Avatar n tn I know that you are never supposed to go off an AD or anti-anxiety quickly due to the rebound effects. The meds caused such sleeplessness, anxiety, mood swings, etc., much like an AD so it would make sense that this is happening now. Has anyone experienced anything similar and for how long?
Avatar n tn Dear Maria Celexa (citalopram) is usually used at a dose of 20 - 40 mg/day in the treatment of depression. 20 mg/day is the recommended dose for most elderly patients. It should be used atleast for a period of 4 to 6 weeks for positive response. In elderly patients, dosage is increased under close observation after few weeks of no response. Side effects usually resolve after a few weeks.
Avatar n tn Pneumonia is a serious medical condition that requires aggressive treatment, especially in the elderly population. MANY older people succomb to Pneumonia. Do you happen to know what "kind" of Pneumonia she was diagnosed with? A more common type of Pneumonia in the elderly is called "Aspiration Pneumonia", this is when food and fluids are sneaking down into the trachea (windpipe) rather than down the esophagus to the stomach, where it is supposed to go.
666152 tn?1225389158 I wasn't being negative about what you were saying per se, I only meant that his weight loss was more than likely from his cancer treatment and not the excercise and protein diet that can do it also. Excercise is great, I worked out with weights for the first 3 months of treatment until my Tachcardia scared me and I stopped for 5 months. I have since resumed and am as strong if not stronger than before treatment.

248167 tn?1220367290 I am not sure, but I think transient ischemic attacks happen a lot of the time in the elderly, although I suppose could happen in someone younger if they have underlying health issues. I do not know if you take anything for anxiety, but there are a lot of good medications out there to help reduce anxiety, as well as medications for tingling and numbness related to neurological causes. I hope you feel better soon.

Avatar f tn I was not prescribed Prozac, I am on Cipramil, but it takes 2 weeks according to my doctor for the drug to start working and can make anxiety temporarily increase when you first start taking it. Try not to think about if it is working or not because that will also increase your anxiety as well. Avatar f tn Thank you for your responses regarding my post. I have been on paxil and xanax when I was first diagnosed with anxiety attacks and that form of therapy seemed to help considerably. I too noticed the hand tremors with Paxil. When I was taken off Paxil the hand tremors stopped.
Avatar f tn I am not a Dr, but have worked with the elderly in a professional capacity in the past. My own grandmother is 93 nearly 94 and in a supported living care situation. She has maintained her independence to an extent but is monitored in her own apartment. Truthfully, she improved markedly when she elected (with some family encouragement) to sell her home and move into a supported living environment.
Avatar n tn like i said you will get more answers on another column, as this is for caregivers, mostly for the elderly .
Avatar f tn I have now just realised that the pill has probably (though not confirmed by a dr) been a big factor to my anxiety as i was anxiety free while off the pill for 3 years or even if i did have anxiety in those 3 years it was not unbearable.
543435 tn?1282246279 What, with the worst case scenarios racing through my mind. ... worrying about the care of my 2 elderly parents who depend on me for almost everything. ... thinking about my 2 aunts who battled Breast Cancer. ... wondering if years of healthy dieting; keeping my weight down; and exercising was all a waste of time. ... plus, I had fallen deeply in love with a wonderful man who had just entered my life; and I felt that I was about to lose him.
5112396 tn?1378021583 ) and have begun to volunteer teaching IT skills to senior citizens at the local advocacy charity for the elderly. But these are balls I got rolling by myself, not with her help. I'm proud of that, so the sting of what she said is fading into the insignificance it deserves. Thank you again for hearing me out on this. I really, truly value this community. Hugs to all.
1670856 tn?1316777368 To learn more about DVT, what causes it, the symptoms and treatment and who is at greater risk for developing this condition, I would recommend going to the Mayo Clinic, the Cleavland Clinic or the NIH (National Institue of Health) websites for accurate information. There are a number of causes for DVT, but three of the most common are a family history, being immobile for long periods of time or recent surgery.

Avatar f tn The Facility only kept the Clients on the Suboxone for a week. The reason you have to wait a certain amount of time before you can take the Suboxone is because if you take it too soon after your last dose of a Narcotic you can have a very severe reaction. The Treatment Facility I was at started me off on a Dose that was based on the amount of Vicodin I had been taking daily. Then during the course of the week the Suboxone was tapered and stopped.

Avatar m tn I was on the 100mcg every 72 hours for about a year. The upside of the patch is that it releases a steady stream of the medication into your system. This reduces the highs and lows experienced with oral medications. (the feeling of the meds "wearing off") It was also nice not to have to remember to take a bunch of pills with me wherever i went. The downside.
607502 tn?1288251140 But in that family no one knew anything was wrong except for the one person in treatment (even before recovery) which was me and since a lot of the symptoms were being hateful and passive aggressive and I often was the receiving end of it I got sick of it. But every Christmas less and less family members on that side showed up and my grandmother on that side of the family said one year (with seriousness) "this is the last year I do this" but I guess had a second opinion next year.
