Zantac and ibs

Common Questions and Answers about Zantac and ibs

zantac

It started about three weeks ago, i had really bad heartburn and reflux, i went to the dr and got a script of zantac 300 mg....felt better for a week...last week, i has yellow thin BM...then i started having pain all over my abdomen area...ive had bloating for a week straight now, accompanied by pain, sometimes severe, but always constant...went to the dr four days ago, put me on two antibiotics, plus the zantac...i also had blood work and urine test done, all was well...
After 5 months of chasing IBS / abdominal burning / stabbing + visiting 8 different doctors , I discovered Hep C infection and now found out thru endoscopy that I have some superficial duodendal ulcers as well as a hernia hiatus with moderate esaphogitis. The gastro wants me to take Zantac does anybody know if this can raise my ALT ?
Hi, yes I have IBS and acid refux. I am on prilosec, and a certain diet for my IBS. I also take colace twice a day.
but i'm wondering if my LPR might be caused by my stomach pain/diarrhea issue. is there a relation at all? and are my symtoms even considered to be IBS? what tests should i be getting?
went to GI and he said it was probably due to IBS and to stop drinking alcohol, don't eat spicy foods, and take citrucel...if i stick to this regimen i am ok..unfortunately, i like to drink a few beers on the weekends but GI says the carbonation wreaks havoc on IBS...also have lots of gas and bloating..have lost about 5 lbs due to diarrhea. GI wanted to do a colonoscopy but diarrhea subsided (til i had a few beers) so i canceled it.
Please read this..if anyone has any advice please post! I am desperate.. No doctors have been able to figure out what is wrong with me. I went from being the picture of perfect health to being the sickest person I know in a matter of months.
I do see a few similarities to IBS like pain in the abdomen but it all does not sound overly familiar to me to my experience with IBS. I would be inclined to think it is either something else or a combination of IBS and something else.
I experienced these bouts about 1-2 times a month. I went to see my doctor and he said it was fine and normal and to watch my diet, etc. About 5 weeks ago I came down with a fever one night and had constant diahrea. The fever subsided the next day but I had constant diahrea for 3-4 more days. I took a pill of imodium which kept me constipated for a day. On the 5th day I woke up with my stomach/abdomen area strangely fatigued and sore. I thought this was usual and resumed my daily activity.
Hi Ya! Im just new on here, and was wondering if anyone could help. I have IBS D and I am honestly at my wits end with it. I have recently started Uni and I am constantly getting upset about my IBS, I worry so much about it, it is more the embarrassement- after I eat I get rumbling low down in my intestines and it wont stop, this can be very embarrassing. I also worry about the D, but I can try and control this with Immodium.
Back in May, I asked my doctor if we were just whittling our way down to an IBS diagnosis, but he told me he wasn't considering IBS because I don't have any lower abdominal cramps or pain, which is the cornerstone of the diagnostic criteria for IBS. Now he's changed his tune and says it is IBS, even though he still admits I don't meet the diagnostic criteria. Should I be looking for another doctor/2nd opinion? Any ideas what this could be?
The pain continued and the diarrhea eased more. I went back to the Gastro Dr and he said IBS and ordered some fecal tests that I requested. All came back normal. he told me to come back in 6 months. I went to my GP who prescribed an anti depressant / anti anxiety medication which I tried for 2 weeks it did nothing. It is now April and I am in constant pain. Upper stomach burning pain which moves can be on the left or right side under my ribs and sometimes goes to the back left and back right.

