nail

Avatar n tn you could be lacking vitam E C and or B and that is what causes your nails to break quite easily. depending on how deep the split is you migth have to get it checked out beause it could hit a nerve, open and cause infection.
Avatar n tn Anyways, the other day i was talkin with my sister and somehow we noticed that the underside of my fingernails were quite purplish. i dont know if its got anything to do with the pills i take? could you help me?
Avatar f tn Has anyone had fingernails split down middle? What does 9,430,000 iu - 6.
Avatar m tn Instead of putting your intensity into your fingernails, which by the way is a juvenile habit that is easy to break, you should get out and exercise like a maniac. To complement your exercise, you will need to eat more. Enough proteins will increase hunger, so eat them eggs in the morning, have a hamburger at lunch, and enjoy a normal and relaxing home-cooked meal in the evening. Drink plenty of water and get lots and lots of exercise.
Avatar f tn Not sure where this question fits in - I have an 8 year old whose fingernails and toenails don't grow. I think I've had to cut them maybe three times his whole life. Everything else grows normally - his hair, his body (he's tall for his age)...Not sure if this is something to worry about. Thanks for any input.
1674823 tn?1307263620 I have been noted to have domed fingernails but not apparently 'clubbed' They have been like this as long as I can remember What might cause domed nails but not clubbed. ???
Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?.
Avatar f tn Anyone have terrible fingernails with their VDD? I ask because for the past few years my nails have been very blah, the minute they start to grow they just split and peel. Now, I have noticed being on the VD for the past few weeks/months my nails finally seem to be growing slowly and not splitting or peeling, yet anyhow.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar n tn Purple fingernails all the time mean Raynaud's? Mine turned purple a month ago, just after overexercising and since then they remained purple, is this normal? Also, the coloration doesn't seem to change with temperature, does it still mean it is Raynaud's?
Avatar m tn After I threw away the plaster with my fingers I immediately went to take a smoke break. While smoking with my dirty fingers I flicked the cigarette ash with my nails that I used to pick up the plaster. There were small traces of the blood from the plaster on my fingernails. At that time also I just bit my lip accidentally 2 hours before so it was still an open wound.
Avatar f tn ve recently (in the last year) become obsessed with picking at scabs on my scalp. I can easily spend hours in front of a mirror looking for little scabs to pick off or even small bits of dandruff to pick at. It has gotten to the point where my scalp burns when I wash my hair because there are usually numerous open wounds. I don't really find stress relief from doing this, it's more of a habit. At work, I find myself with a hand in my hair, searching for scabs to pick at.
Avatar f tn I have these white lines on my fingernails that run parallel to the cuticle. They have areas in the white line that are heavier and make the line look like a spot. They cover the nail in it's entirety. I have taken zinc for year now with no real change. I am concerned about taking too much zinc since it was removed from some dental products. My hypoyroidism is controlled with medication. I do not suffer trauma to my hands. I am 55 yes old and have had these for as long as I can remember.
Avatar n tn 1) When putting on the Extra Safe Durex condom, she uses her long fingernails just for a brief moment. When I notice it, I decided to put it on myself, with the same condom. The she gave me a brief bj. i dont think her teeth touch the condom. My concern is whether she punctured the condom with her fingernails or teeth. We had vaginal sex for about 5-10 mins until I ejaculate (on and off, not nonstop) inside the condom. The sex did get rough for about 2 minutes.
Avatar f tn It's not a good idea. You can easily irritate or scratch your cervix, causing infection and/or swelling. Even if you wash your hands and clip your fingernails, if you're not an obstetrician or a midwife it's really not recommended. Plus, it doesn't tell you anything useful. It doesn't matter whether you're 0cm or 3cm. If you're not in labor, nothing is happening immediately, and knowing more than that is likely to only increase your anxiety and agitation.
Avatar m tn If HIV fluid got under your fingernails from hand-genital contact, does the virus die immediately while underneath the fingernails? My understanding is that the virus is damaged/non infectious immediately when fluids are transferred onto the hands no matter if its under the fingernails or any other part of the hand. I think I already know the answer but I would appreciate a response. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Hi, please tell me what can have caused my fingernails to get purple/bluish after one day of running much more than I was used, on July 14th. Since then, my fingernails stayed purple/bluish. I have gone through EKG, echo, xray, CT scan, blood work and spirometry test, all came back normal. What other tests can I take?
Avatar f tn The patient whose blood I got on my was an 80 year old nursing home patient from a local nursing home, also probably very low to no risk but still unknown. I think the thing that bothers me is that I bite my fingernails so they are usually pretty short. Is there anyway that HIV can be transmitted around the fingernails or stay on the hands? And the other occasion...I transferred to the ICU of the same hospital. I was taking out an IV on 76 year old women.
Avatar n tn First of all: You're not mad! Now what I ate when I was pregnant wasn't paper - I had to drink orange juice after brushing my teeth. Couldn't stand the taste of oranges alone, but loved the combination. It is interesting how we crave for things and how stilling the craving only seems to be possible with that one thing. I think that I'd have looked into how others break cravings. Sugar and carbs as an example can only be broken by going through the withdrawal.
Avatar n tn Four days ago a friend of mine -- who has a problem with my sexual acts -- told me I should stop because I can get HIV if semen gets underneath my fingernails. He told me that underneath the fingernail is mucous membranes that will get infected. I cant find any information about this but it cant be true can it?!?? Short hand -- IF I get semen underneath my fingernails am i at risk for HIV?????
Avatar f tn ve had anxiety, and it worsened once my freshman year started. I get anxiety attacks very easily, and it hinders my grades and ability to work. I just had one because I couldn't get a couple problems in Advanced Algebra II right, and I have a test tomorrow. I shed a few tears, kept whispering "I'm not smart enough", rocked a bit, and that was the end of it. I had one during school too.
Avatar m tn The reason for my concern was that right before I met her I clipped my fingernails too deeply and caused some minor bleeding under my nail. With the extreme pressure applied towards the toy and the cut I was worried. Dr. Handsfield gave me a logical explanation as to why it's unlikely for me to contract hpv/hsv but I wanted to know what qualities the skin underneath the nail have for it to be a good barrier against infection even if there are minor cuts.
Avatar f tn Thanks Heiferly. I do have raynauds syndrome and am wondering if its from that. Just seems its one thing after another but you know all about that with your own health. Somedays I just feel like giving up.
Avatar m tn Do u think u may have cut/nick your self by a razor, your fingernails or masturbated and friction caused iritationto the skin. The penis skin is very sensitive and easily irritated. Maybe you scratched yourself in your sleep...or an ingrown hair hence why you see a hole.pee, sweat, semen can enter the hole causing swelling due to infection..use polysporin to aid this...it will go away....
Avatar f tn For the past 5-6 weeks I have had an infection (Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus) under my fingernails, treated with 1. a topical then 2 oral antibiotics. My Nails are discolored, lifting up and threatening to fall out. The dermatologist told me that unless I stop Taxotere they will fall out. My toenails are not infected but loose too. Question: is it reasonable to ask for a switch in chemo-meds for a condition that is not life threatening, but very much affecting my "quality of life".
