Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs lexapro drug

prozac

Avatar f tn I was only on it 2 weeks when I ended up in the ER, my Doc said never again and then put me on the lexapro.. I think Lexapro is a good drug it just was not for me!! Prozac NO WAY!! But as everyone will tell, are different, I have a friend who is on prozac and does great!! As everyone tells me, do not read into it and try it, have you ever tried Zoloft? I was on that for 12 years and loved it, it pooped out on me last year and I am just starting it again!!
Avatar f tn The only drug I've had any luck with for anxiety is Lexapro. Maybe you could stay on the Wellbutrin and try another drug with it for the anxiety. A lot of people say Cymbalta is one of the worst experiences they've had, and I know everyone is affected differently, but right now I really think I want to try the Wellbutrin first.
Avatar n tn w/ wellbutrin--just a little FYI-it is a major drug-i read that dopamine in it is much same as the chemicals in the major drug cocaine--not that Wellbutrin is bad i do not want to scare you but it is a major major big time drug) Well, i just got on this forum today because of Lexapro. As i said i tapered off Wellbutrin 2 weeks ago and then Lexapro slowly and off fully last week.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Lexapro is less agitating than Prozac, but lots of people stay on Prozac a long time. I know many who do and they feel really good on it. I think I had an averse reaction, and I have read that can happen. I am on klonopin now. You might notice that your head feels kind of like it is shifting around inside a bit after time. I'm not sure if you will. It's called shifting and rotating. Sometimes they give you Zyprexa with it to stop that. I might go back on Zyprexa at night.
Avatar n tn I know it has the s enhibitors and the r. The lexapro I want to take has a lot of the r enhibitors. I can't afford lexapro its 90 a month. I got 2 free samples that are good for 2 weeks and then i can get one month of a prescription for free. but the Celexa is only 10 dollars a month. So my question is what should i get on for my anxiety? I also have pre mature ejaculation and im wondering what is the best ssri for that?
Avatar f tn 5 and 3/4 pill of Lexapro, then stop effexor completely and take the full 10 mg. of Lexapro. I also take 1 mg. Klonopin three times a day and 50 mg. Tenormin for the MVP/anxiety. For the first 10 days I felt great. Very relaxed, sleeping great and no anxiety at all. Then last night (the third day on the lowest effexor and higher lexapro) I didn't sleep, was very anxious and tense feeling. Had a good peaceful weekend so don't think it is environmental.
Avatar f tn I chose Lexapro since Viibryd is a new drug and I was unsure about it. My concern is insurance doesn't cover Lexapro. I hope they are able to make it go through. He also gave me a script for Valium. I was shocked he didn't give Ativan or Klonopin or something along those lines. Is Valium good? He said if insurance doesn't cover the Lexapro then I could try Vivbryd, a new med, but I don't like that idea.
Avatar n tn I just tried Wellbutrin because I read that it had fewer side effects than others and may help lose weight (and I had just tried Cymbalta and Effexor and didn't like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...
341953 tn?1209485491 okay, so i do not know much about either. I know some of the basics like what drug is in what class, but that is about it. i ask because my doctor told me i have a general anxiety disorder (i don't really get panic attacks, i get more agiated and angry) and that i am internalizing too much stress, causing my health conditions to worsen. my mom had given me one of her small ativans to try, and that did help calm me down, without making me feel all out of it and tired.
Avatar m tn However, if you are on an anti-depressant (SSRI) like paxil or prozac, it can cause sexual disfunction. I am on klonopin, however, I use only as needed which is once every couple of weeks (also on buspar and paxil daily). I do not know if there are less side effects than xanax. I do know, however, that xanax is only supposed to be prescribed for short term use and as needed. Klonopin is for long-term daily use. I am sure someone will post here to help you.
Avatar n tn the weight gain with effexor and then even more so with lexapro. I was on effexor for approx a year+, then on lexapro for only 3months...I started to gain weight and it's taken me 7 months after not taking any of the meds to lose 7 pounds. I've always been obsessive with excercise and dieting, yet none of this has helped....soooo frustrating. I just got back on prozac and the weight is starting to drop...
Avatar f tn I have also gone down the long road of antidepressants trying to find something to help my GAD and panic. I was on paxil for years as well as lexapro, prozac, cymbalta and a host of others - have also been in CBT for a long time too. All for panic or GAD. Spent so many years trying one after another. Stayed on the paxil which just seemed to increase my anxiety and caused the development of a major tremor. 30 years ago was tried on valium and it worked for the GAD, but not the panic.

