Prozac vs zoloft for ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs zoloft for ocd

Avatar n tn however, due to the pregnancy, they suggested I quit taking Prozac. I did; however, was continuing to have problems with my OCD, so they put me on Zoloft (during the pregnancy) to help. My little girl is now 7 months old. I've continued taking the Zoloft; however, they doubled it because I'm still having trouble with the OCD. I'm sure a lot of that is from being flat tired all the time with an infant, but was wondering if I should go back to Prozac. Any thoughs?
Avatar n tn I'm wondering if this sounds like the Zoloft could be responsible for me gaining weight. I have been on Zoloft since July 2006 and in the past two months I have gained 6 lbs. without changing my eating or exercise habits. I'm a small person with an athletic build - 5' 5" and I normally weigh about 114 lbs. I'm 26 and have been at this weight +/- 3 lbs. since my sophomore year of college (as recently as January, I was at 111 lbs. b/c I wasn't eating much due to stress).
Avatar n tn and saying I was just about to comment on the very old thread, I am about to start generic Zoloft and am here looking for exerience with Zoloft. Maybe the original post will give me some useful on Zoloft.
Avatar f tn I use Zoloft and find it helps me tremendiously. I use to take Prozac, I've been dealing with OCD/GAD for 23 years. But it was time for something different, that happens. The side effect do go away in time, and I think its worth going through a little to get so much better. Some time doctors may have to try a couple different things to get the right thing for you so don't get discouraged. I did take Effexor one time and it did not help me out at all.
Avatar n tn In your friend's case, she feels guilty and the thought scares her, though she is not suffering from the compulsive behavior, she may still be diagnosed with OCD. This is treated with Cognitive-Behavioral therapy and/or medications like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox. A thorough evaluation may benefit your friend and relieve her of her suffering.
Avatar n tn But I wanted to send this warning because I think Effexor is very powerful and should not be treated lightly. Prior to the Effexor, I had tried Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft, all of which I stopped taking because I didn't think they worked. No symptoms of withdrawal with any of the above, no problems whatsoever. But the Effexor was awful. I truly felt like my entire brain had been reduced to a tiny pellet, almost like a pinball--with my skull as the pinball machine.
Avatar n tn This warning pertained to patients who were prescribed Paxil for depression, not for patients who are prescribed Paxil for anxiety. It sounds like your daughter has done well with Paxil, and she might do equally well on another SSRI (like Zoloft), but not necessarily. If there's no particular reason why Paxil would pose any risk to her it's hard to discern why you would switch her. It will also be important to locate another child psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn Over the years I was on Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Luvox, amphetamine salts, Prozac, Lamictal, Risperidone, Xanax, Adderall and Ativan. I was diagnosed (by diff docs) as OCD, ADHD, BIPOLAR2, DYSTHMIA AND GAD My Father, Uncle and a friend died within 6 months of each other. I didn’t cry. I just felt numb (meds?) I started to see a NP who helped a friend of mine. She was very nice. She put me on Prozac. When I didn’t feel better, she had me talk to her mentor, a Psychiatrist.
Avatar n tn I am diagnosed with BPD, Panic disorder and Bipolar II disorder and am currently taking Lamictal, Prozac and Lyrica for sleep. I am also taking percocet for the horrible panic episodes that I have because that seems to work as well for me. I think I know why this works for some people. In an article that I read a couple of years ago,(unfortunatly I lost it) they said that the brain produces it's own morphine.
1611340 tn?1298262863 Even toyed with the old solipsistic view that I am the only one and everyone else is an extension of my existence or imagination. That always turns out dark. Well I cam home for the holidays and was put on prozac. I had also been taking xanax which seemed to work a bit, but by basically turning me into a zombie. Well when I returned to Germany, one night I was sitting on a castle wall and started vividly imagining myself jumping.
Avatar n tn terminal cancer? your dr. prescribed you the zoloft for your anxiety. she is a dr. she would NOT give you something that could potentially harm your baby! besides that is BETTER than having all that srtess and anxiety on your baby. your baby feels that anxiety and it is not good to be stressed. so take the pill to calm down. plus once you are calm, you may be hungry and able to give your baby the nutrients it needs. i know how you feel about taking the meds but she gave it to you to help you.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone, I took 30 mg of prozac for about 10 years, then found that it was working with my depression and OCD. In retrospect, I think that I needed some talk therapy to get me through a rough year, but I insisted that my psychiatrist try me on something else. We started effexor and gradually weaned off the prozac. The transition had its problems, but I was able to work and maintain a fairly normal life. I eventually worked up to 150 mg.
