Avatar f tn generally dinner is pretty healthy with foods like chicken/fish/vegetables/etc.) instead of eating crackers dipped in chocolate sauce all day long until lunch or dinner comes along. While I understand that results shouldn't be showing in a span of 3 days, during my diet I've been steadily gaining weight instead. Is this because I'm cutting down on the /massive/ (no, seriously) amounts of sugar I used to take in or something?

Avatar n tn Our doctor gave us no idea on how to accomplish this. I was told by someone else she needs to take in 250 - 300 grams of carbs per day. Is there a list somewhere of foods and there carb value. Also which are good carbs and which are empty carbs? Gaining 1/4 of her body weight seems excessive.

Avatar f tn If you want some carbs, then eat wheat pasta, or whole grain crackers. I put Tuna on whole grain crackers. These are complex carbs and do not cause insulin spike. Obviosly NO sugar at all. It is instanty converted into fat. Eat the right food and you can pig out on them and still loose weight. No need to go hungry. Do a Google search for a list of complex carbohydrate foods. This will give you all the choices you have regarding carbs.

Avatar m tn Hi, first i want to tell you that I am not diabetic. I think it is important that I tell you this so you can judge for yourself what I say. My Mom's husband is, and I always had lower blood sugar, so I do my best to follow a diabetic diet as I find I feel much better. Now in the foodregardss. You want your grains to be as close to nature as possible. Brown rice, not white rice. UncleBen'ss might be a lower score due to fat added in the rice mix?
Avatar f tn I find rice cakes are a quick choice too. If you buy the brown rice or wholegrain rice ones, they are a lot less dense then bread but will give you some carbohydrates for energy and they are very light. If you chop up some lettuce or tomato before you go and prepare it, they'll be really quick to eat :) Some wholegrain bars are ok too... but you have to be careful and read the labels because some of them aren't that healthy.

When foods are quickly digested, the sugar from these foods are absorbed into the blood stream rapidily thus elevating blood sugar levels. • Lose the body fat. Number 1 reason for t2 diabetes is obesity. Many have reversed their diabetes by shedding the extra poundage. Not saying you will but being at normal weight makes you feel good.
Avatar f tn My nutritionist put me on a plan of 45g carbs per meal, breakfast lunch and dinner, and three snacks per day at about 15-20g carbs in each snack. High protein to give you energy and all the veggies you want, to fill you up. I eat lots of green salads with lean meat (baked chicken, usually).
Avatar f tn my MD told me to eat easily digestable carbs. such as rice, etc... the protein is not easily digestable and sticks around for a long time, he explained that anything you can keep down is better then not keeping anything down.. good luck to you,.

This means you will eat lean meats in moderation, plenty of green and brightly colored veges, moderate whole grain cereals, some fruits - but stay away or limit portions of very sweet fruits, nuts, some dairy, healthy fats / oils. Bad carbs could be considered those white carbs that break down quickly. This includes bread, white rice, cookies, candies etc.

Lunch time he gets a sandwich on whole wheat bread ususally ham and cheese. a bag of low fat torilla chips and a water and a sugar free drink. afternoon snack is usually a banana or an kind of fruit. For dinner he eats a large portion of meat, some kind of starch (rice or potatoes) and ususally 2 different vegetables broccoli or green beans.

Now, simple carbs, such as white bread and sugar, do tend to be less expensive than whole foods, but since they tend to lack nutrients, you don't have to eat as much of more nutrient packed foods to get your energy, so less food needs to be purchased. Avatar m tn There is nothing wrong with eating grains as long as they are whole grains. There is nothing wrong with eating carbs -- all vegetables are carbs. It's the simple carbs that are the problem. And eating grains doesn't mean you have to eat flour -- you can just eat the grain, just as you do with brown rice or oatmeal. The real problem grain is wheat, because it's human-invented -- there is no wild wheat.

For example, potatoes, white rice, foods made with white flour - breads, crackers, etc. Eat lean meats, fish, poultry and vegetables. Avoid snacking before bedtime. Avatar m tn I absolutely have no sweets and switched to sprouted grain bread (no flour and has a low GI) and high fiber carbs which are better for your blood sugars. I gave up sweets, junk food, crackers/cookies/chips, ice cream for the most part with an occasional indulgance of 1/2 cup serving, and gave up rice and have only whole grain pasta. So, if he's serious like that, maybe he can avoid the medication entirely. But, you have to run everything by the doctors.
