Social anxiety treatment plan

Common Questions and Answers about Social anxiety treatment plan

Avatar m tn His teacher stated there were more students in the class and she believed he was having social anxiety issues. That information along with odd behaviors he exhibits with me when we are in an environment with large amounts of people sounded logical to me. I took him to the Pediatrician and he was prescribed Zoloft 25mg once daily because he too thought he had Social Anxiety Disorder.
Avatar n tn Anxiety is an inherited trait and I suspect your son has inherited this gene. It was there at birth so the divorce, although this could exacerbate the issue, did not cause it. Whether your son suffers from separation or panic or social or some other form of anxieity is irrelevant (although I suspect it is social anxiety). Since your son is unble to function in certain social situaitons, it might be wise to educate yourself on this disorder.
Avatar n tn The goal of the evaluation will be to figure this out and, once figured out, to develop a treatment plan. One component of such a plan should be a social problem-solving/social skills group.
Avatar f tn Am I wrong to make him play? -- your question No. But, by your own words, "it's the same process every year". I feel that your son suffers from an anxiety "disorder" (probably social anxiety) which is different from being anxious or shy. Anxiety disorders affect the physical, emotional and mental aspects of a person and as thus, requires specialized help in learning how to "manage" one's fears/anxieties.
Avatar n tn I've never had a girl friend (impossible) and I don't plan to get married. My social anxiety kicks in when I'm standing in line for something, at the bank getting my check cashed, etc. When it hits me I lose control of my body. I can't remember what I wanted to say or certain parts of my body might jerk such as a shoulder. My hands won't obey me and might fumble over something when reaching for a pen to sign something at a counter. That's how it usually is.
Avatar m tn primarily used for short-term anxiety treatment. Not very sedating and not addictive at all. 3. A benzodiazepine (xanax, valium, librium; psychoactive anti-anxiety drug): primarily for short-term anxiety relief. Benzodiazepines are very fast-acting, but can be highly addictive. I would not even recommend benzodiazepines except that you intend to use medication for short-term relief. They can be very addictive. Of these, I would try either xanax or librium.
Avatar f tn When I hit teenage years I was very depressed, but slowly i've noticed it became more anxiety. I have met someone in which I see a lot of good with, but I also have the things that I find to bother me. I am so protective, and cannot deal with certain people. My boyfriend has a lot of friends and I am not one to hangout with a lot of people, I am an infp type.
127512 tn?1193745816 I was just wondering does anyone here get social security for their anxiety/panic attacks? I have suffered for many many years and can no longer work. I also have a heart murmur and miteral valve prolapse.
Avatar f tn I have always struggled with some strange form of social anxiety/low self esteem, and could never quite get to the root of it. Interestingly enough, because I have out of neccessity developed a very high sensitivity for cognitively picking up on social cues, I am able to perform quite well, if not thrive, in cross cultural scenarios. Some other cultures embrace ideas such as being forthwrite in general and also apprehensive about new people, etc., which suits me.
Avatar n tn It is possible that your son is suffering from an anxiety disorder (perhaps social anxiety). Many of our children who have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder have also been diagnosed with depression as well as sensory integration dysfunction and expressive/receptive learning disorder. Please do as the previous poster expressed - do keep in touch with your family pediatrician.
Avatar n tn I suggest that you seek professional evaluation so that you can develop a treatment plan that allows her to overcome her anxiety. Since social anxiety can be serious, I would not suggest doing this without professional evaluation.
Avatar n tn If your child is severe in her anxiety, I suspect you will not be able to do this alone. Treatment can last years. By the way, after a relaxing holiday (even a week-end), children often have a difficult time re-adjusting to the perceived "unsafe" school environment. Summer and Christmas vacations are especially difficult. Our own child was diagnosed at four years of age with severe anxiety and was placed on medication at six years of age as there were no other avenues left.
Avatar m tn You understand it well, there is no CURE for anxiety disorders, but they CAN be managed well with a broad based treatment plan. I absolutely agree with you about the meds. If you weren't taking Xanax every day, where it would cause a dependency and tolerance issue (which actually ends up cauing MORE problems), and you were only taking it "as needed" to help your anxiety, then there should be no reason you couldn't still be on it.
