Anxiety medication effexor

Common Questions and Answers about Anxiety medication effexor

anxiety

Avatar m tn Has anyone here experienced widening anxiety starting effexor, then after a few weeks it relieving your symptoms?
Avatar n tn I take effexor xl 75mg, l50mg - 225 mgs over 4 years for anxiety. I was not able to handle the internal physical feelings I was experiencing, I basically wanted to get out of my skin and run away. I want to get off the meds and I do know that this must be done gradually, however, how or what should I take to help with the symptoms of my anxiety.
Avatar n tn What do you mean, return to your waves of anxiety? You mean what you had before you took Effexor, or something different? If something different, it may be continuing withdrawal -- symptoms aren't just physiological, they can also create emotional difficulties. If the same, it means you never solved your original problem, you just medicated it, and probably weren't ready to be off medication. 5htp is a metabolite of tryptophan, and manufactures serotonin in the body.
Avatar n tn I was taking effexor before also and my doctor SPECIFICALLY told me that you can not stop this medication cold turkey because it can have adverse effects on the mind. I was taking this medication for anxiety (but both my sisters and my mom were also taking the medications for other reasons) but they prescribe it for a lot of different reasons. I hope your daughter pulls herself together.
Avatar m tn hi bob, i was on effexor for five years. remember that everyone reacts differently to the same medication. what i'm saying is that i did not like this antidepressant. it made me very tired, gave me heart palpitations and raised my blood pressure. when i quit taking it these problems went away. it gave me blurry vision too. you may do great on this med, give it a chance. personally, i hated it.
1665434 tn?1365242498 In your post you mention both depression and anxiety. Can you say if you were prescribed Prozac and Effexor for both of these, or just for the anxiety? Did you start getting depression because of meds is basically what I'm asking. Are these the only 2 meds you've tried so far? If so, you may want to think about trying another newer med. Are you in therapy?
Avatar n tn I HAVE ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION. I WENT TO A DOCTOR WHO PUT ME ON EFFEXOR, I WAS ON EFFEXOR FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS EVERYTHING WAS GREAT IT HELP SO MUCH. I FELT SO GOOD I STOP TAKING IT IN JULY OF THIS YEAR. BY OCT I COULD TELL IT WAS STARTING TO COME BACK THE ANXIETY AND THE DEPRESSION. I WAITED AS LONG AS I COULD. THEN I WENT BACK TO THE DOC AND WAS GIVEN SOME MORE. SAME DOSE SAME DRUG BUT THIS TIME WHEN I TOOK IT I HAD VERY VERY BAD SIDE EFFECTS FROM IT.WHAT CAUSE THIS AND IS THERE ANYWAY AROUND IT.
Avatar m tn any thoghts on effexor?
Avatar n tn I was on a high dosage of effexor for years and, before that other anti depressant drugs for 17 years. I've weaned myself off, finishing in February, 2009. What are the side affects after so many months? I went through withdrawls like a junkie would for 2 months. I am now interested to see if what and how I am feeling is due to the lack of that drug or some other cause. Thank you.
492527 tn?1212179272 00AM I was recently prescribed Effexor XR (75mg) for depression and anxiety. My Dr. is concerned at the duration of my depression and some physical problems I have that appear to have no physiological cause. He is pretty adamant about me at least trying the medication. I have the pills but I always do a lot of research on whatever I put in my body (drugs, vitamins, herbs etc.) and what is keeping me from trying the script is the withdrawal and something called Tardive Dyskinesia.
11318065 tn?1462988079 Nothing like it was before I started on anti depressants. I was not on any other medication whilst on Effexor, and have not taken anything since stopping, but take lots of supplements. I took supplements alongside the Effexor anyway. Like you say, worth trying to do without. I never thought that after 20 years I could be without any type of medication. It is a great feeling. Freedom for the body. I have arthritis, and back pain.
Avatar m tn Effexor is an effective medication for many people. You will hear some that post bad experiences with Effexor, but for them I really question if they needed the drug in the first place. I'm not so sure you will get any benifit from such a low dosage as 75Mgs, but if thats what your doctor says that I guess you have to follow it. When I used to take Effexor I was at 300Mgs a day.
Avatar n tn How is this going to affect me taking Effexor xr?
Avatar n tn I've been doing fine on this combination, and although everyone is different, I think with the stress of the surgery and the anxiety of just getting off the Effexor in the first place might be why you're feeling the way you are. Just keep doing as the doctor has instructed and hopefully you should be feeling good again soon. And yes, it will probably take the Effexor a good 2 weeks before you start feeling better again. Good luck.
