Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs zoloft anxiety

prozac

Avatar n tn with meds it's always trial& error i take zoloft 50mg/day for anxiety and depression i took prozac in '94 and it was not for me people respond differently to meds what might work for me might not work for you.
Avatar f tn My friend went from years on Paxil to Zoloft with no problems. Depression & anxiety often re occur in our life. Some of us are just prone to it. You did nothing wrong switching meds/trying others. I took prozac in college and it worked like a charm. 15 yrs later I had another bout of anxiety and depression and tried it again and it did nothing sadly.
459689 tn?1276570143 I do have one concern, Zoloft is supposedly better for anxiety than Prozac, and I have even heard that Prozac can make anxiety worse. I am confused and dont want to become addicted to having to have a sleep aid, but I start back at my evil (did not used to feel that way) corporation this Monday. I just want to sleep and not stink and not yell at my wife and be sooo agitiated, is that so wrong? I would appreciaite any feedback from the community. This forum has been a life saver for me.
Avatar f tn Not working again anaway!
Avatar f tn Thank you for the responses! I would like to start off by saying that I have dealt with anxiety my entire life. I successfully took Zoloft for many years & went off of it for a while. I tried to go back on but could not tolerate it a second time around, which can happen. I did not experience the fatigue on Zoloft that I am experiencing with Lexapro. I felt more relief from anxiety & fatigue on Zoloft, but some say otherwise while they took Zoloft.
2064754 tn?1333375663 There are faster actiing meds like Xanax and Ativan that are used on an as needed basis and are usually prescribed more short term and then there are medications like Zoloft and Prozac (SSRIs) that are prescribed more long term and taken on a regular basis. While these are only two types, there are also multiple other classes of medications that are used in the treatment of both. Whether or not to use medication is definitely a personal choice and not everyone chooses to do so.
Avatar f tn I have heard horror stories about coming off of paxil and zoloft which is why I opted for the prozac vs the others. I could have chosen celexa too. My other medication for my stomach is pretty pricey and that is not an option not to take so I figured I would start with the cheepest here. Also, I am more comfortable going with an older drug....I figure the kinks are worked out of it.
Avatar n tn well I have to say, after 3 tough weeks of severe nausea, lightheadedness, dizziness, headaches, and dry mouth, I had to stop Wellbutrin and will be going back to prozac. If Zoloft helped with your depression, than there is a chance Wellbutrin won't work, because the brain chemistry problem that needs to be addressed is the serotonin problem. I hope you have better luck than I did.
Avatar n tn ve tried several medications for anxiety and panic attacks, but have had major side effects from them all. Zoloft, Celexa, etc. My doctor recently prescribed Prozac for my anxiety and panic attacks. In reading about Prozac, it does list anxiety and panic, but they are down the list a ways. Does anyone know if Prozac is a good choice for this? I don't want to take them if they aren't going to do anything. I don't have OCD, which seems to be the main disorder Prozac is prescribed for.
Avatar m tn But recently, after an extended period of high anxiety I visited a psychiatrist who told me to try Zoloft and take Klonopin every day for a month, then taper down and go back to using as needed. How does this strategy sound to you guys? Has Zoloft been effective for anyone? Has anyone gotten addicted to Klonopin or suffered withdrawal after a month of continuous use? Thanks so much, again, for everyone sharing their experiences.
Avatar m tn I do not know if to ask to change it to zoloft or keep prozac. I do not want prozac to create me a panic attack since has been only one in my life. any suggestions?
Avatar f tn is zoloft the same as prozac. is it possible 4 anxiety to return so bad 4 no apparent reason. its so ongoing this time and its literally doin my head in!!!!
Avatar f tn Ive had great success with antidepressants...in the past I have been on Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, with Zoloft and Lexapro being the most effective for me. if the Prozac doesn't work for you (after giving it ample time, even possibly trying a higher dose), then,in my opinion, I would ask about Zoloft. It's one of the first line meds for treatment of panic attacks/panic disorder. Also, you can arm yourself with as much info as you can...
Avatar f tn Well both Prozac and Zoloft take weeks to kick in fully. What was your side effect on Prozac?
492307 tn?1214186739 I started on antidepressants in 2000 for anxiety. First Paxil (6 months), Zoloft (4 years) Strattera ( took on and off for 2 years ) then Prozac (2 years) While on these drugs, I had all the classic symptoms of hypothyroidism.. Then, when I switched to prozac, my periods stopped and things became much worse. I began having heart palpitations, hot flashes, tunnel vision, intolerance to cold, and basically feeling like I was hit by a truck!
