well.
Avatar m tn This may sound bizarre, but we have a female rescue cat, now 3 years of age, who has been spayed three times. She was originally spayed and had her stitches when we adopted her at 3 months. She went on heat, and we took her back to the original Vet who did the operation again. She recovered had her stitches removed and then went on heat again.
Avatar n tn s nose so it may be causing the problem or it may just be there and not be the true cause. It was a good course of action for your veterinarian to place your cat on Doxycycline. Since there are still symptoms, it may be persistent Mycoplasma or there could be contributing bacteria or viruses. Herpes virus is very common in cats and a cat at a shelter has a very good chance of having been exposed to it. Even though the PCR was negative for Herpes, I don't know that I would rule it out.