Avatar n tn After stoppage of the medicine Effexor, should I be experiencing dizziness and anxiety and bouts of crying? I have been on it for almost one year and decided to stop taking it after talking with my physician. It has been 4 days since I quit completely and I feel terrible. My physician took me off the medication over a three week period of time. Please help me understand what is going on?
1179039 tn?1263997168 I was on Lexapro for about 3 years originally 10 mg and had tapered it down to 3, as I was feeling much better, unfortunately I have had a setback and need new medication. I changed medication 3 days ago and feel really awful, sick, dizzy, weak shaky legs and headaches. Is there anyone here who swapped these medications, and how long did it take for your body to adjust? Thanks a lot for your help.
Avatar f tn Ive been prescribed somas and vicoden for 2 years just recently found out in pregnant but i can go without something to relax me i was on effexor and xanax as well i dont kno what to ask my dr thats safer i have bad anxiety and panic attacks as well as bad back pain due to car accident .
Avatar f tn Ive been on Lexapro twice first time it worked quit it and started it again when I had my first anxiety issues, didn't work for my depression. Effexor- intensified whatever mood I was in. Zoloft- same as effexor Anxiety meds Buspar- didn't help Finally my doctor put me on paxil and monitored me on ativan for breakthrough, which I went from taking a few times a week to now few times a yr. So my question is stay on paxil and is there a depression medication I can take along with it?
Avatar m tn I really have a serious problem with doctors giving people effexor. I have had anxiety attacks the past few years and was put on effexor for them. I can honestly say that I would rather have anxiety attacks any day then have to go through the withdrawal symptoms associated with effexor. I have been on many medications and have never ever had to do deal with such withdrawal symptoms as effexor..
1276397 tn?1271003304 Hello I quit Effexor cold Turkey about 3 months ago. I was being treated for Anxiety and PMDD, as well as IBS. Im not one to take pills and although it helped me I got this idea that because I forget to take my effexor sometimes and feel really tired and yucky, I should just stop completley.
Avatar n tn Effexor is for anxiety and depression. My Dr. might try me on it. Right now he's got me on Paxil 10mg and I'm not seeing too much of a change on it. If you liked Effexor, had no side effects, and had no problem coming off... (which, you should always wean, even if you didnt have any problems stopping cold turkey), then talk to your Dr. about getting back on it. That is if you are having anxiety again. Don't just take it b/c you want to lose more weight. Hope this helped.
Avatar n tn It seems like the best combonation that I've been on so far but I'd like to hear others opinions for chronic anxiety medication combonations.
411389 tn?1230128077 My doctor put it best - when taking effexor (plus many other anti-anxiety medicines like that) it gets worse before it gets better - and is the same when you come off of it. You will also find that on here, there are people who are on the medicine side of things and those of us who are on the "as natural as possible" side of things. I am on the latter. I have and occaisionally take Xanax, but am dealing with my anxiety head on using methods that were developed by Dr. Claire Weekes.
Avatar n tn I just wanted to say I'm so glad the higher dose of Effexor seems to be helping you, and to encourage you to give Zoloft a try if anything changes with the Effexor. I have a long history of anxiety, depression, OCD, agoraphobia, and panic attacks, and have been on many different anti-depressant medications, such as Anafranil, Paxil, Prozac, Serzone, and I think I was always under-medicated.
Avatar n tn Yes, I think it would have helped if her Dr would have weaned her off the Effexor. What she's going through is withdrawal from the Effexor. Can she ask her Dr if he has any samples of the Effexor so she can wean off of it? I'm really not sure if she can take these two meds together or not. She may have to wean and then go on the Zoloft.
Avatar n tn I noticed few side effects when starting the medication. I find that most doctors are very open to talking about anxiety and do not see it as any different than any other medical condition in which they can assist a person.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking Effexor 75mg for anxiety. I spoke to my doctor about weaning off the medication before becoming pregnant and he insisted that I continue to take the medication until I actually become pregnant. Then, he said he will put me on Zoloft at that time. I'm not comfortable with having any kind of medications in my system that may harm my unborn child. Any suggestions or advice from anyone who is familiar with this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thx.