Avatar f tn (Prozac is also an SSRI like Prozac). If your doctor thinks that your life is affected enough from your anxiety and depression to prescribe it to you, then why not see if it works for you? You can always choose not to take it in the future, but you would have given it a try. Just remember they do take a while to 'kick in,' but for me, SSRIs like Prozac worked very well as I went through counseling. Keep us posted!
Avatar m tn Also, you did not have any sexual side effects with Prozac? I was given Zoloft to treat anxiety and depression. My energy level is so bad that I am having trouble getting out of my apartment. Will the prozac boost my energy level? Looking forward to your reply.
1330182 tn?1279815900 I switched to prozac which over time made my anxiety worse.. I went off prozac in March 2010 and my anxiety came back hard! I lost a lot of weight and couldn't eat :( I started Celexa 3 weeks ago @2.5mg. I know that is a low dose, but I am very med sensitive.. I have noticed a 50% reduction in my panic episodes, Unfortunately, I still have abdominal cramping, morning anxiety and little to no appetite. I am taking Klonopin (.25 2x a day) which helps somewhat but leaves me feeling sleepy.
Avatar m tn I take zoloft for my anxiety. I actually just was put back on it after being off for 2 years. I also take a xanax at night because my anxiety gets real bad then.
Avatar m tn I was on Zoloft for 8 years for anxiety and got off for 10 months for the birth of my daughter. I then went back on for anxiety and did fabulous for 9 more years. I started to get a little more anxiety and decided to increase the dosage, but it only made me more agitated. So, I've since tried Lexapro to no avail and Prozac was way too stimulating causing agitation again. It's been 4.5 months since I've weaned off Zoloft (been on Lexapro for 5 months, Prozac for 7 weeks).
Avatar m tn I take Prozac. Your side effects could be from the Prozac, or it could just be anxiety in general. Anxiety can do this to people, weird dreams, waking up in a panic etc. Or it could be the Prozac. I have weird dreams time to time, I have no idea if it is the Prozac, or just me having dreams. I haven't really looked into it. 7 days on Prozac will not relief you from any anxiety. it will take 6-8 weeks. and by the 4th week or so your doctor might have you increase to 20mg instead of 10mg.
Avatar f tn After seeing th psychiatrist he switched me to Prozac. I went from Prozac 10 mg to 15mg with no issues. When he increased my dose to 20 mg I began to experience frequent urge to urinated and burning in my pelvic area. My primary care checked me for UTI and yeast infection. I did have glucose in my urine and a yeast infection for which I was treated with Diflucan and Metronizal gel.I was treated for vaginosis. I am not sexually active.
1867019 tn?1353467540 I need everyone's opinions on Prozac and Zoloft. My doctor said said Prozac could give me seizures...scared the s*** out of me!! Please let me know if you have taken either of these?
Avatar f tn I called them and at first they said it was normal and I just had to stick with it. What started this whole thing was I apparently had an anxiety attack due to a severe allergy problem and they put me on Clonazapam & Prozac. I wasn't depressed I just needed to get control of my anxiety & allergies. I went to a specialist and am now on an allergy spray which is helping my breathing. So now I just feel like I have to get over the anxiety problem.
Avatar f tn Ive been suffering all my life with anxiety and depressIon . I was prescribe zolof but I had to stop because of the headaches. Im currently on prozac but feel the same way I dont think is working. My doctor says those are the only two meds safe to take during pregnancy. I feel hopeless n guilty. I havent been able to enjoy my pregnancy. feel so miserable!!!
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm a 15 year old girl who has been taking up to 100 mg of Zoloft for anxiety/panic for a month or so. Recently we decided to go off of it because I thought it was what was causing me to have unwanted thoughts. I was prescribed Prozac, which I had taken before (I wasn't very consistent with it though) and so I have been taking less of the Zoloft and more of the Prozac. Every four days, I take 25 less of the Zoloft and I am slowly going up to at least 10 mL of Prozac.
Avatar n tn m experiencing on Prozac will fade with time. My doctor switched me from Zoloft to Prozac. I have taken Zoloft in the past but this time it was not working for me so after a couple of months we agreed to try Prozac. This is my 12th day on Prozac and my anxiety is at an all time low. The first few days on Prozac I started to feel better (could have been placebo effect.). Now for the past week its starting to make me depressed because I feel like this is never going to get better.
20632981 tn?1503687567 My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?
