Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Avatar f tn I saw my pcp in February and was told my kidney levels were abnormal so have been following them and now have a referral to a nephrologist. At that appointment was also referred to ortho for severe hip- diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Also referred to dermatologist for sores/bumps on my legs and arms. He told me foliculitis and in my fingernails, which have ridges, yeast infection. I have always had itchy skin but now so itchy I’m scratching till I bruise and they are not small.
977832 tn?1248281938 I am an eighteen year old female, and have been wondering for some time whether or not I am at slight risk for a heart condition. My fingernails are mounded/crested, especially my thumbnails, and I've been told this is often a symptom for heart disease (however, I also chewed my nails quite a bit as a child, so this might have added to it). I am also frequently cold, particularly in my extremities (hands and feet), and wonder if I have poor circulation.
Avatar m tn Hello, It can be hives or eczma. The other possibilities are internal diseases like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, irritation and allergic reactions to chemicals, wool, soaps, cosmetics and certain foods can cause itchy skin. Avatar f tn They are the same color as nails, not very deep but definitely noticable. These ridges are especially noticable on the bed of my thumbs and also on the toenails of the big toes. Other fingernails/toenails don't seem to have ridges, maybe just a few small ridges on index finger nails.
Avatar n tn I too am worried and feel that it may be Kidney Disease or something wrong with the heart as for the past half year I have had "anxious" like symptoms with elevated heart rates, sweaty palms and dizziness but have been reassured there as well that there is absolutely nothing wrong with my heart and they put it down to anxiety.
Avatar n tn Hi, if a person has purple fingernails all the time, can that person have a thyroid disorder?
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms are definitely suggestive of kidney disease. You should get an ultrasound kidneys and kidney function tests done to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I would encourage both of you to talk with his endocrinologist about looking into possible changes that can bring his a1c levels well down below 7. That truly is his best protection not only against kidney disease, but against other complications. If sugar levels are maintained at near normal levels, damage cannot happen.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 year old cocker spaniel who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She originally got sick a few weeks ago with pacreatitis, and when she recovered her lab work showed the kidney problems. We have been giving her fluids every other night as well as the epakitin powder with her food. Her blood report was better this last time. However she seems pretty good, has a good appetite ect and I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this disease?

Avatar f tn Hi there, about a month and a half ago I started feeling like something was always under both my ribs and it has been persistently like this and it's really uncomfortable, I'm also always itchy at night and have been feeling really dizzy and lightheaded constantly. I've went to my doctors and they took my bloods and all that came up was that my potassium levels were slightly high.

387767 tn?1345872027 Be sure to discuss all recommended vaccines with your veterinarian. A cat with kidney disease or kidney failure should not be vaccinated at all. Long-term feeding of an all-dry-food diet is also suspected as a factor in Chronic Renal Failure. Cats' kidneys are highly efficient and adapted to life in the desert, where they would get most or all of their water from eating their prey.

Avatar m tn Obviously, he has severe anemia and no amount of iron will fix this kind. I have never heard of chemotherapy for kidney disease or kidney damage. I have kidney damage (kidney disease) due to an autoimmune disease. Kidney function is at 26% now, up from 20%. Autoimmune disease is in remission since I had all the mercury fillings removed from my teeth.
745313 tn?1323142298 I knew about the thinning hair, which I am experiencing to a much, MUCH worse degree than I expected (but hey, it's summer!! ) But I have never read anything about tx affecting your fingernails. It only makes sense, as they are both made of the same thing - but has anyone else had this problem? Mine are awful! They are like paper, thin, peeling, and constantly ripping, even though they are cut completely short.
