My mom and I found out that my father has cancer a few months ago. My mom is having a very hard time with the diagnosis - as expected. My father has gotten some promising info on treatment of the cancer but I am very worried about my mother. She continues to worry and cry a lot. I do realize that much of this is to be expected but I am very worried about her well being.
Anyone been on Prozac or other antidepressants during their 2nd trimester?? I'm feeling really down and depressed at 25 weeks. I'm on 20mg of Prozac, but feel I may need to up it or try something else.
So when I found out I was pregnant I stopped taking my antidepressants and today (20 weeks pregnant) I went to my psychiatrist, after a long time, and he said it was fine to take the medication but I'm unsure. The medicine is Prozac (fluxotine) and I was wondering if it's really okay. Anyone have any experience in this?
I've recently been dx with bp2 i've been put on prozac & it's been sending me really really manic, it's been quite scary! Other beepers i know that are on prozac some have found it great. No loss of libido with me.
Effexor (an SNRI as mentioned above) is also a tough one to get off, compared to other ADs. Lexapro, Zoloft, Celexa and Prozac are typically the easier tolerated ADs (again, everyone is different).
I personally would recommend sticking with the SSRIs vs the SNRIs for anxiety, because due to the fact that their primary mechanism of action affects norepinephrine (aka adrenaline), they are quite activating, and can cause more anxiety.
I have seen commercials that say Prozac and a list of other antidepressants could cause birth defects. But just like any other medicine, I would talk to your doctor about it.
My husband has been taking ativan for stress for close to 3 years now. At first it really helped. And he was able to sleep at night, too. After all this time, he has become immune to it. Our lives have been a nightmare over these 3 years and we don't see any light at the end of this tunnel yet.
6mg of xanax is a high dose, and it can cause the symptoms you described. Were you on any other antidepressants previously? What is your specific diagnosis?
I have been on Prozac and Amitryptiline and have piled on weight. What do these meds do to the mind to make this happen.
s Positive Thoughts and i havent took it just yet cause it said dont take with antidepressants so cause i have only took 3 prozac and the last i took it was wednesday so i should be fine to start on the new right? Why the weight gain on these anit d's is it because you are so relaxed? Does Prozac have the same effect? I know 3 people on Prozac and they are skinny......I don't want to gain weight.
I take 5mg - 10mg of Prozac. Serotonin is one of the neurotransmitters the autonomic nervous system uses to control blood pressure. SSRI/SNRI drugs can be helpful for some, harmful/intolerable for others, and still others will notice no difference at all. It really depends on the patient.
Prozac too, helps me with sensory overload. Without it, environmental sounds tend to be too difficult for me to tolerate for long periods of time.
Nobody really knows long-term effects there are (if any) with antidepressants. However, Prozac is the oldest SSRI out there, and people have been on it 20+ years, with no serious long-term effects reported yet. In generally, the SSRI antidepressants appear to be very safe. Though their long-term effects have not been adequately studied. Being on Prozac for 2-3 years should have no lasting detrimental effects. I was on Prozac for 3 years, and I'm now on Lexapro for 2 years.

Antidepressants can sometimes cause reactions like this. I had a psychotic break on Prozac so consider yourself lucky in that department. My advice is to tell your doctor as soon as possible, if the medication is making you jittery it probably isn't for you. There are many other types of antidepressants out there to try. Psychiatry is built on trial and error.
What other meds? Antidepressants have as one of the most common side effects sedation, especially ssris and tricyclics, so yes, it's very common. If you've been taking these other meds for awhile and the Prozac is new and the sedation is new, it's probably the Prozac, but it could also be the Prozac in combination with something else you're taking that proved too much for you body. If you just started taking the Prozac it could go away.
But now I am worried because I have read that antidepressants can cause pphd in newborns if antidepressants were taken in late pregnancy. You dont think I have to worry about that or other birth defects since I wasn't on them for a long time do you? Thanks.
I believe my long term use of prozac and other antidepressants has made my anxiety and depression more chronic and untreatable. Look up tardive dysphoria.
For me prozac did nothing for my GAD maybe helped my depression though i can not rule out the placebo effect. The cost of dependence and other common side effects far out weighed any benefit of feeling calmer due mainly to somnolence.
I would give it a 3/10 overall more than i would have given to effexor, cipramil.
im preg too 15weeks 1day. i was on prozac for depression and when i told my doctor i was preg he stopped me taking them he said they wasnt safe so he put me on something else called sertraline. i would go back and tell them this im from england london. are u from some where different.
Thank you for the heads up! And since i won't actually be completely weaning off it, by itself, i am weaning off it while increasing the prozac. I plan to stay on the prozac for a bit. So i'm hoping it makes it easier? I just preferably want to be on a SSRI instead of a SNRI. I once was weaned from Effexor while going onto zoloft and didn't have any issues...i have never taken Prozac before either...
the first week i felt fantastic and postive over the past weekend i feel joint stiffness, i cant sleep, im having some anxiety i feel like i cant breathe is this withdrawl from the prozac? I dontwant to be on antidepressants anymore, i want therapy. I just want to know if im going through prozac withdrawls and has anyone else felt like this??
You can try a different antidepressants like a SNRI (I would not use use on Adderall personally, other SSRIs or you can try tricyclic antidepressants, i recommend a second generation tricyclic like nortriptyline that is taken at night that haves sedative proprieties which could work well with Adderall in the day but your not getting full benefits of Adderall if you are using Xanax at the same time.
