Luvox vs prozac for ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Luvox vs prozac for ocd

prozac

Avatar n tn At that time I was also prescribed respirdal to take with the prozac. I have been on that combination for the last 4 years, and have been relatively stable with the anxiety being some what managable for the most part. Even so I am still dissatisfied with where I am right now, as I still show very many symptoms of OCD and anxiety.
286686 tn?1416012340 Also, I wonder if maybe one of the older more established medications may work for him such as Prozac. That worked well for me but so does Wellbutrin which I currently take. Also, you didn't mention how bad his OCD is. Did they ever suggest taking a benzo such as klonopin as well? As far as therapy goes, I am happy to see that you are switching. He definitely needs to learn cognitive behavioral therapy.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was taking luvox, great for ocd , but i was allergic , flu symtoms and hives, I am on prozac which I find incredible for intrusive thoughts. I also added a small dose of effexor.
Avatar f tn I forgot~I was diagnosed with OCD and tried Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro, Celexa, and Wellbutrin which were all unsuccessful. Luvox worked but I am ready to try and live life without it.
Avatar f tn Also has anyone tried Luvox for OCD? I've been on Prozac and Zoloft and still mAnage to not be able to control scary thought. After I had my daughter they got real bad too.
Avatar n tn If you are taking one of the standard medications for ocd such as the SSRI anti-depressents (Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Effexor) this could be the problem. Speak to your psychiatrist about and ask if that could be what the cause is.
Avatar n tn Hi ;) What did the doctor diagnose you with? OCD? If it is OCD, i suggest starting with prozac. It has the least side effects of the the SSRIs and it also has a really long half life, which means after it builds up in your system (about a month to 6 weeks) It will continue to be released into your sytem for about 6 days after your last pill. So side effects coming off are very few. It is a gradual thing.
Avatar f tn But this is all part of ocd. Standard anti-ocd medications (usually SSRI anti-depressents, Prozac through Luvox) can help on ocd and behavioral therapy is good as well. Talk therapy is good in general but for ocd targeted behavioral therapy is better. Those can help you get over that feeling but speak to a psychiatrist about the issue and they can find an exact diagnosis and treatment.
Avatar f tn i am on zoloft 75mg and have been breaking out in a rash since i started taking it in april but am just now realizing it could be the zoloft. does anyone have any experiance with this or can recommend another medicine that may work for my ocd and anxiety. my ocd is the scary thoughts and it was all caused after a major surgery i went through. it is getting better but i still have some issues.
Avatar m tn medication cocktails people are seeing these days for OCD and especially the pure O type? I am currently on 112.5 mg of Effexor and moving up to 150 mg soon. I was "fine" for about 6 years after my last bout of medication (Risperdal and Zoloft) that I quit due to horrible weight gain. So, I am also looking to find the most weight neutral combination as well.
Avatar f tn Your profile says you're from the US, and this drug isn't used all that much here. So if you don't get a lot of responses, that's why. It's used mostly in Europe, due partly to a quirk in its initial development. It just didn't apply for US approval for a long time, and didn't market it here very much when it was new.
Avatar f tn t work, Wellbutrin made me shake so much I could hardly put my make-up on, cymbalta made my anxiety go through the roof, prozac made me too hyper and anxious, paxil worked then stopped, Anafranil was for my OCD but didn't work, even when I tried it intervenously. I also had combonations of these pills. I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR LUVOX...its the only drug that has helped my ocd...
Avatar f tn i have been on luvox for 1 year and its a very good medicine with minimum side effects ,so please give it a try and regarding weight gain i think it is the dullness caused by these medicines that we gain weight , which we can counter by exercises.
Avatar f tn I was hoping you might add "anti-depressant" to the treatment section. I'm currently taking Fluvoxamine (Luvox) so I'm using "prozac" as a stand in, but I think a generic option for anti-depressants, or SSRIs would be helpful.
Avatar n tn has anyone here ever been on LUVOX? any luck? Im on celexa for depression and anxiety and OCD. its helping my depression and anxiety, but not really touching my OCD like my doctor had hoped. He upped my dose last week and Im going to give it a few weeks to see, but if it doesnt seem to be working, Im going to ask him about luvox.
Avatar f tn I can't really add anything for you because I have never taken Luvox and I don't know if it will affect the adderall but I didn't want you to think that nobody was going to answer. Just so you know, the medications sometimes do have the side effect of making the symptoms worse in the beginning. Sometimes anxiety levels go up but after 4 weeks or so, that jitteryness goes away and you start to see benefits.
1041243 tn?1375230520 i've been on Luvox for about 15 years. I have moderate to severe OCD, this medication has worked the best for me. I have very minimal side effects, and it's never 'fizzled' on me oddly. I have done the therapy but I have found that the medication alone seems to do the job just fine. Perhaps your body is different, as with anyone, we all react differently to different medications. Some work some do not.
Avatar f tn This is distressing, as I am not aware of any other therapy that is effective in treating OCD. My sister has confirmed that OCD/health anxiety are notoriously difficult to treat even for seasoned professionals. In your experience, does CBT become more effective over time? It is costing me $90 per session, and the commute is close to an hour. Add in gas and tolls and the cost is about $100. I would continue, though, if I really believed it would help. This is where I am stuck.
Avatar n tn So Prozac got approval for depression, but was always used for anxiety as well. Zoloft came next, and got approval for depression as well, but was also always used for anxiety. Paxil came next, and got approved for both depression and panic disorder, but has always been used for all types of anxiety. Then Luvox, which chose OCD as its "special" benefit. And so on. So while Celexa wasn't approved specifically for anxiety conditions, Lexapro, the newest model of Celexa, was.
3159640 tn?1430907300 This isn't your first rodeo...you KNOW your problem is OCD related, not HIV related, and you know that that forum is for actual HIV concerns (which you don't have). That's one of the busiest forums here, they HAVE to maintain order. There are anxious people posting there constantly, making up new ids...it's insane. It's hard to maintain order with all of that. You need to address the OCD, not continue to seek info on HIV...that's feeding the OCD.
Avatar n tn What medications other than Luvox or Celexa could I use for anxiety and ocd? I feel Luvox aint working neither was Celexa. My problem is I cant relax and Im always worrying. I have no compulsions except going on the internet and looking for answers and finding distressing news that I think apply to me. Im tired of this. I deserve to enjoy my life! I dont want to worry about getting it up or my sexual performance. Help!
Avatar m tn I'm currently prescribed on 100 mg of luvox and 10 mg of abilify. However, I've been mistreated by nearly everyone I met in the past 4 years in high school. Teachers, students, everyone. It can't be them, I'm thinking. It has to be me. As punishment, I want to make my OCD worse until I can barely control it. If I stop taking Luvox and Abilify, will I suffer some sort of neurological damage? Or will the only effect be that my OCD will become worse?
Avatar f tn me on to help other anti depressant work. They also put me on luvox for OCD. i have heard good and bad things about these combos with adderall. I dont want them to counteract the drug. So any thoughts would be great. Thanks.
1041243 tn?1375230520 A week ago my psychiatrist stopped my 200 mgs of zoloft and started me on luvox 50 mgs a day for the first two weeks then 100 mgs a day there after. A couple days later I started expiriencing major withdrawal symptoms, severe anxiety and panic (more so than usual), insomnia, and some slight agoraphobia (I don't like to leave the house, but I will if I need too) and even stronger ocd symptoms.
