Avatar f tn Does a persons age play a factor for their "normal" fasting glucose range? During my last visit to my 82 yo mother, I happened to see her test results that showed her fasting glucose range topping out at 180 mg. I, on the other hand, being 60 yo & under immunosuppressant meds have a range from 50 - 150 mg, yet I constantly hear the normal range is 70 - 120. Both of our blood samples are tested at the same lab too. So what is the "normal" fasting glucose range?
1813627 tn?1337725975 a blood glucose test is normal when you first see the doctor around 8 to 10 weeks if your doctor thinks you have a risk factors for gestational diabetes such as being overweight. I am overweight and the doctor does 1 for me at 8 weeks and then again later on at the normal time. also your number could have been high if you didn't fast the night before.
Avatar f tn Please can someone explain to me what exactly is this glucose test all about.
869568 tn?1248376515 Hello. I had my 1 hour glucose test completed this morning. The range (I'm told) is 70-139. My result was 139. I see the doctor next week and I'm guessing she'll have me do the 3 hour test since I'm at the cut off. Has anyone else had to do the 3 hour test? What is it like?
11195379 tn?1427925127 8) so now i have gd. Ive read that drinking 3 glasses of water could help lower blood glucose. During my test i wasnt allowed to move around but could drink some water..but i didnt...so im wondering had i drank water if my level would be lower? I was so focused on keeping the horrid lucozade down (they cancel the test if you throw up) that i was almost napping in my chair for 2hrs. So im going to try hydrating from now on.
Avatar f tn If you fail the glucose test means you have gestational diabetes thats what the glucose test is for
9358102 tn?1418676967 It's says normal range is 139 I got 144.. so I'd they did it to soon it might of affected it.. I would think and I'm not taking about a min too soon I'm thinking more like 10 mins..
Avatar f tn I did one at 6 weeks and failed it miserably. They did it that soon because diabetes runs in my family and they wanted to make sure I wasn't already diabetic. I just did my gestational diabetes test and my results were "Glucose within normal range." Turns out the first Dr I went to did the test wrong, didn't have me fast nor did they check my glucose before having me drink that nasty stuff.
Avatar n tn Hello, I'm a volunteer and not a medical professional so please check with your doctor to address any concerns you have regarding your particular condition. With that said, below is an excerpt from the Virginia Mason clinic website: https://www.virginiamason.org/body.cfm?id=511 which states the norms for blood sugar levels: "A fasting blood glucose test. This test is performed after you have fasted (no food or liquids other than water) for eight hours.
Avatar n tn two, I would get an A1c test to verify normal glucose level. If the A1c results are normal, don't fret anymore.
Avatar f tn As part of the blood tests I had it show hemoglobin as part of my CBC which was in normal range. Do you know if this is the same as an A1c test?
143123 tn?1274304425 Shows that my glucose is normal, but my insulin is high. I've never had issues with this and the nurse told me "there's a first time for everything"...which didn't sit well with me, but that's beside the point. They told me I have to exercise more, eat healthier (which isn't a problem, because my husband is a Type I diabetic, so we eat healthy), and start taking Glucophage (Generic Name: Metformin).
Avatar f tn I asked the nurse if everything was alright and was told that my blood glucose levels were somewhat higher than normal but would have to wait a week to talk with the doctor. I am very concerned and slightly anxious. Does this mean that I could have diabetes? I am somewhat overweight but have been trying to lose the pounds. My blood pressure was fine when the doctor checked 110/70.
Avatar m tn Hi Dr. I took my 1 hour tolerance test last week. I was given 50 grams of glucose and my blood was tested an hour later. My results came back 126, which is supposedly normal. My concern is that with my son (pregnant a year ago) my test came back at 95. I sent a message to my office, because I it appears that my body is not processing sugar as well and the nurse just waved it off, saying it was in normal range. Do you think I should be monitoring my sugar more closely?