135456 tn?1301441224 I have been on Anafrinil for 1 year to treat ocd, it is a older ad mainly prescribed for ocd, hopefully when I start tx that will be all I need. My mind has been twisted from my ocd most of my life and the sx I think will be easy to deal with.
Avatar f tn So, two years of therapy (diagnosed with OCD, anxiety and depression) and many drugs later I'm still the same (we've tried prozac, lexapro, wellbutrin... the next on the list to try is zoloft) and nothing has helped. Prozac helped some, but I was sleeping all the time. I am going for a second opinion (different PCP now, and a new psychiatrist/therapist combo) and another nerve conduction study and round of bloodtests... And am completely frustrated at the lack of answers.
Avatar n tn Hi All, Thanks for this wonderful service! I have OCD, Panic Disorder & Social Anxiety. Without medication life is very uncomfortable. I was on Paxil for 6 months and all my symptoms were greatly relieved. However, the side effects began to outweigh the benefits. The side effects were: fatigue, nausea, headaches, loss of libido and inability to orgasm, weight gain and increased PMS.
Avatar m tn you have gotten some great advice and guidance. I have suffered with OCD/GAD and depression for 23 years. I recently just had my 2 total crash last year but am finally turing it all around. The anxiety was the hardest thing for me to accept because until last year I never had a Panic Attack. It scared me to death and started the whole ride with anxiety, which led to a severe depression and the hospital. But I am sooooo much better now!
Avatar f tn And again, some have had success switching to Prozac for a time until the withdrawal is done, and it's an easier drug to wean off of. If you have to stay on Effexor, well, whatever, I guess, but given the time that's passed and it's effects on you, I can see why it might not be a good option. Life just doesn't work out sometimes, but sometimes it does, so don't give up hope as I have -- I wish I could still form hope, but that went with the Paxil, unfortunately, but I do have hope for you.
Avatar m tn The pediatric psychiatrist insisted that my son had OCD and zoloft was the answer. So she started him on this and immediately I was concerned. I noticed his moods were horrible, he started having tics, anger, and did not sleep. I explained this to the psych but she just uped the dose. Every time the dose was changed the syptoms got worse. In fact, the more he was on the med the more new problems came up. He was now depressed and had extreme anxiety.
3166043 tn?1514263618 To clarify things, I have been mentally ill since age 8. I was first perscribed Luvox and saw a therapist for OCD. I managed it until the age of 12 when things changed, like certain behaviours where I saw phychiatrist who then diagnosed me with depression. I was put on numerous medications to see which was right for me and I was taking Luvox and Clonzepam till I was 18 when I needed to change anti depressants because I was no longer responding to the one I was put on 8 years earlier.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
480448 tn?1426952138 For a person who is experiencing this for the first can be VERY upsetting and disturbing. I was there before as well...the first time I went through this, I was convinced there was something wrong with my eyes. Everything just "looked" so weird, so odd. I almost felt like I was having out of body experiences...or was watching the world through a movie projector, instead of through my own eyes and mind.
Avatar n tn I've been on Lexapro for four years (unfortunately)and the weight gain issue has been foremost in my mind. I was on zoloft for 2-1/2 years and gained nearly 30 pounds. On 10-15 mg Lexapro, I ballooned 20 lbs because I wasn't exercising or watching what I ate. By changing my diet (eliminating wheat, limiting candy and sugar) I was able to lower my weight by 14 lbs -- I can live with 6 extra pound. I recommend visiting a nutritionist -- it helped me significantly -- and exercising.
724811 tn?1291434386 The primary reason I believe I have been trying to stop Paxil for so long (even tried switching to Zoloft for 6 months), is BECAUSE I AM AN ARTIST, and my art IS affected by the medication (in a negative way.) I have basically come to the conclusion that side effects of the meds are not worth sacrificing my art, and that there must be some way that God MADE me this way.
Avatar n tn I also take zoloft and yasmin. Does anyone know if there is an increased risk for blood clots while on this, i tend to be a worrier and i just want to know from someone who knows whats up? thanks!
Avatar m tn I have suffered from depression my entire life and have been on Zoloft for about 15 years. I noticed when I started taking this medicine that my rocking during the day and obsessive thinking disappeared. I'm ADHD and have been taking Vyvance for almost a year. The quality of my life has improved drastically. I can focus and be more organized. My responsibilities at work got to be too much. I fought taking more medicines but alas.
Avatar f tn (at the time didnt know it was the bc pills) The doc figuring it was the baby blues put me on Zoloft. It worked for awhile but made me either verry verry scary happy then evetually a numb feeling and also verry verry tired. i could sleep all weekend long and still be tired the next day. Through this i was still moody and anxious. i felt like i was going nuts so i dropped the zoloft. but i still felt all the other effects of the pill.
