Carbs in rice and potatoes

Common Questions and Answers about Carbs in rice and potatoes

carb

Boy Whenever I have regular bread/potatoes/rice or pasta it raises my BG depending on how much I eat. I do monitor my carbs and since doing so have lowed my A1c from 7.3 to 6.2 without medications.
Avatar n tn Yes, traditional white table sugar is CARBS, but so is flour, rice, potatoes, fruit, and corn to name a few. You are in more danger from flour, rice, and potatoes than you are from a teaspoon full of sugar!!! Can you imagine eating a cup of sugar, teaspoon full by teaspoon full? Yuck. Now, imagine you are eating/drinking a cup of rice or potatoes or pasta or bread or applesauce or soda pop. Yummy? Danger Danger Will Robinson! Now you are beginning to understand CARBS.
Avatar m tn Hi, first i want to tell you that I am not diabetic. I think it is important that I tell you this so you can judge for yourself what I say. My Mom's husband is, and I always had lower blood sugar, so I do my best to follow a diabetic diet as I find I feel much better. Now in the foodregardss. You want your grains to be as close to nature as possible. Brown rice, not white rice. UncleBen'ss might be a lower score due to fat added in the rice mix?
Avatar f tn 1. "is it important that I also eat (breads, pasta, potatoes and rice in small quantities)?" Yes, eating these foods in small quantities is possible. But to each individual what is considered small, medium and large may differ. What you may consider small to another person may be medium. You must test preprandial and postprandial to see how much, if any, you can tolerate. 2. The difference between simple and complex carbs can be found on the GI.
Avatar f tn I been craving spanish rice and spicy chicken ench but i love potatoes with everything
Tbd Hi, the best way to avoid diabetes is to eat a diet that is low in carbohydrates, adequate in protein, and adequate in healthy fats. Please note that this way of eating is the opposite to that which has usually been promoted for 'health' which is low fat, high carb, and moderate protein.
Avatar n tn I LOVE LOVE LOVE BREAD AND POTATOES I LOVE MASHED POTATOES AND FRIES AND HASHBROWNS I HAVE BEEN CRAVING THEESE THINGS SO MUCH LATELY I EVEN LET MYSELF SPLURGE AT OLIVE GARDEN LAST WEEKEND THE THE CRAVINGS ARE STILL HERE ... WHAT TO DO ?
Avatar f tn oh and with the carbs, i wasnt talking about simple carbs(white bread, white rice, pasta) but complex carbs like brown rice, whole wheat breads, oatmeal, wholewheat pastas, sweet potatoes....you can eat white rice and bake potatoes as well, but try and get as many complex carbs in your system as you can, they dont convert to sugars like simple carbs do and they take usually at least 8 hours to digest and the body uses them up as engery not as fat!!
Avatar f tn Right now, even though you are only eating fruits and rice and chapati, your diet is mainly sugars and carbs. I know how important rice is for an Asian diet. But honestly... to control weight gain you have to reduce it to very little or none at all. It's only 9 months. Try to reduce your rice/chapati to once a weeks at the most. In order to control my own weight, I ate cooked vegetables, lean meats, and fish. How your food is prepared is very important too.

