What I've found the best way to lose weight is to find your maintenance level (you can find a rough calculator online) that will tell you about how many calories you burn in an avg day. Subtract around 250 calories and you've found your ideal calorie amount! Keep in mind you should take exercise into account as well. You should be shooting around -2 lbs a week.
Avatar f tn Any balanced diet and exercise will help with weight loss. High protein and lower carbs are a decent idea. We do need some carbs, but a lot of people have lost a lot of weight by simply cutting anything white.... flour, bread, sugar, tortillas, rice, etc. Eat the healthiest food available. The short of it is, eating right, eating often but watching the caloric intake, drinking plenty of water and getting plenty of exercise.....
Avatar f tn Here is the answer to this question. In order to lose weight, you have to subtract calories. Safe weight loss is 1-2 lbs/week, so in order to lose 1 lb/week, you'd have to drop 500 calories from your BMR each day (1 lb is equal to 3500 calories, so 500 calories X 7 days = 3500 calories or 1 lb). OR you can drop 250 calories from your diet and increase exercise to use an additional 250 calories. Changing up calorie counts and exercises will help prevent plateau.
Avatar n tn Fasting is not for weight loss. It's for a lot of things, mostly spiritual or for cleaning out the system once in awhile, but is not a good way for lasting weight loss. A "diet" is by definition not a way to lose weight permanently. A permanent change in diet is. I have nothing against fasting, just using it for weight loss.

Avatar n tn good that you are getting exercise cuz that can help. You can try to stay within the calories to eat each day without the exercise to see if that doesn't help. Are you on any meds? Some meds make it difficult to lose weight. I found that carbs were my big issue and that I needed to eat different kinds of carbs to keep me healthy. I started to lose weight at two pounds per week and I have hypothyroidism which makes losing weight pain staking.

The main consideration is how well or poorly you digest the food you're choosing to eat and how the food you eat affects metabolism. Again, the same example I'm always posing, salmon is very high in fat and calories but won't make you fat unless you consume a ton of it.

You may have exceeded your carbs while losing weight and stumbled upon your tolerance for maintaining your new weight. Once weight loss resumes, move up in five-grams at a time. Watch out for sources of sugar and starches. Read labels carefully, Sauces, beverages and packaged foods all could have more sugar or starches than your body can handle.

No diet will cause you to keep weight off without adjusting either carbs or calories after you reach your target weight. I've been studying and it seems that we all could use a lot less carbs in our diet no matter what, and there are benifits in it for everyone.

If you, typically, eat a lot of bread and don't replace it with other carbs/calories, you'll probably lose weight, but if you do replace those calories with something else, you should maintain, as long as you don't replace them with too many calories. Are you giving up everything in the bread group, or just bread? Curious as to why you chose bread to give up. Interesting...

I started out taking it once a day in the morning. Then later twice per day. I helps me to control how much I eat. I started in January and now I'm 37 pounds down. But before I started to take this medicine I got away from red meats, sweets, white bread. Basically carbs all around. That got me into a good eating habit.