Avatar n tn The treatment for selective mutism is a multi-modal approach - usually involving intervention, therapy and possibly medication. If the social anxiety/selective mutism is quite severe, medication will be used to "take the edge off" so that the other methods can be affective. Other therapies as art and play might also be of use - in our area, our psychologist will not attempt CBT with a child until 8 or 9 years of age.
Avatar m tn Relax and take some deep breaths. Sounds like your feel anxiety about anxiety. Make an appointment to have a complete physical. You don't know what exactly is causing this. But there is medication for anxiety that can really help you. First go find out it's not something else. People don't normally feel this way. When you go to the ER they do tell you to see your doctor for follow up. What are you waiting for.
Avatar f tn Im afraid of becoming addicted to them, and from what I hear most anxiety medication is highly addictive so I have put off any sort of treatment for my anxiety.
Avatar m tn Thank You sooooooooo much. I am going to try your suggestions. I to, used to be able to drive the freeway like a crazy person. I actually LOVED the freeway & driving itself now I fear it everyday. I take back roads to work & have not driven the xpressway in a year but I want to so bad. I try to tell myself that this is NOT going to control me & some days are good & I feel like I can drive forever...but most days are a real challenge. I have trouble at stop lights....
Avatar n tn I guess they are afraid that I'm going to commit suicide. Any comments on the Social Security? My initial request and the reconsideration were denied.
Avatar n tn Why doesn't the Doc mention that you need to look at your eating habits? Doctors talk alot about seasonal depression, but never seem to notice that during the fall and winter months it is also the time of year when we consume the most processed sugar in the form of halloween candy, thanksgiving cakes, pies and goodies and then comes Christmas with all the sugary **** we eat then. Most Doctors don't make much money off of telling us to eat less sugar.
220090 tn?1379170787 Each time I took interferon, it left me with Attention Deficit Disorder that was long lasting. Each treatment seemed to be additive. After my last treatment that ended in 2008, I ended up with full blown ADD that made me impulsive and seriously detracted me to the point that I could not read and process anything that was very detailed. I spent much of my career managing large software projects, so I was very lucky this didn't happen until after I retired.
Avatar f tn Whenever medication is included as part of the overall treatment plan, it is extremely important to work closely with the prescribing physician or therapist. Medications Prescribed for ADD and ADHD include: Adderall - Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and nerves that contribute to hyperactivity and impulse control. Adderall is used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Avatar n tn I recommend an evaluation by a psychiatrist as this information would be helpful to determine an effective treatment plan. Best Wishes, HFHS M.D.
Avatar m tn But I have been diagnosed with A social anxiety disorder. I get really nervous and closterphobic (sp) around big groups. Or even something as simple as running to the store triggers it. It's just something I live with daily. So I kinda know what u mean. It's no fun.
Avatar m tn I think that everyone with an anxiety disorder should be put on an antidepressant med, benzo meds can be add for 4-6 weeks at the begining of the treatment to decrease the anxiety but they sould be withdraw slowly after that 4-6 weeks period... Finding the good antidepressant is not always easy... And the newer ones like the Pristiq or the Lexapro are not necessary the ones with the less side-effects or the best!!!
Avatar m tn Coz I just know that sport and a more healhty lifestyle is the number one treatment against anxiety or panic disorder. So my advice for you is that whatever it takes find a way back into physical activity. Anxiety and panic disorder can be treated, but it are those very first steps that look so scary that need to be conquered first. I do will follow your post from close by and keep you updated about my own progress. Good luck!
Avatar m tn I'm going to try cbt ! The psychologist I got on the phone sound really nice and she made me feel like I'm not a weird guy and that it wouldn't be easy but it's completely possible to get ride of social anxiety!
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar f tn It would be essential at this point for your psychiatrist to explain your diagnosis and further evaluate the symptoms you are describing and your treatment. Some of the changes you are describing can occur in bipolar such as sudden episodes of anger but only a psychiatrist could determine specifics. If they would note bipolar could potentially part of it a full mood stabilizer is generally what is helpful but they would have to make that decision within their clinical discretion.
Avatar f tn This may not be depression in her case, but there is a good chance it could be and a good psychiatrist should be able to determine this. As for the treatment of clinical depressive and anxiety dissorder..... there is no cure, BUT it can be treated and managed. In most cases this condition is a lifelong affliction, but with proper treatment it can be put back in a remissive state. That doesn't mean that it is gone forever though. Oh, you mentioned how smart and intelligent your daughter is.
