Avatar n tn For me, male and little older, the normal range is 150-450. So at 470, or so, it's not big out of the range. I have read that that the absence of a spleen can be a possible reason for increased platelets in the blood since the spleen is a storge facility for platelets. No docs here. Maybe talk to the doc a let him know that 'don't worry' does not mean you won't worry. Maybe he can give a brief layperson explanation that can put you at ease.
Avatar f tn My platelets were in the 90,000 range for 20 years and started to fall further as my fibrosis got worse. My platelets have remained between 55,000 & 65,000 for many years but my INR numbers have been perfect. Platelets that make it through an enlarged spleen can be deformed so it is hard to accurately count the actual number. "IF" my liver gets better over time as I hope it will, and my PHT gets better my IDS believes that my platelets will increase.

There is no way other than a platelet tranfuion to raise platelets however good nutrition and things like beets ( or beet powder)are known to improve platelet counts. People DO treat with platelets as low as yours, I hope some who had that experience will post to you. Take care and get another opinion, one from a doctor who treats hep c often would be best.
Avatar n tn He will not be concerned until they hit the 25-30 range and tells me there is no risk at this time. When not on treatment platelets are usually around 100-115. So, it sounds likee you are not in a danger zone now but your ongoing hcv is probably the cause of them being low. If the doc monitors you levels on a regular basis, that might be ok. But, you still have the undelying cause to have continuing disccussions with you hcv doc.

(The amount of platelets in the bloodstream is thus reduced because the larger spleen traps more of them). The blood is frequently “shunted” around the liver to return to the heart by smaller vessels, which may become enlarged. In the stomach and esophagus these engorged blood vessels are termed “varices” and are at increased risk of bleeding, which is another major complication of cirrhosis.

" Your platelet counts are as you say within the normal range. Which is just that, "normal". It doesn't get any better than normal. Your platelet counts are all (except one slightly lower 147 which is meaningless) are all within the normal range. 150,000 - 450,000 typically at most labs.