Avatar f tn simple carbs are those found in sugary foods, white breads and regular pasta, sodas, etc. Simple carbs are broken down quickly and if not used right away for energy, will be stored as fat. These are the ones that should be avoided. Complex carbs are those found in vegetables, most fruits and whole grains. Complex carbs are the dietary fiber we need, to fill us up. These take longer to break down and are not absorbed, as fat.
Avatar m tn my question is how do you stop lithium induced carb cravings? when i eat meat and vegetables i feel full and satisfied but later in the morning i get this craving for bread and potatoes. its a vicious cycle i can't let go of. please help me with this dilemma.
193609 tn?1292180293 This is just my opinion here, but carbs are not the enemy when it comes to weight loss. At least they don't have to be. I've never been into the whole low carb craze and always knew it would be a way of life I would never be able to stick with for the rest of my life. Personally, I have anywhere in the mid to late 100's and sometimes even well into the low 200g carbs a day and have for the last year and a half and yet I've lost 165 lbs.
594189 tn?1386916607 Smart carbs tend to be whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables. Basically things high in fiber are smart carbs. I thinking that milk is a protein? Going with Skim or 1% is good. I have much to learn myself yet but I do know that I have been basically following the Canadian Food Guide which highly promotes whole grains.
Avatar n tn While this probably isn't the most healthy thing to do, the best way to achieve this is to cut all starch/carbs eg. Bread, potatoes, rice etc. And cut all sugar (other than natural sugars in fruit). Basically go paleo and you'll drop the water weight in a few days.
Avatar f tn My daughter got T2 in her 6th month. She has one month remaining. Were you T2 before your became pregnant? My daughter has made an amazing impact on her glucose levels, by doing what I do: Treat carbs like they're a poison to your body. I don't calculate glycemic loads, or consider good carbs and bad carbs. Rather, I avoid them entirely if at all possible. Now... I live on handfuls of almonds, peanuts, walnuts, and cashews. Cheese!.
Avatar n tn ll need to eat more fat and protein along with whole grain slowly digestible carbs. Avoid highly process carbs and cakes, candies, cookies - things which break down easily and will raise your sugar.. Make sure you put fat with your carbs as it also slows down the absorption. Use natural fats as much as possible. Ie butter or cream in your potatoes, cream in your coffee. Do not use low fat foods. Regular fat cheese and yogurt, etc. Eat the fat from your meats.
Avatar m tn you can eat white rice and bake potatoes as well, but try and get as many complex carbs in your system as you can, they don’t convert to sugars like simple carbs do and they take usually at least 8 hours to digest and the body uses them up as energy not as fat!!
Avatar n tn You are in far more danger from potatoes rice and flour than you are from sugar. (Danger-regular soda pop and fruit juices are the exception-too much sugar in them unless they are a diet version.) I have a new appreciation of taking a baby aspirin or two per day. Cherry-flavored baby aspirin is just like dessert so make it your after-dinner mint! All veggies were not made equal. Avoid corn and this includes popcorn.
Avatar n tn Carbs are necessary for energy production, but there are 2 types of carbs - simple and complex. Simple carbs include things like bread, potatoes, white rice, pasta, etc. Simple carbs cause blood glucose levels to spike when we eat them. Complex carbs are those contained in whole grains (fiber), vegetables, etc. They take longer to digest so don't increase glucose levels as much.
Avatar f tn My nutritionist put me on a plan of 45g carbs per meal, breakfast lunch and dinner, and three snacks per day at about 15-20g carbs in each snack. High protein to give you energy and all the veggies you want, to fill you up. I eat lots of green salads with lean meat (baked chicken, usually).
7628588 tn?1392763151 No rice, potatoes, and most beans as they are high in carbs. No pasta!! If you really need a slice of bread, look for the "old world" breads available. These contain lots of fiber, and are slow to process. .....and learn to read labels on food containers. Look at the total weight of the carbs versus the fiber. I could be bothered with learning glycemic loads of foods. Instead I adopted this way of eating, and it has worked extremely well for me.
Avatar n tn Maybe try foods with more carbs or starch to help regulate you. Dry Cereal, Bread, rice, potatoes. I hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn Also, no deep frying, no butter, but olive oil and canola instead. No more rice, pasta, potatoes, flour.... My Dad eats that way for 5 yearsby now, is very healthy and lost 30 kgs during the first year. Good luck!
Monkey loc=GlobalNavFF Avoid foods made with white flour [breads, crackers], starchy foods like white rice and potatoes, pasta [Dreamfields brand has only 5% digestible carbs], as these elevate blood sugars rapidly. Instead, eat whole grains, vegetables, fish, lean poultry [remove the skin] and lean meats. Eat fruits with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose [fruit sugar]. Understand the difference between Simple and Complex carbs.
804966 tn?1261895278 Outside of breakfast try to reduce your white carbs (potatoes, white rice, white pasta, white breads) and eat more complex and healthy carbs (sweet potatoes, brown rice, brown rice pasta, and whole grain bread). Reduce your consumption of fatty meats and exchange for lean meats, fish, and chicken. Try adding beans and legumes to your diet. Add vegetables and look for delicious ways to cook them. Try the Healthy Cooking forum here on MedHelp for some great recipes.
Avatar f tn I walk a lot! 20 miles a week most weeks. I wear a water weight loss belt that makes my stomach sweat profusely. It gives me instant gratification. But for the more long term results, I stay away from unnecessary salt and processed carbs. I also don't eat good carbs(brown rice, whole wheat pasta, Sweet potatoes) after lunch. Soups and salads are a girls best friend!