I have been diagnosed with IBS and Gastritis. I just finished Clindamycin a few days ago that I was taking for an oral infection. Today, I have really bad stomach cramping and diarrhea, but have no way of knowing if this is just my regualr IBS (b/c those are symptoms of IBS) or if this could be the intestinal condition pseudomembranous colitis from the Clindamycin. I did stop taking my zantac for the 2 weeks I was on the Clindamycin and have not been using my benefiber either.
So you are going to have to incorporate some things to offset the stress involved. I have a pretty high stress job at times and it can be very difficult to have IBS and travel, attend meetings, etc. Eventually you will adjust. Also, gaining weight can flare up your IBS attacks, usually when you gain weight it is cause you've been less active- so getting more exercise will help. You don't have to do anything too difficult, simply walking more will help - even yoga and meditation can help.
some days getting severe cramping and very loose stools to times of severe constipation where my anus bled and there were small tears and a bit of a swollen vein on the outside of my anus. I chalked this up to IBS, stress from college, and not always eating the best at school aka not getting enough veggies and fiber. I noticed it got bad when I ate dairy so I've since switched over to soy.
Its like its the new routine, just flipped a switch one day and now its like this. I've been through the tests, and they came up with just IBS and some anxiety issues. Doesnt matter what I eat, or if i drink coffee, or what, its always loose and more than once in the mornings. 11 months like this now, but i really get no pain or anything, just loose stools. anyone else with type of change, and was told it was ibs? I know pain is supposed to be a main symptom of almost every GI disorder?
It gave me severe diarrhea, and cramps all day long. I took it for 2 months. Switched to Zantac which did not control my GERD. Switched to Nexium which caused cramps and diarrhea also but not as severe cramps as protonix. For the last three years I've been on Prilosec, which causes extreme diarrhea and stomach pain, (pains not as severe as Nexium and Protonix). I tried Prevacid as soon as it became OTC and had no side effects for 4 weeks. Then suddenly I had severe colitis for 8 weeks.
Diarrhea or constipation may predominate, or they may alternate (classified as IBS-D, IBS-C or IBS-A, respectively). IBS may begin after an infection (post-infectious, IBS-PI) or a stressful life event. I advise you to get an ultrasound and endoscopy done by a gastroenterologist to rule out the above possibilities one by one and finding out a confirmatory diagnosis. I hope that helps. Take care & Kind Regards.
the last month of my pregnancy i had such bad acid reflux and the doctor told me to take zantac and if that didnt work to take prilosec. my baby is only 5 weeks old so my doctor gave me the ok not that long ago.
I had to wait 6 weeks just to see this GI doctor too. He than gave me Zantac and Levbid. He concluded I am just having Intestine spasms. The Levid and Zantac help to a point, but I am still having the worst bloating to where I eat something with sugar, carbs, or a large meal of something and I than hold 5 to 10 pounds of water. I wear a size 3 jeans and I can go from them and in 2 days from an episode be in a size 9 jeans because of the bloating I have.
Actually it sounds more like IBS in your case than it does in mine. Panic attacks can be horrible and GI symptoms tend to be on the short list of anxiety symptoms. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck.
I am a female, 75 years old and in good general health; a history of IBS, with annual colonoscopies for years, bulging disc in back, and high blood pressure which I control with medication. For the past 6 months I have been experiencing such distress, beginning with a tingling feeling in my arms which ultimately causes me great anxiety and an inability to feel at peace.
i use peroxide to brush my teeth because i have sores that come and go on the right side of my mouth to the gums and underneath and along side my tongue on the right side. i had a dentist tell me this was more than likely a vitamin deficiency of some sort but after all this time i tend to think it is possibly an acid surplus. i have been on celebrex for joint pain, effexor for a spastic colon, and the only timing i can relate all of this to is the death of my mother at Christmas 2008.
For the past year I have been taking Zantac. Three months ago on vacation I had severe heartburn and gas, the Zantac would not stop the symptoms. I went to the doctor again and he perscribed Aciphex, which I took for 10 days, but then I was having bad side effects, such as cramping, nausia, etc. At that time he had an ultra-sound on my gull bladder and he started me on Prevacid.
sinus infection and was treated with Trovan, Claritin, and Rhinocort for 30 days$$$$$$ I started taking Zantac 150mg 2 x Day two weeks ago. This has helped a great deal, but has not solved the problem. Prior, I was a heavy coffee drinker (10-12 cups BEFORE work, and one or two during), a moderate drinker (beer only), but ocassionally heavy on weekends while building a summer home, and about once a week on an evening out.

ativeASIN=B001ECQ9K8 I started with Tums, Pepcid, Zantac and tried virtually every OTC antacid but it would come back. The first Gastroentrologist who ordered a battery of tests (including endoscopy) over a period of 1 year but concluded NOTHING. While I was under his care, I was on prilosec. I have also tried ALIGN ********* which gave me some relief. I was afraid to eat. My symptoms included heartburn and bloating.
well now here I am 4 years later still on this website trying to figure out the hidden foods I can't tolerate and my nausea/IBS problems are WAAAY down...turns out I'm fructose intolerant/oat intolerant/casein intolerant...and I suspect celiac. Years ago I could eat ANYTHING..just came out of the blue after an infection and antibiotic use..(I regret taking those stupid things..
I looked at the long list of possible side effects and am hesitant to take it, especially since I am not sure I have IBS. I don't have pain, and I don't feel constipated. Besides IBS, what other problem could this be? Since I don't have pain, are there alternative medicines with fewer and less risky side effects?
