Common Questions and Answers about Blood cholesterol level chart

blood

Avatar f tn The normal range for calcium is 8.5-10.2. You are well within that level. Our blood levels fluctuate depending on activity, diet, hormonal fluctuations.... The levels do not remain static at all times. If you continue to notice a trend going forward of the level creeping up, discuss your concerns with your doctor and ask if there is any measures that should be taken to prevent the level from exceeding the normal parameters. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I take cholesterol medication and need to have blood work done every six months to check for proper liver function. My cholesterol (and liver) are doing great and kidney function came out fine too when my last tests were done on 12/05/2013. She also did a urinalysis in Jun 2013 which came out fine. The only thing I saw (doctor did not think it was a problem) was my blood calcium had crept up from 9.7 in December of 2012 to 9.9 in December of 2013.
Avatar m tn I eat very little oil, way below what is recommended on the food chart. So far my blood work looks great, but as I age who knows how much the cholesterol will go up. Take care, and I hope you can get those triglyercides down.
Avatar f tn Consequently, the cholesterol molecules (which can’t be dissolved in the blood) will accumulate on the walls of blood vessels. The continuous accumulation of the cholesterol on blood walls will lead to atherosclerosis and plaque formation. As you can see, the higher the level of LDL, the faster will be the process of atherosclerosis. However, some people might have high readings of both LDL and HDL, so the process would not happen quickly. This is the role of HDL/LDL ratio.
Avatar m tn The data are inconclusive and I have never heard of anyone having an increased level of cholesterol due to blood pressure meds. Your LDL is very high and HDL is low, I would considers some lifestyle changes that include diet and exercise as well as a statin to help get these numbers down because high cholesterol and high BP are two modifiable risk factors and both will be benefited by diet and exercise.
Avatar f tn This tracker will be very beneficial for those users who have dietary restrictions due to medical conditions such as diabetes and high cholesterol, and will also be useful for those who are simply trying to watch what they eat. In addition to providing a calorie counter, the Food Diary will also allow users to track their intake of carbohydrates, fats, protein, sugar, vitamins, minerals, and supplements.
907968 tn?1292622204 Mayo Clinic, 12-10-2010 "A high blood cholesterol level increases your risk of coronary artery disease. Lower cholesterol is usually better, but in rare cases, having a low level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol or a low total cholesterol level could increase your risk of some health problems. Doctors are still trying to find out more about the connection between low cholesterol and health risks".
Avatar n tn On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
214065 tn?1251288877 Total Cholesterol: A high cholesterol in the blood is a major risk factor for heart and blood vessel disease. Cholesterol in itself is not all bad, in fact, our bodies need a certain amount of this substance to function properly. However, when the level gets too high, vascular disease can result. A total cholesterol of less than 200, and an LDL Cholesterol of 100 or less is considered optimal by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.
Avatar m tn 2 High risk The 1987 report of National Cholesterol Education Program, Adult Treatment Panels suggests the total blood cholesterol level should be: 240 mg/dL high cholesterol.[71] The American Heart Association provides a similar set of guidelines for total (fasting) blood cholesterol levels and risk for heart disease:[72] The information can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholesterol It is a very complex subject and change can't always be achieved by diet alone.
976897 tn?1379167602 Low total cholesterol is really not a problem, it is the HDL level that should be high...see this link - http://www.nymedicaldoctor.com/Cardiovascular/cholesterol Cholesterol levels are determined by diet and genetics...solve one problem at a time. once the thyroid levels are appropriate and stabilized then redo a fasting lipid profile.
Avatar n tn Especially important are managing your cholesterol, blood pressure, and diet. In your case this will likely include medication. For many of us, diet changes alone will not be enough to lower our cholesterol to healthy levels. I am certainly one of those and have successfully reduced my LDL cholesterol with statin drugs. I hope you regard the information you have received from your doctors as good news, because doing the right things now will prevent problems later .
Avatar m tn At the end of the three weeks, the group with no cheese found their cholesterol the same level. The group who had cheese found their cholesterol had lowered. Whatever the dairy fat contains, it seems to prevent saturated fats in other foods, from the same meal, being absorbed. I'm not sure if the Swiss eat lots of cheese?
Avatar m tn My three years old daughter has very high cholesterol level (Cholesterol total 458.00 mg/dl), she never had any health problems, she eats well, she is very active, and all other blood tests are in the normal values. Two doctors gave me two different advices, and none of them have any explication for this "abnormality". I've redone the blood tests and got the same results.
367252 tn?1204397591 Thanks--LDL is 127 which is high also but I don't know if that is counter-balanced by the way-high HDL and I can't find anything that addresses this type of situation. Those cholesterol level risk calculator websites won't even let me enter an HDL level which is over 100...arghh! I've puzzled 'til my my puzzler is sore, as the Grinch (per Dr. Suess) would say..
Avatar f tn I recently had blood work done, these are the results for my cholesterol I do not understand them and the effect of each level: I am 53, female and very overweight, I have mild/ moderate aortic valve stenosis and other health issues, do these levels mean I am diabetic? do they effect my heart?

Another type is abetalipoproteinemia, which is a genetic disorder characterized by a low total cholesterol level and low triglyceride level. Each of these disorders is rare.

Avatar m tn His fasting blood sugar is in the range that the doctor should have diagnosed your friend with diabetes mellitus. You did not give the level of LDL (lousy cholesterol) and triglycerides, but for the total cholesterol here in the United States, 240 and above is considered high. Therefore, your friend's level is high.
