Prozac vs luvox

Common Questions and Answers about Prozac vs luvox

prozac

Avatar f tn I was hoping you might add "anti-depressant" to the treatment section. I'm currently taking Fluvoxamine (Luvox) so I'm using "prozac" as a stand in, but I think a generic option for anti-depressants, or SSRIs would be helpful.
Avatar f tn Has anyone on here been on Luvox? I asked my doc if I could be on it, I've done some research on it and it seems like it works great for OCD. She said it would take about 2 weeks to work. I have OCD and have a fears that I once molested a child....they feel so real and horrible. I'm on other meds as well for this including anxiety. I just wanted to know if anyone on here has been on it and if so how you're doing with it. Thanks.
Avatar f tn I forgot~I was diagnosed with OCD and tried Paxil, Prozac, Lexapro, Celexa, and Wellbutrin which were all unsuccessful. Luvox worked but I am ready to try and live life without it.
Avatar n tn At around the age of 11 I was put on Prozac and have been on it since at various dosages. I still had fairly pronounced symptoms for most of my adolescence. At about the age of 18 my symptoms started to become much worse and started including panic attacks and more sever bouts of depression. At that time I was also prescribed respirdal to take with the prozac.
713972 tn?1230052003 Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Luvox, Paxil, or Zoloft, to name a few.
Avatar f tn Also has anyone tried Luvox for OCD? I've been on Prozac and Zoloft and still mAnage to not be able to control scary thought. After I had my daughter they got real bad too.
286686 tn?1416012340 He is on 300mg of Anafranil since December and started Luvox at the end of December and doctor has been increasing the luvox, so he is now on 300mg of luvox as of two days ago. This is the strange part.....every time the doctor increased one of these meds, my son can feel a difference (thoughts are not that intrusive or severe), but this only lasts about 3-4 days and then he feels that he is back to where he started at the lower dose of 50mg.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I was wanting to get some input from some people who have tried prozac. Have you tried it, if so what was your experience with it, benefits, side effects, etc?
2010625 tn?1329372056 Does anyone else here have this? I was going to try a new medication for it called prozac and was wondering if anyone else here with pmdd has tried it, and what their experience has been.
Avatar f tn Hi. I have panic disorder. Took Celexa for 7 years and it pooped out. Pdoc prescribed Luvox. Have taken that for five months and it's just not doing the trick. Still have anxiety and breakthrough panic attacks. He has given me the choice of lexapro or Zoloft. Since Celexa and lexapro are so similar, I'm concerned that the lexapro won't work given that the Celexa stopped working.
Avatar n tn If you are taking one of the standard medications for ocd such as the SSRI anti-depressents (Prozac, Paxil, Luvox, Effexor) this could be the problem. Speak to your psychiatrist about and ask if that could be what the cause is.
Avatar m tn Has anyone ever been prescribed with Fluoxetine(Prozac) 80mg + Fluvoxamine(Luvox) 100mg daily for OCD?
3755490 tn?1349297255 The new doctor gave me this to start out with. ( Luvox CR 150mg ) to take at night. The next day had bad hot flashes felt faint and lightheaded and worn out. I AM NOT TAKING THIS STUFF AGAIN!!!. It is now the 2nd day after and I have had a hot flash again and fell very nervous and lightheaded. How long will this **** last and be out of my system???
Avatar f tn Your profile says you're from the US, and this drug isn't used all that much here. So if you don't get a lot of responses, that's why. It's used mostly in Europe, due partly to a quirk in its initial development. It just didn't apply for US approval for a long time, and didn't market it here very much when it was new.
Avatar m tn 3 years ago she began treatment at as outpatient. The Dr. prescribed Luvox (I think the initial dosage was 50; it was cut to 25 about 1 year ago) which helped her work through the things causing depression and she is well on her way to recovery (by her own admission and I concur). She wants to stop the medication safely, but her doctor is reluctant to allow her to stop. FYI, we live in Japan and Japanese doctors are assured payment by Health Insurers by prescribing medication.
Avatar n tn Hello, I recently met with a psychiatrist and I am thinking about medication. She recommended Prozac, and Luvox and some other medications. I told her that I wanted to read up on them. Does anyone have any advice?
Avatar f tn And let me add, not all ssris leave the system in the same period of time -- some leave very quickly, such as Paxil and Luvox. Some leave quickly. I'm not all that up on the new ones that have come out the last few years, but the only one I know of that lasts a long time in the body is Prozac, which takes about a month to completely leave the system -- it is thought that is why fewer people complain about stopping Prozac than the other ssris.
Avatar n tn t specifically approved for anxiety, neither was Prozac when it first came out, but it did help many people with anxiety. So has Celexa. Specific approvals are more for patentability than anything else -- to get a copycat drug patented and approved by FDA you have to show it treats something different than previous medications. So Prozac got approval for depression, but was always used for anxiety as well.
1063764 tn?1272821064 There is some evidence Luvox can increase the effect of melatonin, and some people with autoimmune disorders have been warned about taking it, but I don't know how much harm or what kind they're afraid of. One thing about melatonin that's often wrong is the dose -- .5mg or 1mg is a good dose. For this one, less is more. You'll often see 3mg or 5mg the recommended dose, but that's too high for most people. That would be only if you had a problem metabolizing it.
Avatar n tn Sounds to me like you are choosing meds for the wrong reasons. You wanted to try Pristiq because you saw it being Rx'ed a lot where you work? I'm SURE you can understand how that would not be a good reason. If you were taking an AD for anxiety (the Prozac), Pristiq would have actually not been the best choicem as it can be quite activating. I'm sure you're not having a psychotic break...sounds more like it is affecting your memory and increasing anxiety.
Avatar n tn About 5 months ago I was prescribed Prozac, it did nothing for me so I was prescribed Zoloft instead. It worked really well. When I was feeling great I decided to independently take myself off the drugs. The withdrawal was really nasty, but I got through it. Apparently, I still need the Zoloft because I am starting to feel the suicide thoughts come back. I tried taking my regular dose (150 mg) a couple of days ago. (after being off zoloft for probably one month).
Avatar n tn Said that it is not as addicting and will help me through the paxil withdrawl. ??? He said give it a month and then stop taking prozac and getting off prozac is much easier because it stays in your system longer. I am soo sick of taking pills. I went there for help and I left with more pills. Whatever..
Avatar f tn Due to insurance changes, my doc has changed me to Luvox CR. My usual dose of Luvox is 150 mg once a day. The Luvox CR comes in 100 mg capsules. Would it be okay to take 200 mg of Luvox CR on one day and 100 mg of Luvox CR the next, and alternate since I can't divide the capsules? Thank you.
Avatar f tn But this is all part of ocd. Standard anti-ocd medications (usually SSRI anti-depressents, Prozac through Luvox) can help on ocd and behavioral therapy is good as well. Talk therapy is good in general but for ocd targeted behavioral therapy is better. Those can help you get over that feeling but speak to a psychiatrist about the issue and they can find an exact diagnosis and treatment.
Avatar n tn Withdrawal symptoms are highest with Zoloft and Luvox. However, due to lower protein binding in blood, Luvox gets cleared from the body pretty fast compared to Lexapro and Zoloft, so withdrawal symptoms can abate faster. So Zoloft and Luvox are comparable in terms of effect and use, with Zoloft having a wider clinical application. However, both are necessary to treat anxiety, depression and OCD and the benefits of their treating these disorders outweigh their side effects.