Avatar f tn I had my A1C tested the other day right at my doctor's office - it was almost an "instant read" type of thing - nurse put the sample in a machine and had the reading in about 5 minutes. (I have no idea what type of machine i twas though, sorry). She said my A1c was good - it was a 6. What is the "normal" range for an A1C? I've recently been diagnosed with T2.
Avatar m tn After my blood sugar has returned to normal levels (101 mg/dL in 3 hours) can I be sure that I shouldn't have any symptoms of hypoglycemia or on the other hand if my blood sugar levels are in the normal range, I shouldn't have any symptoms of hypoglycemia? Or there is a possibility to suffer from hypoglycemia symptoms when your blood glucose levels are within the range?
Avatar n tn I had a 2 hr glucose tolerance test. The results came back in the normal range but seem odd. My fasting glucose was 5.0 mmol/L 2 hours after the glucose drink my level was 4.4 mmol/L. Shouldn't the second test be higher than the first? My Dr said I have reactive hypoglycemia. Would this be diagnosed from these results?
Avatar n tn ) Dinner is at 8, with a substantial snack to replace the 3rd meal (about 60 carbs) about 2 hours before bed. The past 3 days everything is wacky. If I eat the normal way I do my glucose goes up. If I don't eat my glucose goes up. I have had 3 readings over 200, which I have never approached before. I would have considered 160 high before. I still have the last bottle of my medication in the house and started taking it again, but it does not seem to help much.
Avatar f tn You go into the lab and you can't eat or drink anything for the last 10-12 hours except small sips of water (do it early in the morning if possible) they give you this sugary drink (taste kinda like orange soda pop) that you have to drink within 5 minutes then you wait an hour then they draw some blood. It's done to make sure your blood sugar levels are at a normal range and that you don't have gestational diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I am a dietetic student who just finished working at a camp for children with type 1 diabetes. As part of the staff we were all given blood glucose monitors to help check the kids (even though I don't have diabetes). We were allowed to keep the monitors and I have been doing some random blood glucose checks on myself when I am not feeling well to help myself better understand lows.

Avatar f tn I was worried about it but after doing the 3 hour test everything came back in normal range. Its actually very normal to fail the 1 hour. Don't try to do anything differently because if you do have GD you will need to have it controlled and be monitored. Honestly even with that high of levels(mine was about the same) the results of the 3 hour may come back completely fine. So try not to worry. Hope it goes well!
Avatar f tn I did mine yesterday at 4 35pm and they didn't make me fast.the normal range is 65-139. I tested 150 so now i have the 3hr test thursday morning. Im very depressed, what was your score?
Avatar n tn My last blood draw showed 2 points over the normal range so i had to get a meter n keep track of my blood sugar.
Avatar f tn I go back Monday for the 3 hour test. Anyone know what the normal range is? Also, they told me I did not have to fast first, and I had a sandwich about 45 minutes before the orange drink. Does anyone think that would have had a real effect? I am somewhat concerned mainly because I have had constant yeast infections for over 3 months. I know high blood sugar can bea cause. I have to do a 7 day treatment now, because the 1 day, and 3 day were not efective enough.
131073 tn?1252454452 After my first glucose test (which was a fasting glucose test) I went straight to the local hash house and had steak and eggs. Fasting followed by over-sweetened orange soda is not the way to start the day, LOL. Try some heavily protein oriented meal.
189192 tn?1261345228 The normal range is 65 to 139. They've asked me to come back for a 3 hour test. I'm worried. Has anybody had a one hour test come back high and a three hour test come back normal?
Avatar n tn When my daughter was on shots if she wanted to sleep late I would get up test her blood and give her insulin, or she would test eat and g back top bed. That is one reason we switched to the insulin pump so that she did not have to have a regimented lifestyle. I would suggest talking with your doctor and see how much of a time span he says your daughter can go with out check from her normal time.
Avatar n tn Her sugar levels were at 107 four hours after eating and the doctor told me to take her for a glucose test, however the endocrnologist said that 107 was normal and wouldn't do the test. I am out of answers and my baby seems to just keep getting worse, and I don't know what to do. Please help me, give me something to look for, any suggestions would be helpful, please.
