1086863 tn?1278630315 Some of us have mental issues that require medication. I practice many techniques to reduce anxiety, but know medication is a base I must work from. When my son was murdered by his father four months ago, I was recovering from anal cancer, I had brief grief-induced negative thoughts, which I've resolved with the help of a therapist I can see at no charge at the cancer hospital. I am glad to hear you have an answer to your anxiety.
Avatar f tn Im afraid of becoming addicted to them, and from what I hear most anxiety medication is highly addictive so I have put off any sort of treatment for my anxiety.
Avatar m tn I have recently been prescribed Ativan for a social anxiety disorder but I am concerned that this medication will cause me to gain weight and seems to have much more side effects than Wellbutrin, so should I request to be changed to Wellbutrin which does not have as many side effects - mainly causing weight gain.
3183328 tn?1351183517 I agree with the above poster that the decision to use medication as one tool in the treatment of anxiety, is a unique and personal one. Peronally, for ME, anti-anxiety medication gave me the "courage" if you will, to face a lot of my fears. When the anxiety would get severe, I just couldn't do certain things (like drive, or go far from my home, etc). I took Ativan "as needed" and would often take one before an anxiety-producing situation. It helped a LOT.
Avatar f tn ask him why he chose the med he did for your condition, and if it would be the most optimal choice for treatment of concurrent anxiety in addition to the heart issues. Then you could ask about the Inderal.
Avatar n tn I think the best medication for prolonged anxiety is klonopin..it directly effects the anxiety centers in the brain. The other two medications effect anxiety secondarily, not as strongly. Your best treatment is a combination of therapy and klonopin.

1843685 tn?1319457503 What approach have you found to be more effective in the treatment of anxiety and depression?

Avatar f tn He or she most likely will be able to make a very simple adjustment in your depression medication if needed or may decide to add an adittional medication to address your anxiety issue or change the medication altogether. I do not know for how long you have been on the antidepressant. If it hasn't been very long, it could be that you may just need a little more time before the beneficial effects kick in all the way. Good health and pleasant thoughts.
Avatar n tn The treatment for selective mutism is a multi-modal approach - usually involving intervention, therapy and possibly medication. If the social anxiety/selective mutism is quite severe, medication will be used to "take the edge off" so that the other methods can be affective. Other therapies as art and play might also be of use - in our area, our psychologist will not attempt CBT with a child until 8 or 9 years of age.
Avatar m tn primarily treatment of heart problems (i.e. high blood pressure), anxiety, and migraines. This medication is a good choice to decrease physical effects of anxiety and can be taken on an as-needed basis before stressful events. 2. BuSpar (buspirone, psychoactive anti-anxiety drug): primarily used for short-term anxiety treatment. Not very sedating and not addictive at all. 3. A benzodiazepine (xanax, valium, librium; psychoactive anti-anxiety drug): primarily for short-term anxiety relief.

Avatar f tn I'm currently seeing a counsellor concerning depression/anxiety, and am still wavering on the idea about telling her of my binging/laxatives/over exercising. Is a counsellor qualified anough to give me the support I want? She is unable to give out medication, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. Would you advise seeing someone different (a psychologist) and requesting medication, or sticking with therapy? What has/hasn't worked for you?
1394262 tn?1369625192 Hi anyone taking anxiety medication & trying to conceive? I am trying to conceive & am dealing with my anxiety issue at the same time. I am thinking if I should see a psychiatrist for help. I will appreciate it if you could share with me if you are suffering from any side effect from anxiety medication or not. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Right now I feel I can manage my anxiety without taking anything extra. When my anxiety becomes bothersome I drink Kava tea and take a hot bath. When I was suffering from debilitating panic disorder years ago, I took the lorezapam once or twice a day until the Paxil kicked in. My panic attacks this time around were benign compared to those of years ago. The 12.5mg of PaxilCR has done wonders for me.
Avatar m tn Im on this anxiety medication im wondering if it will make me better orbis just like for symptoms for the day ir somthin
Avatar f tn So before I was pregnant I had extreme anxiety, and was on and off medication. Didnt really like the effects - I was either a mindless zombie, or super nice and happy. And for the first 2 trimesters my anxiety had been pretty low. But, now I'm 35 weeks and the anxiety is so bad. I get it for big things, small things, or i'll even just be sitting watching tv and get hit with a huge wave of anxiety for no reason. I've started scratching my self..
Avatar n tn Also my psychiatrist told me alot of people who suffer from anxiety/depression will think the medication is making them worse because the are already struggling with anxiety/depression. However, some medications just don't work for people, or cause side effects such as fatigue. I was on lexapro 10mg for a year, then stopped, and started to take it again for a little over a month and it no longer worked for my anxiety. So I slowly weaned off the lexapro and switched to cymbalta.
1679320 tn?1306382914 is it possible that anxiety doest come back after taking medication for it or is it a guaranteed to hit you again after stopping?
1694901 tn?1317005964 batmanjoey is so right! Therapy is very beneficial but sometimes we have to accept that we need medication....and that's okay. Anxiety is like any other medical condition requiring daily medication to control the symptoms. If you were told you had diabetes, you wouldn't think twice about taking medication for that.....anxiety is no different. Anxiety is robbing you of so much and therapy and/or medication is how we fight back.
Avatar n tn I took every dose on time for the entire 7 days. On 08-19-11, my anxiety continued to grow and I began to have slight, nagging discomfort at the tip of my penis. No burning while urinating, no discharge that I can tell, just this discomfort. As I said, however, I have had severe anxiety and have been what I consider over self examining myself for symptoms. My question is, is the amount of antibiotics I took and the timing I took them sufficient in treating/preventing Chlamydia/Gonnorhea?
1669548 tn?1318788734 Hi All, I'm curious to hear from anyone else who practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for their anxiety, and how effective it may be long-term without medication- I've been using CBT for about 2 years, and it's been a godsend as far as reducing the severity and frequency of debilitating anxious moments, but I still feel that my baseline anxiety level is higher than it could be.
Avatar f tn I have a anxiety disorder that has kept me very concerned about medication. Reading up on the treatment options for ms has me concerned as well. I understand these medications are proven beneficial but the stuff I've been reading about the jc virus and pml has me very sceptical... Do all medications to help rrms have that possible side effect?