Avatar f tn I was suffering from alot of stress and then I started to get depressed so, I went to the doctor 9 years ago and he prescribed lexapro and vioxx due to a knot that had come up on my neck ' thinking back on that I believe it was caused from all the tension headaches I was having" anyway that night as usual I put my daughter to bed took the meds. then I went to bed.
Avatar n tn 2) Am I better off with Paxil/Zoloft + Wellbutrin or Buspar, or is my non-reaction to Wellbutrin a sign that it wouldn't do much in combination w/ Paxil? 3) Any other drug/combo better for my condition and side effects experience?
Avatar f tn I too find ssris very stimulating (sleeping thru the night is a problem) I am taking Celexa which is not a stimulating as Lexapro or Prozac. I used to take Zoloft but after awhile it gave me alot of stomach problems. I too take xanax (.25 once a day) It seems to take the edge off. I take 30 mg of celexa, but I don't think it is working completely because I am obsessing and feeling abit depressed. I constantly have to urinate and do have diarreah. I read that Celexa can cause that.
Avatar m tn Most of the drugs in that category do increase the odds of weight gain, but it's because you have more urges to eat not the drug just inceases your weight.. Here is the list I found on what works the best vs. the most tolerated drugs - not necessarily better drugs. It was printed in The Lancet, one of the most respected medical journals.
347630 tn?1196374698 I have been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety and put on Lamictal and Lexapro. I think lamictal works really good for me. I feel calm and able to concentrate. Lexapro on the other hand is making me feel sick. I experience all of the side effects. I tried to research about these meds and I know that Lexapro mechanism of action is based on SSR but I am not quite sure what lamictal does. Some meds affect the serotonin levels, other the dopamine and glutamate.
415867 tn?1323369103 Newer antidepressants don’t have the same side effect. While Paxil and Zoloft do cause some weight gain, other SSRIs, like Prozac, Celexa and Lexapro, don’t. For Paxil and Zoloft, the weight gain can add up to five to 40 pounds a year. Some people do experience weight gain with Lexapro or Celexa, but most don’t. In this case, it is not a surprise to have idiosyncratic responses, since the chemical structure of all the SSRIs is so similar.
Avatar f tn Ive had great success with antidepressants...in the past I have been on Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, with Zoloft and Lexapro being the most effective for me. if the Prozac doesn't work for you (after giving it ample time, even possibly trying a higher dose), then,in my opinion, I would ask about Zoloft. It's one of the first line meds for treatment of panic attacks/panic disorder. Also, you can arm yourself with as much info as you can...
Avatar n tn I will be taking lesser dose of Paxil for a couple of days but add just a bit of other med like Lexapro to take simultaneously with Paxil to easy the withdrawal sympthoms?
Avatar m tn htm - Start of quotation - Just days after the FDA banned tryptophan, the cover of Newsweek announced the arrival of Prozac, a “selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor” which became the blockbuster drug of the 90s. Unlike tryptophan, which raised serotonin levels by making more serotonin, Prozac raised serotonin levels by inhibiting the reuptake (recycling) of serotonin. Fortunately for Eli Lilly & Co, tryptophan’s unavailability had created a serotonin vacuum that Prozac could fill.
Avatar f tn My sister is on a low dose of Lexapro and is doing well with it. My doctor recommended Paxil a while back but we decided I should go on Klonopin instead. And I've read that Paxil causes weight gain. So, can anyone give me the pros and cons of the various anti-depressants?? Which are deemed the most effective? Any advice you can give will be much appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar n tn My panic attacks started up again so the doc put me on lexapro. I've been on lexapro for about 3 weeks and i honeslty don't feel like its working. It's as if i get more anxiety. My advice to you is to not be afraid of the weight gain b/c a lot of it is emotional. I know the medication makes you hungry all the time but try to overcome your hunger strikes by only eating healthy food that won't make you gain weight or substitute your hunger strikes with exercise. Keep yourself busy!
Avatar n tn I would also include that there are many other drugs that also have gastly withdrawl effects such as Paxil, Pristiq, Cymbalta, and many Tri-cyclics such as Amitriptilyne and Nortriptilyne. Not everyone responds to drugs such as Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, and other antidepressants with a lower occurance of withdrawl effect. Do I think Effexor or any SNRI drug should be used as a first line antidepressant? No way.
Avatar n tn therefore, there is a tendency to self increase the dose which is not only dangerous because of the addictive qualities of the drug, but also it lowers the seizure threshold. So, yes ultram is addictive and easily abused and at higher than recommended doses can cause unwanted seizures. By the way, what kind of pain are you using ultram for? I have found that it really only helps for mild to slightly moderate pain, and not severe pain.
Avatar f tn First, Pristiq isn't novel, it's just Effexor with part of it cut off, as was done with Celexa/Lexapro. Some will say it's just a way to get another drug on patent, but since people do have very different reactions to Celexa vs. Lexapro, there probably are differences here, too. Second, Cymbalta isn't an ssri, it's an snri like Pristiq. Third, snris can be very stimulating because they target norepinephrine.
