Avatar f tn I appear to have developed ridges on my fingernails, they run vertically. Is there a medical reason for these ridges or fine vertical lines on my nails?
6935888 tn?1409889396 I would like to about my health performance on various indicators therefore what all test I should undergo to know complete health status.
Avatar m tn Are there any indicators on a test that may be a good indication one might recover from the infection?
Avatar f tn At best TSH is an indicator, to be considered along with more important indicators such as symptoms, and also the levels of the biologically active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4. Free T3 is the most important test because scientific studies have shown that FT3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while TSH and free T4 did not correlate very well at all. Please have a look at this link and tell us if you have any of the symptoms listed for hypothyroidism. http://www.endocrineweb.
Avatar n tn Well out of the blue she reached up and grabbed my mouth by wrapping her fingers inside my mouth and digging her fingernails inside my mouth under my gums. When I pulled her hand out she was gripping so hard she tore the skin from my gums and the area underneath. She had such a grip that her fingernail ripped of when I pulled her hand out. I was told by my Dr. to have a HIV test done now and again in 6 months. I was wondering what the possibility of exposure was from this kind of wound.
745313 tn?1323142298 I just started treatment today and the doctor told me it was possible for you to see brittle nails as part of the TX process, but she said that keeping up my water intake and doing as much as I could to take "stress" off my liver would help keep those (hair and nails) side effects to a minimum. I currently have acrylics and plan on keeping them through TX -- I had nails that would "peel" once they reached a certain length before any of this, and hated them.....
Avatar n tn GGT is specific to alcohol intake as the liver metabolizes alcohol. If you drink...even occasional binge drinking, then try to stop. You other liver enzymes are just slighlty over normal. Some medications and diseases (hepatitis) can alter liver function. Tylenol and cholesterol lowering drugs are some common causes of decreased liver function. The good news is that the liver is the only regenerable organ in the body and if we treat it well, it can bounce back. Well wishes to you!
Avatar n tn My understanding is the same as yours...that Raynaud's comes and goes and chronically purple nails usually suggests a circulatory problem or a heart problem. Since you have been checked out by a cardiologist, you might try a rheumatologist. Sometimes people with autoimmune disorders develop circulatory or connective tissue disorders. Also, ask your doctor what specialist you can go see about possible circulatory issues.
Avatar n tn Hi doctor, I apologise for posting in this forum, the gastroenterology forum does not have a posting facility currently. I have a concern that is causing anxiety regarding cirrhosis symptoms and I hope you can help. I have on my big toenails an opaque area form the cuticle extending about 2/3 to the end. This looks like the phenomena of Terrys's nails to me. On my fingernails I have discoloured arcs behind every free end but the bed looks pink.
Avatar f tn I don't think my Dr has checked me for other vitamin def. which was kinda what I was wondering myself with a few vitamins. I go back the 26th of Oct. and I'm thinking of asking him to check other Vitamins. If my D is as low as it is, I'm sure I have others low too :( In my opinion it's almost useless to fix one problem without fixing others? But, wasn't sure if D would cause a fingernail problem or not.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Hey there, girl.....I don't know. It sounds terrible. When I was getting chemo, I had an eruption of psoriasis and I lost my toenails and they aren't coming back....chemo ended 5 years ago. I hurt my toes all the time; but I know it would be much worse if it was my finger nails. I wish I could offer some help. Maybe someone will come along and know something helpful. Have you spoken to your doc or your chemo team about this? That's a good place to start.
Avatar f tn The doctor says my thyroid hormone levels fluctuates as do my symptoms. My fingernails are the worst and I am so very tired and weak. They are very soft and thin with ridges. I thought the synthyroid was supposed to help with these issues. Am I wrong and is something else going wrong This discussion is related to <a href='/posts/show/263637'>Fingernails indicative of thyroid problems?</a>.
Avatar n tn Liver problems like terin400 mentioned, smoking (which I doubt that you smoke), some medications as well as an unhealthy diet lacking in Vitamin A, B, zinc, protein, calcium and iron. You may benefit from a multivitamin supplement suitable for your age group. But make sure that you eat a healthy and balanced diet consisting of meat, milk, cheese, yogurt, fresh fruit, vegetables and nuts. Brazil nuts contain zinc Cut out all the junk foods, fizzy drinks, sweets, cakes, biscuits, chocolate.
Avatar f tn Vegetables are very important! Especially dark green leafy vegetables and broccoli. If you're not eating your vegetables, you likely have a nutritional deficiency. It's good you're addressing it now, though, because as you age, this becomes more and more important. You're about to enter puberty, so these vegetables are even more important when you start menstruating.
Avatar m tn Second, even in such situations, there are no data to suggest that that indirect transmission such as on fingernails occur. I would not worry about it. 3.Should I get worry about Hiv with an abnormal IgG2/igG4 ? No, these are indirect and non-specific laboratory tests. I would not worry. The only acceptable way to diagnose HIV is with HIV tests. Worrying about so-called indirect "indicators" is really not in your best interest. I hope these comments help.
Avatar f tn Brittle nails can also peel, I believe there was a question below in regards to this. As far as I know, nutritional deficiencies rather show as uneven surfaces of the nail bed.
429700 tn?1308007823 That is very interesting that your MS started in childhood. What did you notice as a child? I remember as a child having a feeling a fatigue that wasn't normal. Shel, it's good to hear from you, too!
Avatar m tn Your partners are low risk for HIV and you have done a good job of practicing safe sex. There is no risk of HIV from digital penetration and as far as oral sex, in either direction is concerned, the quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is no risk at all from oral sex.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm trying to find out the cause of this. One and a half month ago, I overexercised (went running a lot more than I was used to) and when I finished, my fingernails were purple/blue. Since then, they have remained purple. A week after that I started developing many other symptoms which I'm quite sure have to do something with that. I went through several tests including EKG, echocardiogram, xray, spirometry, CT scan and blood work. All came back normal.
