Avatar f tn Mild foods like rice, rice noodles, vanilla yogurt, noodle soup, etc. were great . . . pad thai was a favorite too and that had some egg, spinach and tofu in it. Fresh blueberries and ginger ale are suppose to be good anti-nausea aids, you may want to try those. Trick is to find mild foods that are still nutritious too. It does get better with time. My appetite sure kicked in during 2nd trimester. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Don't start eating like crazy to gain weight. Just wait until your in your 20's and you gain all you want. Just focus on being healthy.
Avatar m tn mostly they eat tofu. But the Chinese are only half rice eaters, and those in the south -- in the north, they eat mostly wheat. China is a huge country with several different dietary traditions. Keep in mind these cultures also eat other beans, and are not vegetarians, but they do eat small portions of meat compared to Americans. Miso is eaten largely at breakfast, in a very small portion, mostly for cleansing purposes -- it's not a significant source of their daily protein.
Avatar n tn I hope you mean you are 187 and trying to lose weight instead of 87 lbs? Only a child should weight 87 pounds. Even if you are 4'11-5'0, you should weigh at least 100 pounds. If you are looking to eat healthy: look up recipes for fatty liver disease. It's pretty much a vegan diet plus protein (tofu, turkey, or chicken). No dairy except for non fat plain all natural greek yogurt. Google recipes made with greek yogurt.
5609181 tn?1375332372 What do we eat?! I've been starving for days cause I can't find anything to eat. I haven't eaten red meat in nearly ten years and carbs have always been a big part of my diet and now I have to significantly cut back and get frustrated when I go to eat something and then end up not eating. I know I need to be eating more than I am but I'm terrified of eating something I shouldn't be..
4238266 tn?1351628230 m used to Cereal or a bagel for breakfast, occasionally oatmeal, pasta or an apple and cheese and fresh bread for lunch, and pasta or mash potatoes and tofu for dinner , all mainly carbs my snacks consists of pretzels, garlic parmesan bread, and sometimes fruit, i realized when i went to the store if i didn't buy carbs i didn't know what to get !
Avatar n tn d, I was using soy/tofu as a good source of protein and calcium, besides trying to limit the amount of meat in my diet. (I would love to be able to go on a Vegan Gluten Free Diet as it lowers cholesterol among other healthful benefits. But, I am finding it soooooo hard to totally give up meat - mostly chicken and fish.) Fortunately, I love fruits, vegetables, beans and nuts.
Avatar m tn A protein shake is better than nothing, but from the years of studying I've done, fresh/frozen whole food is always best, because you get everything it has to offer... vegetables have tons of fiber (also known as complex carbs) that tend to slow digestion which helps keep you feeling fuller for hours longer than a glass of juice or a shake will do.
Avatar n tn Other useful supplements to consider are the essential amino acids that support Brain function.Since protein rich foods, eggs, Fish ,Lamb ,chicken ,Tofu , support allertness and concentration they make a good selection for breakfast and lunch, leave the more relaxing Carbs to the evening meal ie Fruits and Veg.it is helpful to avoid the common allergenic foods like Dairy and wheat.
Avatar f tn It depends on the kind of soy. Soy doesn't cause thyroid problems, but some people with Hashimoto's Disease, a form of hypothyroid autoimmune disease, can have bad reactions to soy. Soy milk is fine, tofu is fine, tempeh and other fermented soy products such as miso and natto and real soy sauce (this doesn't mean Kikkoman) are fine, fresh soy beans (edamame) are fine, but this shouldn't obviously be the sum total of your diet.
Avatar n tn If they are not *whole grain* (eg whole grain bread and brown rice) you are missing the fiber and many other vital nutrients found in complex carbs, and practically guaranteeing a rapid spike in blood sugar. For breakfast, add a tablespoon of nut butter (almond butter is more nutritious and more easily digested vs. peanut butter) to your whole grain toast, or a slice or two of lean turkey bacon or turkey sausage. What about eggs? They are an excellent inexpensive protein source.
193609 tn?1292180293 Well I think a low carb diet is anywhere from 25-50 carbs a day. I think depending on your weight now and height and with your activity level you have to check out what amount you need to start losing weight.
Avatar n tn Hey there! I don't think you need to limit yourself to a certain amount of carbs per day. I would recommend trying a high protein and high fiber diet. Also try meal planning. Having a plan will ensure that you aren't going overboard on carbs, and knowing how many carbs you'll have for each meal will help you plan your bolus more correctly.
Avatar n tn Carbs raise BG so restricting carbs will help BG. when you say 6 units I assume you mean 6 exchanges which is 90 gr of carbs. If you take 250 mg at each meal that is 750 mg a day, the limit is 2400mg a day so you have room to go up on the Met. It can take 6 to 8 weeks for met to become fully effective.
Avatar n tn This might help keep a journal of everything you eat , be honest and gradually add exercise like taking a slow walk and admiring nature. Think to yourself what you like about yourself and remember these things also You are in your 20's so you have time on your side! Set small goals with yourself and be kind and good to yourself and ask your Dr. how many calories you actually need for your height and weight. Congratulations on deciding to make a change!
172023 tn?1334672284 I'm making a General Tso's tofu. Had tons of great reviews, even by non tofu eaters on recipezaar.
Avatar f tn Whole grain cereal Fruit and yogurt Whole grain toast with peanut butter, fruit Hard boiled egg As long as you stay with complex carbs, which are those in whole grains, veggies, fruits, such as apples pears, etc.you should be okay. The complex carbs are the ones that provide fiber to keep you feeling fuller longer. Also be sure to get plenty of protein with every meal. Eggs and whole grains are excellent sources of protein, as is dairy.
4715985 tn?1371582997 Unfortunately one of my biggest food love ever aka meat, is my biggest adversion during this pregnancy. If i can eat a bit a chicken im super happy lol i was wondering if tofu is something you can eat while pregnant? Ive had it way before a long time ago and if i stuff it with loads of veggies and other flavors its pretty good. Its just im dying for a burger or spaghetti n meatballs. I was hoping to switch the meat for tofu. So is it safe to eat it?
Avatar n tn There is NO ideal carb count. Each of us is different. How many carbs you can handle without having your BG go too high (140 in the USA) is different than it is for me (I eat under 50gr a day). Google "eat to your meter" that will tell you haw many carbs YOU can eat.
Avatar f tn Carbs are in bread, pasta, veggies, etc. They are everywhere and they are good for you, complex carbs.
Avatar f tn (All quorn products are great for on a diet, I found because they are lower in calories and mainly better for you.) There will always be a quorn section in every supermarket. Other stuff you can get is soya and tofu products, but I dont find them as tasty, but you might ! Also these are great aswell- the bean family (baked bean, kidney bean etc), mushrooms, nuts, hummus, peas and lentils.
Avatar n tn Fermented or cultured soy is better, easier to digest, and richer in enzymes. Examples are tempeh, miso, natto, traditonally brewed tamari or shoyu. Soy yogurt isn't technically cultured, but has cultures added, so it's kind of in between. As for limited quantities and the thyroid issue, I can only say there are differences depending on where you come from. Obviously, if you lived in most of Asia, soy is a predominant source of protein in both fermented and non-fermented forms.
Avatar f tn From this observation, begin by taking out those foods and drink that are high in saturated fats and carbohydrates and intake foods that are of lean proteins (fish, chicken, tofu, etc.), low fat, and low carbs. Remember to drink lots of fluids - water, green teas, black teas, etc., which aids in good digestion and organ function. Contrary to what women may think, drinking water also assists with reducing that bloated feeling in the belly area.
